CA Attorney General Warns Tobacco Companies That Targeted Ads Violate State Policy

California Attorney General Rob Bonta issued letters to tobacco companies on Monday, warning them that their tobacco products marketed to Black people violate the state’s ban on flavored tobacco.

Bonta issued the warning to RJ Reynolds and Imperial Tobacco Group Brands for allegedly targeting the Black community in an ad for non-menthol, flavored cigarettes — which are illegal under voter-approved Proposition 31 as of last November’s election.

Advocacy group the African American Tobacco Control Leadership Council, which notified Bonta about the ad, said Black residents have been targeted for decades by the tobacco industry. Nearly 45,000 Black Americans die every year from tobacco-induced illnesses, said the group.

“These letters send a strong message that we will not sit by as tobacco companies work to continue their assault on the health of Black people,” proclaimed AATCLC Co-Chair Dr. Phillip Gardiner. “Now is the time to act to get these illegal products immediately off store shelves.”

The Black narrative keeps Blacks on the Democrats’ socio-economic plantation.
.
Remember when Biden said, “You’re not Black if you vote for anyone that is not a Democrat”?

He clearly believes Black People are not smart enough to make healthy life choices. It’s a shame he generalizes that warped thought to their entire population.
Eventually black people will tire of being talked down to and treated as subordinates by politicians. It’s pretty clear who the racists are here.

That’s not entirely a warped thought…
And btw, the black race has been going in reverse for years and they’re not gonna reverse it.

Based on required diversity in advertising, they cannot be discriminated against by NOT being included in tobacco advertising.

Flavored marijuana is marketed to everyone. A recent study showed marijuana use has increased among those under 18 years old since it became legal for “recreation”.

Democrats are stupid. A stoned Democrat is stupid AND lazy.

I thought they already banned Backwoods and other flavored brands?

Now the state is coming after ads? Is this an ad on a web site? If so, they can’t be serious.

FPN May 10, 2023 - 10:47 AM - 10:47 AM

You can still buy menthol smokes at any Native American store. 40 dollars a carton. California is trying to get them to stop. As for ads have not seen any. Why do the Dems think people of color are helpless?
