San Francisco’s a lot more trouble than people realize. Office Buildings, hotels, are being returned to the banks in quiet foreclosures.. and now shopping centers are following. I love the useless Mayor Breed’s response to all these places closing down and leaving the city. She actually had the audacity to say it’s due in part to the shopping habits of people are changing and going on line more to purchase what they want. It’s certainly not theft, safety concerns, and crazy homeless running all around.

Nordstrom has been going downhill for a long time Poor hiring, Bad buyers and way roo expensive.
The message is people don’iy want to pay high prices anymore and most cannot.
Walnut Creek is next if they don’t wake up.

I haven’t bought anything at Nordstrom’s for years. Not surprisingly since I work at Macy’s and get an employee discount. Also since I spend most of my time in a store, I have little interest in going to other stores when I’m off. I much prefer to be out in nature or spend time with friends. I do occassionally check out Nordstrom’s Rack, since it is close to my work. I bought some nice cardigans and tops at Nordstrom’s Rack on the Peninsula when I moved back there in 2010. Have bought a few things from Nordstrom’s Rack here in Concord, but not the past couple of years. As far as I can tell years ago Nordstrom’s Rack had better clothing and choices. Even years ago mid 2000’s I found that they didn’t have the versatility they use to have. So the store closing in San Francisco could be a combination of issues. I don’t discount the stealing and unpleasant surroundings, but could also be that the merchandise is not what it use to be. Peeople’s taste change. I can’t be the only former customer who felt disappointed in their selection and prices.

I like Nordstrom, however I agree with you that their quality has gone down in recent years. They tried to buddy up with the woke mob and got kicked in the teeth by them instead. Maybe they’ll realize who their loyal customers are and go back to directing their services towards them. Y’know, the ones who actually pay for the merchandise they take out of the store. I hope the Walnut Creek location doesn’t close. I still enjoy shopping there and lunch at the cafe – their tomato soup is the best!

About 24% of the City’s population are Chinese. The Chinese have been buying property in the City for quite some time. Not including Chinatown, the Sunset, Portola, and Richmond districts are predominately Chinese. They have also been buying property in Silicon Valley, especially in Cupertino, Milpitas, and Fremont.

Let’s be honest…the downsizing of of retail storefronts is nothing new. It was happening with Trump. It’s a reality of a changing retail landscape. People don’t go to malls, or especially downtown to shop in large department stores any more. The internet is killing traditional retail. Businesses and cities need to adapt of face the consequences.

Dreamforce could be next. As much of an annoyance as this is (I used to work right off of Union Square), the Salesforce conference brought in a ton of revenue.

Instead of ranting daily about failed policies, why not use this community to talk about your ideas.
The situation in SF sucks and I agree with some of you, but what are you going to do with the homeless? Are you going to call for more temporary housing? Are you going to ask for wages to raise, which in a sense will lead to an increase in prices?
SF is going to be led by a DEM for a while, just as most major cities are. So what solutions should there be? Arrest them all and put them in jail?

Agreed. IMHO learning to make things and use tools was a benefit. However, critical thinking skills were the real lesson. Secondarily, they built the confidence to take on complex projects and succeed even beyond initial capabilities.
