The following update is from the Walnut Creek Police Department:
Student Arrested for Attempted Murder and Mayhem against another student at Northgate High School
Walnut Creek Police are investigating a violent assault on a student at Northgate High School that took place this afternoon, April 25, 2023. Police received a call from the school around 1:00 p.m. reporting a female student was stabbed by a male student and sustained injuries.
Walnut Creek Police Department officers and detectives arrived, detained the student believed to be responsible, and quickly determined this was an isolated incident between two students.
Based on the initial investigation, the suspect was arrested for PC 664/187 – Attempted Murder and PC 203 – Mayhem. He was transported to Contra Costa Juvenile Hall and is being held without bail.
The victim is currently being treated for her injuries at a local hospital and her condition is unknown.
The names of the involved parties will not be released, as they are juveniles. No other details are available at this time because this is an active investigation.

his brain was likely fried due to internet usage + being locked inside during his first few years of attraction to the opposite sex because of covid. never learned how to properly interact. nothing is without consequence people. we have failed the younger generation.
What was Jack the Ripper’s excuse? Or if that’s too extreme, what was the excuse used for someone who stabbed a girl in High School in the decades before the internet? Because humans do human things, and while this may be a travesty, it’s nothing that hasn’t happened since we had sharp objects. i don’t give people a scapegoat for sick behavior. Either he’s a violent idiot, or he was attacked and defended himself?
If I was looking for a reason, I’d guess it was related to a girl saying no to a guy, who probably used to hurt animals. But that’s wild guess.
While this may sound crazy to many, it is undoubtedly at least a small compounding factor.
I’m having a very difficult time finding the article now (inconvenient studies have a way of disappearing, don’t they?), but one study of iirc slightly under 1000 kids in a wealthy area were studied about two years into lockdown, and they were coming up with about 15 to 20 points lower IQ than the average from before the lockdown. These were healthy kids from happy, prosperous homes, but they still were horribly affected by the isolation of lockdown.

Isolated incident or not, there had to be warning signs.
The entire student population should take the week off in order to give school officials time to reflect and work on a formal plan for how they will provide a safer student environment.

How about parents paying attention to their childs behavior. Everyone seems to think schools need to raise children when in fact it’s the parents job. I’m sure this young man showed signs of anger issues and violence at home but the parents just brushed it off.
Sadly people in this country think it’s everyone elses responsibility to raise their childen. News for them that it’s their reponsibilty to raise their children.
I hope the girl can recover from the emotional trauma and her parents contemplate suing the boys family out of principle

I agree with your comment, unfortunately, not all children have parents/relatives who care about their well-being nor care to be a source of guidance and ensure their children are thriving in school. When children don’t have good role models at home, it would be nice if a teacher could be a mentor/positive influence. Unfortunately, it seems that there’s a disconnect between parents and schools regarding how to best ensure kids are thriving. I imagine schools no longer hold mandatory parent/teacher conferences to address kids’ school progress, or lack of.

I have a cousin that recently retired from the teaching profession in another state. She talked about how hard it is to deal with parents as many feel their child is perfect, never wrong and being picked on by the teacher. Parents complained when she required 4th graders to to read a book a month off a list of 20 books and do a little report about it. She was told by parents that a book a month was too much reading. She was basing the reading requirement off of something she had to do in the early 70’s. And to show how nutso some parents can be, I worked with a woman who did her childs homework and couldn’t understand why he got bad grades on test. Go figure.
I don’t know about you but I know if the school brought up a behavior issue to my patents their response would have been “we will deal with that”. Also I remember saying the teacher didn’t like me as an excuse for a “C” on something and being asked what did I do to make the teacher not like me . And most of my peers lived in the same type of home.
I think the parent teacher conference would work in some cases but sadly I don’t think they would be any good in most at this time as too many parents think their children are perfect.
I agree. I have a child with special needs (including behavioral issues) and we are privileged in that both parents are highly educated and have stable incomes etc. Still it is exhausting navigating the world of diagnosing, medications, therapies, IEPs and 504 plans. Some months/years, it’s a second job for me.
There are kids with special needs (ASD, adhd, sensory processing disorders, ODD etc etc) who go undiagnosed and don’t have any help to navigate the world and educational system that was made for neurotypicals. It’s tragic! The kids without informed, involved parents suffer. And typically that means the lower income levels as parents or grandparents work long hours and don’t have the capability to do all of the research, outreach etc that is needed for these kids.
Of course I don’t know if this boy has special needs, so this may not apply at all to this situation, but it is an issue with our society.
I don’t think it’s the teacher’s job (I am a former teacher myself and it’s a LOT of work already), but SOMEONE has to help! Yearly checkups don’t catch most of it with doctors. There are no screenings in school. I don’t have the answer, just voicing this side of the struggle.

As tends to be the case in these stories, the child is likely mentally ill and or emotionally disturbed. There really isn’t any ability to extrapolate this scenario as being relative to any larger analysis of society, politics or people. Predictably, we have yet to develop a way to predict random, random unpredictable behavior. There are some whispers he may have been at a different school where he had an issue around guns. But unless you feel a kid like that should be locked up for life or that they should go to a special school for violent criminals… this stuff terribly going to happen. Very sad for everyone.

Hasn’t crime gone down since the popularity of video games? Violent crime was higher in the 60’s and 70’s than today. Pacman, Mario, Sonic and Master Chief have only lowered violent crime rates.

If a kid tries to steal a six pack of beer I don’t care to know his or her name. Trying to kill someone is a different story.
Stealing a six-pack of beer may not seem as a big deal but if such behavior is allowed to continue, it could lead to further push other boundaries and end up involved in a situation such as the one this post is about. Boundaries and responsibilities should be instilled from a young age.

The stabber was white and the victim is a minority. They were not dating. The stabber has years of violent mental issues, concealed gun, death threats, fights. The principal knew about this red flagged troublemaker yet allowed him to attend Northgate. If Northgate had School Resource Officers (WCPD trained to work with kids and stationed there) then the Vice Principal would not have to risk his own life and tackle the knife wielding student. BLM effectively defunded and crippled the police department.

How is Black Lives Matter in any way involved here?!?! The defund the police rhetoric was actually regarding police reform – such as having more community programs rather than having a police force handle things like homelessness or mental illness related calls. It was a public health approach to policing. The research supports this as effective too.

That was for Tony. Not white, no gun, no prior issues at school. There was a police officer before the pandemic, but now it’s not legal to have one at school.

Parents with good character values can teach a child right from wrong and enforce the teaching by leading a respectable life.

I hope the young lady survives with little trauma. I hope the boy, if guilty, receives appropriate punishment and grows to live a productive life.
This is something that seems to be lost. We as men grew up understanding that the sun rose and set on the women in our lives and we understood that even if we were pushed to an end we always could walk away. I guess in this current situation when half the country cannot even define a woman and guys are wearing “girl face” we have lost that respect. This is sad. I do not know what possessed this kid to do this but it seems clear there is some moral education missing here. I do understand that anyone can be an a$$hole and even if bullied you still have the power to simply walk away and if it is a case of bullying get help “possibly from the cop at the school” (wouldn’t that be a useful thing) My opinion only

This has zero to do with BLM. This has nothing to do with gender. This is a sign of a sick society. Violence is everywhere. MMA and the UFC are leading young men to believe violence is glory. As an old Marine, I’d say these young folks have been groomed to adore violence and harmful rhetoric. They are learning this behavior. Kids are a reflection of the society adults have created for them.
I’m guessing the girl’s family will be filing a huge lawsuit against the MDUSD for failing to do something about this boy before he stabbed someone, and probably another lawsuit against the boy’s parents.
Robert it’s not ufc. It’s the culture. Mass identity disillusion. The culture of enjoying yourself and doing whatever anyone feels became the primary substitute for an actual identity. Which leads us to today. Today we have reached the end game of this process. Societies norms values and institutions. The quality of the people themselves are so thoroughly degraded after being sold this bill of “ just be yourself and have fun” for 4-5 generations now.
