Criminals In California State Prisons Can Now Make Calls Free Of Charge

Criminals in California state prisons can call their friends and families free of charge, thanks to the passage of the Keep Families Connected Act.

Incarcerated people can make unlimited, free 15-minute international or domestic phone calls from institution wall phones and tablets, announced the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation.

People receiving calls will still need to have a ConnectNetwork Advance Pay account, and will still receive a notification before accepting the call that it comes from an incarcerated person. All calls will also be recorded.

“CDCR is fully committed to maintaining positive bonds between incarcerated people and their loved ones,” said CDCR Secretary Jeff Macomber. “Making audio calls free removes the financial barriers and burdens to the population and their support system, we hope this will have a positive impact on the rehabilitative process.”

True. However what Newsom really wants is to get his hands on that piece of real estate.
And don’t think that plan isn’t already in the works.

Senator Josh Becker of the San Mateo area is behind this. His website says he is “a public policy innovator working at the nexus of community activism, technology and social justice.” I guess free phone calls for those who rob, burglarize and kill is a nexus.

Looks like your comment is totally false. The information provided indicates that once again taxpayers get to foot the bill for garbage people.

Once King Gavin becomes president, he will stop all recording of inmate calls due to “A Fairness & Equity” issue.

Unlimited free international calls ? How much is this going to cost the taxpayer ?

Absolute BS. How about reducing our tax rates if you have so much money to WASTE. I cannot wait to leave this cesspool of a state. Corruptifornia continues its downward spiral.

Your Tax dollars at work! I think we forget that you go to jail for small time stuff and prison for far worse and you are being punished for your sins. Something like this should be a “go fund me” not a taxpayer funded program.

Right? They act like everything is an inalienable right. And it is not.

They also get free medical and dental care 24/7! They have all kinds of Rights and privileges ! How many of us have that?

They should get 3 meals a day, and no special diets-everyone eats the same slop.

They want gym equipment, pound big rocks into small rocks.

Cardio? dig a hole and when it is done, fill it in.

Books? They can have the old ones from the classrooms when THOSE books are replaced.

Rights? They should have none – they belong to the state until their time is up. These are miseries, rapiers, pedophiles and more, and those bottom feeding scum of the earth have more rights than the taxpayers. Something ain’t right about that.

Oh, please January 2, 2023 - 5:43 PM - 5:43 PM

Prisoners need to go back to chain gangs. Work for their room and board.

The unlimited thing sounds strange but telephone calls do not bother me as much as not serving the proper amount of time for the crime. You would think they would be limited to a few calls a week. Some guy or girl can call home to Mexico everyday. That’s California today.

These phone calls will cost us 100x what they should as they will continue to use the rip-off phone service “provider” that the jails and prisons use. The only difference is taxpayers will be paying the 3.00 a minute for local calls and probably 20.00 a minute for international calls, not the criminals friends and families. This is a grift, a payout, a payoff, a literal kickback. Following the money would mean finding the hidden connection between the government and the phone service “provider”. There is no reason there needs to be a middleman that gets to bilk the taxpayers. This is political graft and corruption 100%

Another of many many examples of liberal California government taking care of and supporting those that they truly care about.

Sounds like an admission by corrections they’re incapable of stemming smuggling in of cell phones.
