The City of Concord has launched a $7 million grant program for the purpose of partnering with local nonprofit organizations to help the community recover from the COVID-19 pandemic.

The grant application period opened on Sept. 30 and will run through Oct. 28 at 5 p.m.

The grants will be awarded in amounts between $50,000 and $2 million, following an application review and interview process. The City Council is expected to award the grants on Dec. 6, 2022.

Eligible organizations include those that are tax-exempt nonprofits, and provide projects or programs benefiting Concord residents.

The $7 million comes from the total $27 million of one-time federal funding that the City of Concord received from the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA). ARPA provides federal stimulus funds intended to address the ongoing economic recovery following substantial financial losses suffered during the pandemic.

At its Sept. 27 meeting, the Concord City Council received a report from the ad hoc committee responsible for making recommendations about how to allocate the remaining $19 million of Concord’s funding; $8 million was previously spent on pandemic recovery efforts.

In addition to the nonprofit grant program, Council approved the following allocations:

  • $7 million: City Projects, Public Safety and Special Events
  • $3 million: Support for the Unhoused
  • $2 million: Support for Small Businesses (grant application period to open in November)

Eligibility information and the grant application are now available on City’s ARPA web page: www.cityofconcord.org/ARPA

The amount of wasted spending in Covid bills is astronomical. Can the city send the money back? Seems like that would be the best use.

I’ll take up to $1million and it’ll benefit my family and me by letting us move out of California for our sanity. My house will then be available for purchase and help solve the housing crunch locally. Easy peasy, problem solved!!!

If anyone was wondering why inflation is happening, this story might provide a clue. $27 million dumped on a small town of 125 thousand with orders to spend it on things that residents did not know they needed and who have to ask for ideas on how to get rid of the money. This is happening all over the US and helps explain why we have 8.5% annual inflation even while we are starting to slip into a serious recession.

Will be interesting to see how the 3 million for homelessness is spent.

Some tough love is needed for the outdoor campers who spend their money on drugs and alcohol. A one way ticket out of town would be a good use of the funds.

The seriously mentally ill require custodial care and therapy. Much more expensive and largely the responsibility of the county and state. Hopefully Concord can help coordinate these services.

I certainly hope this will go to the people that were forced out of work from the “shelter in place” (2020) although it does not seem enough for the damage done. Kind of a double edged sword as these people should be compensated but dumping money into the economy only furthers inflation “don’t know the answer to this”

$3 million to pay people to talk to homeless crazies that have no plan to ever change the way they live and they don’t get any of that mpney.
They are playing with words..
But if they didnt visibly throw away $3 million people would say they are doing nothing about the “unhoused”
Send them all back to their parents that threw them out for good reason.

So, wait…

my money which was taken from me is now being given to nonprofits not of my choice and I don’t get to take the deduction???

do I have that correct?

…without the grease…

Well, Concord is in the black again? Good, they won’t be needing that “temporary” half cent sales tax any longer. And maybe they can slop some top-goop on more of our streets, or cut us some slack on the ever-increasing sewer tax. What’s that you say….😸?

No Excuses October 1, 2022 - 1:36 AM - 1:36 AM

Oh, I see. It’s GRANT money, from the “Just Print Some More” funds. The money that we don’t actually have in the Federal cookie jar, but.. having and spending have little relationship to the Bureaucrats that lied to us to get their jobs…. OK 😸 Now we see why they want to line up another 75,000 tax collectors, and why they are stealing our inheritances.

Not a single word about the condition of the streets in Concord. Unbelievable.
I hope this falls under the “city projects category”.

It is a big money grab for politicians and government officials. Fauci made five million dollars during the Covid.
