QUESTION: Did you conserve energy these past few days during the heat wave, or did you keep your air-conditioning below the requested 78-degrees?

Talk about it….

Every bit I could.

I may have to get out of bed one of these days.

Ricardoh September 9, 2022 - 12:10 PM - 12:10 PM

We never have our air below 78 so it made no difference..Go outside for a few minutes and when you come back in 78 feels good.

Doh September 9, 2022 - 12:11 PM - 12:11 PM

I try but when my living room is over I turn 80 the AC on.

Dr. Jellyfinger September 12, 2022 - 8:51 PM - 8:51 PM

Doh, have you ever been tested for Dyslexia?
I’m serious.

TraumaRx September 9, 2022 - 12:18 PM - 12:18 PM

I always listen to the experts and do my part. Set thermostat to 79 and wore a mask while out in public.

Badge1104 September 9, 2022 - 12:25 PM - 12:25 PM

We tried it first. But then we gave in, and even became angry, as we were suffering and sacrificing because of the policies of crazies running the state. Let all the green-nazis sit in the sweltering heat, without their appliances and computers since they’re all for this.
We tried, but why do we suffer for the other idiots will to be done. It’s actually emboldend us.

Badge1104 September 9, 2022 - 12:58 PM - 12:58 PM

P.S. I know it sounds harsh what I said above but you have to understand that we keep bending and bending to serve the supposedly world class country/ state as the governor keeps telling us we are.
But the way we see it , our lawn is dead, our landscaping brown, we don’t drive on the spare the air days; we don’t have barbecues or enjoy a winter fire. We take short showers, don’t wash the car. We stay at home during lockdowns for covid and we’re finally getting fed up because of poor planning and cow towing to The crazies this state does not have enough electricity and enough water. But it does have an abundance of homeless, and crazy nuts and criminals. And the governor keeps claiming how we’re a state that rivals economic powers like France, Germany, England etc. Hard to believe especially with our 47th in the nation school system. The way we see it we’re becoming more like a third world country with the leadership running the state now.

TTD September 9, 2022 - 1:41 PM - 1:41 PM

@badge- very well said!!!! I agree 100%!

Tsa September 9, 2022 - 2:23 PM - 2:23 PM

No need to apologize. You live in a state run by morons who are voted in by morons…

Roz September 9, 2022 - 3:31 PM - 3:31 PM

@Badge1104~
No, You are not Harsh.
Totally understand where you are coming from.
Sick and tired of sacrifices, with no rewards for the good deeds.
Still, we try, but there is a point of, it isn’t worth the discomfort.

Dawg September 9, 2022 - 12:36 PM - 12:36 PM

I don’t go out of my way to conserve, but I don’t use more, and I don’t use less. I only use what is necessary, and I do not have A/C. My electric bill last month was $50.00.

MoJo September 9, 2022 - 12:39 PM - 12:39 PM

Cannot do 78. AC was set at 75 and pretty much ran non stop for 10 days. PG&E will be able to build a new power plant when I pay my next bill. At least we didn’t have any outages in our neighborhood so that’s something positive. One more day to go and maybe we can get back to semi-normal weather again so we can get ready for Fire and Smoke season!

Exit 12A September 9, 2022 - 2:38 PM - 2:38 PM

.
Non-stop for 10 days?
.
Your home must have crappy insulation and windows. Do you live in a shipping container?

James September 9, 2022 - 4:17 PM - 4:17 PM

No 12A ,you must live in apartments, this is what happens when you live in a real house.

James September 9, 2022 - 5:57 PM - 5:57 PM

PS
Exit 12A
When you live in a human warehouse,it does stay warmer, but the smell……oh the smell.

LocalAntiLib September 9, 2022 - 12:42 PM - 12:42 PM

Nope, not this one or any before this or any in the future.
We do what we want and when we want.

Chris September 9, 2022 - 1:02 PM - 1:02 PM

No, 74 degrees and we must all water the trees.

Captain Bebops September 9, 2022 - 1:12 PM - 1:12 PM

I made sure the living room where I hang out in the evenings was tolerable by cooling it down with AC before the 4 PM rate hike kicks in. I also opened the patio door overnight to let the cooler air to come in sometimes as low as 70 degrees. Usually that would be sufficient to make the rest to the day tolerable. But the last few days were highly unusual.

Concordejet September 9, 2022 - 1:14 PM - 1:14 PM

Absolutely because it is my duty to conserve electricity in order to prevent power outage I do not want people to suffer from power outage it worked well conserving electricity I turn the brightness down on the television and on the light I have ceiling fans it helps to I did turn on the air conditioning before 4:00 p.m. only for 2 hours a day I live on a fourth floor of my unit and I do have the window covered still able to stay cool no problem

Concordejet September 9, 2022 - 1:15 PM - 1:15 PM

Ooops sorry it,first floor,not,fourth floor

Justifiable languor September 9, 2022 - 1:16 PM - 1:16 PM

Yes, we conserved but not like most. AC isn’t an option, so we kept the fans on while in the room. Cut way back on toast. Tepid showers. After the first stiffled gasps got used to it. Opened the house up after 9PM it was that HOT outside. Kept cooking to a minimum.

Chicken Little September 9, 2022 - 1:26 PM - 1:26 PM

I went about my life as I usually do. To paraphrase Badge1104, there’s no incentive for our “leaders” to improve the situation as long as we plebeians keep giving up OUR comfort, convenience, and safety to somehow make it work .I guarantee you Newsom wasn’t sweating this week.

chuckie the troll September 9, 2022 - 1:30 PM - 1:30 PM

A/C set at 75 degrees. I’m not about to get in-between the wife and the thermostat. Fortunately, the TVA does a better job than Gavin and the Green Goblins. Oh, and tonight we have a neighbor over and will BBQ some Rib Eyes.

Roz September 9, 2022 - 3:35 PM - 3:35 PM

We are having Ribeye too 🙂

Man in Brown September 9, 2022 - 1:36 PM - 1:36 PM

A/C set at 72. Solar panels with a battery, no PG&E. Turn off A/C at 7:30 pm, then use ceiling fans. Open the windows around midnight, close them up again in the morning. No problem.

Ardath September 9, 2022 - 4:10 PM - 4:10 PM

I like your process, but when do you sleep?

Old Timer September 9, 2022 - 1:52 PM - 1:52 PM

I tried but when the city runs water down the gutter from watering I stopped trying.Everywhere you go you see green so I think a lot of people gave up.And 77 is the highest I’m going to put my air conditioner. When we run out of water and electricity I will pack the Rv and leave this sorry ass state. And you ones that are left can party with our no good governor and celebrate what he has done.

Reasonable September 9, 2022 - 5:17 PM - 5:17 PM

Agree. Doesn’t seem so serious for the future when they keep approving all the new construction for appts. and houses.

ADC September 9, 2022 - 2:05 PM - 2:05 PM

78 is plenty cool and glad more abided the recommendation than not. No rolling blackouts. Yay!

Dr. Jellyfinger September 9, 2022 - 3:33 PM - 3:33 PM

I set the AC in my car to 78°
Cool enough for me 👍

Randy September 9, 2022 - 4:02 PM - 4:02 PM

…. yup I acquiesced

Dorothy September 9, 2022 - 5:26 PM - 5:26 PM

ATT internet went out for nearly 3 days so I guess I saved some. My A/C went out for a day so I saved some then also. So I guess I’m reluctantly saving energy.

Original G September 9, 2022 - 5:30 PM - 5:30 PM

Set to 78, on 105 plus days with bad air quality AC did run quite a bit.

Early this morning opened windows and had two fans exhausting. Normal is run fans over night to cool house off.
Building materials absorb and give up heat at a given rate.
AC usually doesn’t come on with that routine.

Kentucky Derby September 9, 2022 - 6:31 PM - 6:31 PM

Yes, we cut back. It would be nice if everyone conserved, but selfish people couldn’t care less.

Rteess September 9, 2022 - 8:44 PM - 8:44 PM

Don’t understand why we are continuing to build new homes when we don’t have enough water for the existing residences

chuckie the troll September 10, 2022 - 7:41 AM - 7:41 AM

To understand, you will need to understand Liberals. They like illegal aliens, as long as you don’t bus them to their city/state. They like mask-mandates, as long as they don’t have to comply. They like “virtual/distance learning” in public schools, as long as their kids can attend private school and go to sports camp in-person. They hate insider trading, except when they do it.

And finally, the rulers of Kleptofornica will always blame someone else, and tax you more, when their decisions result in chaos and calamity.

El D September 9, 2022 - 9:08 PM - 9:08 PM

I followed the official advice for the flex alerts. We cooled the house before the flex alert, then raised the temp to 78 when the flex alert started. We didn’t run the dishwasher or washer/dryer during the flex alert hours.

We’re all in this together. It wouldn’t be a big deal for me if we got hit by a rotating outage, but there are elderly and disabled people for whom it would be very difficult. If a minor inconvenience on my part – keeping the house a little warmer – can make a difference, I’m willing to do it.

The Mamba September 10, 2022 - 8:16 AM - 8:16 AM

Pegged it at 80 every day. Not out of anything noble, just trying to keep from paying all my paycheck to the criminal organization known as PG&E.

BOOYAH! September 10, 2022 - 8:59 AM - 8:59 AM

Put a sprinkler on my roof to keep my attic rats cool.

e.bunners September 10, 2022 - 10:03 AM - 10:03 AM

I refuse to turn my A/C down JUST so people can charge their Teslas. What’s going to happen to the “grid” when ALL of California has electric cars?
I see more electric cars plugged into charging stations.
Perhaps have those folks BOT charge their cars during heatwaves…..

Angrey American September 10, 2022 - 3:20 PM - 3:20 PM

I want to be sarcastic here and say I turned the AC to 74 and the hot tub to 104 but I know I live with at least 70% good soles in Ca so I did my best. I am going to point out here that when they stop building houses and apartments for the not officially growing population I will start taking them seriously about power and water shortages. By the way Gavin…..bad optics wearing a fleece while telling everyone to shut off their AC. simply stupid.
