One of two inmates who escaped from the Marsh Creek Detention Facility in Contra Costa County last weekend was arrested Thursday at a Vallejo hotel, according to the county Sheriff’s Office.

Gerardo Ramirez-Vera, 33, of Richmond, was found at the hotel around 9:15 a.m. Thursday and was taken to county jail in Martinez after Ramirez-Vera and Jorge Garcia-Escamillia, 28, of Pittsburg were reported missing from the minimum-security facility in Clayton last Sunday morning, sheriff’s officials said.

Ramirez-Vera was convicted of weapon, burglary and vandalism charges and was due to be released from the county-run facility in early January 2023, while Garcia-Escamillia was being held on charges of vehicle theft, possession of a stolen vehicle, possession of burglary tools and drug possession, and had court dates still pending, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

Both men now face felony charges of escape from a county detention facility and could receive a state prison sentence. The Marsh Creek Detention Facility houses sentenced inmates and those facing lower-level charges who would likely receive a sentence to be served locally rather than in a state prison, sheriff’s officials said.

Some people don’t get nuances. Too bad. What would we need more prisons for if people weren’t put away..

These 2 will now see first hand what the bigger, harder prisons look like.

Ramirez-Vera only had four more months to serve and he’d be a free man. Now he’ll probably have to serve three more years. Wow!

As long as THE PARTY is in power, you won’t see much if any prison construction in this state. Their solution is to coddle the criminal by
way of lesser or even no charges filed, or early release due to crowding. As
soon as a judge tells the state that there is overcrowding, the prudent action would be to build in more beds. Not here. Put them on the streets instead.
More crime everywhere+but not as many arrests=lower crime rate on paper.
It’s called cooking the books.

Doh September 9, 2022 - 5:35 PM - 5:35 PM

Will you chip in for the additional prisons?

Janus September 9, 2022 - 8:21 PM - 8:21 PM

Well Doh

How about we just don’t close Deuel Vocational Institution (DVI) or the California Correctional Center in Susanville, or the minimum security portions of the California Correctional Institution in Tehachapi or the California Training Facility in Soledad?

How about that Doh?

Dumb & Dumber. One guy was on his way out, but now he’s going to be in for even longer. Good they caught one of them, but when will they catch the other guy?
