This is a picture of Safeway in the Clayton Valley Shopping Center on Ygnacio Valley Rd. in Concord.

It was taken in the late 1950s or early 1960s.

Most of you might remember Safeway when it occupied the old Outdoor Supply Hardware building in the late 70s, 80s and early 90s.

This picture is of the Safeway BEFORE it moved to the old OSH building. This Safeway was in the same building as Concord Kung Fu and Anytime Fitness, next to Rose Liquors. In the background you can see the land where CVS and Grocery Outlet currently stand.

Who remembers this Safeway?

Here’s a photo of how it looks now.

Thanks to Romley for the picture.

There was a ditch that ran through the field about where the parking lot for OSH is now. Used to play hide a seek in it while mom shopped

and it often filled with water in that ditch and we used to collect tadpoles 🙂

I remember that old Safeway. We moved here in 1968 and it was where i did my grocery shopping with my then 5-year old son.

I moved here in the 80’s and I think there was a Lucky’s grocery store where CVS stands.

@Claytoncowgirl – Yep, it was Lucky. Also – Long’s Drugs was where Grocery Outlet is located.

At one time, there were four Lucky Stores along Clayton Road. There was the one in Clayton Valley, and the one at the corner of Clayton and Treat. There was an Alpha Beta that was bought by Lucky’s where TJMaxx is now. I don’t remember the location of the 4th store, but I think it was on the same side of the road as the Alpha Beta one.
