If you take a look around, the homeless population has obviously skyrocketed in Contra Costa County compared to previous years.

QUESTION: What do you think is the number one contributing factor to homelessness?

I think it’s pretty well known that cities are shipping their homeless out to the suburbs because the smaller cities out here are less prepared to deal with it and organize against it. If you try to bring it up in City Hall, their eyes roll back into their heads and they instinctively start chanting the, “Being homeless is not a crime” mantra. Of course it’s not, but a lot of the behaviors and actions drug addicts do are.

Local government and the criminal justice system or lack there of.

We don’t have the money for a homeless shelter or provisions in our classrooms but we do for new fancy cameras to watch everyone
