Forbes Releases List Of “Best Places To Live In California” – No Cities In Contra Costa Made The List, But There Are A Few Odd Picks

Forbes released their annual list of Best Places to Live in California.

No cities in Contra Costa County made the list, but one city in particular might surprise you (actually, all cities might surprise you).

Here’s the list:

  1. Sacramento
  2. San Diego
  3. San Francisco
  4. Los Angeles
  5. San Jose
  6. Vallejo
  7. Oxnard
  8. Modesto
  9. Fresno
  10. Bakersfield

Forbes said they “analyzed cities by pulling recent data on key lifestyle factors such as the area’s median home price, personal income per capita, and the unemployment and crime rate.”

QUESTION: If you could make a top ten list, what three cities would be your top choice?

This must be a feeble attempt at humor.

Cambria
Ferndale

My picks would be anywhere in the Gold Country. My top three are Murphys, Twain-Harte, and Jamestown, in that order. Small, low crime, and nice folks.

No disrespect, but Twain Harte and Jamestown have much more of an underbelly than you might think. You won’t see it until you’ve lived there for a while. Having experienced it first hand, I’d suggest you look elsewhere.

Tuolumne County in general is an interesting area of our State. I grew up there and have fond memories. I moved to the Bay Area for more diversity.

I have lived in Modesto since 2007. It is a nice city with enough cultural life to enjoy and thanks to the Gallo Center and the State theater we have access to a lot of excellent shows. We are close to the beautiful places like Yosemite, Lake Tahoe, San Francisco, Monterey etc.

Fresno
Vallejo
Modesto
LA
San Jose

We sure this is the most crime infested/Homicide cities to live in.

I can’t believe they left out Oakland and Richmond. I hear Antioch is nice, too.

Wrong criteria, should include warning on cities where quality of life has suffered due to liberal Woke Stupidity. Other problem is crime, many victims of crime no longer bother to report it because they know nothing will come of making a report, because CA has gone soft on criminals.
Would not consider living in any cites on list.

Thought it was the list of worst cities to live in. Hope to never set foot in any of them ever again.

Badge1104 February 1, 2023 - 3:23 PM - 3:23 PM

Except for San Diego and Oxnard, I think this list is of cities NOT to live in!
I used to respect Forbes Magazine. But they lost it now. Come on; Modesto and Vallejo good places to live? Stupid

I am surprised that Stockton wasn’t near the top of that list. What were they smoking?

Anyone who has ever spent any time in California knows seven out of ten on that list are complete stinkers. They must be trolling for illegals, and that’s just wrong.

Forbes must be on dope!

Oh, please February 1, 2023 - 8:46 PM - 8:46 PM

Lol. Not that ANY cities on CC should make the list, but those are laughable! SD is cool, but terribly crowded and has a lot of gross parts.

Commonsensenor February 1, 2023 - 8:56 PM - 8:56 PM

This is nothing more than “If you tell the lie long enough, people will start to believe it”. The best places in California will never be listed, and thank God for that.

Ms. Manners February 1, 2023 - 11:21 PM - 11:21 PM

Literally all of the top 10 listed here are actually the worst of California. This list is absolute garbage.

Some of those places I would not even stop in, maybe for a red light, but would keep one foot on the gas.

Old-school guy February 2, 2023 - 8:05 AM - 8:05 AM

I remember when Money magazine named Clayton as one of the top 50 places to live in the USA. I think not once, but twice. It did wonders for my property value.

caskydiver February 2, 2023 - 9:37 AM - 9:37 AM

Whaaat??? While I am not a fan of living in California at all anymore, if I had to pick some more desireable places, I’d pick:

Santa Barbara/Montecito
Auburn
San Diego
Mendocino
San Luis Obispo
