California residents are being asked to conserve energy Wednesday by the state’s power grid operator because of tight power supplies and excessive heat.
The California Independent System Operator issued the request, called a flex alert, Tuesday evening.
Residents are asked to conserve energy between 4 p.m. and 9 p.m. Wednesday to avoid rotating power outages.
To conserve energy, residents can set their thermostat to 78 degrees or higher, avoid using major appliances, turn off lights they aren’t using, unplug unused items and use fans to cool their home. Upgrading to replacement windows in Canberra can also improve energy efficiency and help keep homes cooler during hot weather.
Flex alerts are called when generation or transmission outages are stressing the electric grid or when hot temperatures persist.
Extreme heat events have become more frequent across California, increasing overall electricity demand and testing the limits of the state’s energy infrastructure. Air conditioning use is typically the largest driver of peak demand during heat waves, especially in the late afternoon and early evening hours.
State officials emphasize that voluntary conservation plays a key role in preventing outages, particularly when combined across millions of households. Businesses are also encouraged to reduce nonessential energy use during flex alert hours by dimming lighting, adjusting thermostats, and rescheduling energy-intensive operations.
The California Independent System Operator continues to coordinate with utilities, power generators, and emergency agencies to maintain grid stability. Officials note that while the grid has added renewable resources and battery storage in recent years, extreme weather can still create short-term challenges that require public cooperation.
Residents are advised to stay informed through official alerts and utility notifications, especially as high temperatures are expected to continue in some regions. Additional flex alerts may be issued if heat conditions persist or if power demand exceeds forecasts.
so several huge companies moved out of the state and lots of small businesses were forced to close when the newscum initiated pro china lockdowns
so there should be plenty of power
is the state selling it to the black market
what gives
flooding the state with illegals and housing them in all the affordable housing
leaving american citizens on the street and under over passes
should be plenty of power
where is it going
I better go power-up my Tesla.
What excessive heat are they talking about? It’s July, it’s supposed to be hot.
Your Troll Report:
A/C is on and we are enjoying it. Got the gas bill today- $5 for a month (Range and outdoor BBQ) is the minimum charge. Electric was $85 last month, waiting for the next one. We have a diversified portfolio of electrical production, without the New Green Blackouts of California. Good luck and stay cool.
It’s not even predicted to get that hot today. Not even triple digits. This is just absurd.
It’s 98 degrees right now on my patio in Clayton. May reach 100 degrees as the sun continues to heat it ’till sunset.
.
Wusses.
.
This is typical for summer in Claycord. Don’t yall remember the 70s and 80s?
.
Is there a compilation of Bay Area temperatures in the 70s and 80s? Otherwise we would be relying on malleable human memory.
Just imagine what it will be like when there are millions of people trying to charge-up their electric cars at the same time as they are running the A/C! The New Green Blackout is coming to a city near you.
A/C down to 68. It was at 70 until I saw this. I pay enough for power in the god awful state, I will use it anyway I want. Thanks.
Sam: How many sweaters or jackets are you wearing?!? 68 degrees!?
I’m with you on 99% of your posts! But …… our thermostat set at 79 or 80 is totally comfy for us here in PH/Pacheco. Ceiling fans do help tho.
… wouldn’t have to worry about power alerts or conserving water to the extent we’re being asked if Newsom was doing his job 🙁
How can this be? Governor newsome says that we are a ‘superpower state’… That can rival Germany, Japan and other countries!
How can we not have enough electricity and water? How can he ban gas powered cars in the next decade and make us buy electric cars?. . Where we would we get the power to charge all those?
Since this is a fairly recent development, I can only assume all those electric cars are sucking the power grid dry.
The motors on some fans actually add heat to a room.
And Newsom wants to go all electric in car sales by 2031. How about addressing the current power problems first. If one thinks about it, not only will there be more electric cars that need charging (more than likely the times we are asked to conserve energy 4pm – 9pm) every evening but also an increase in population.I said it before and I will say it again, apparently intelligence is not a prerequisite to becoming a politician. Absolutely no foresight to the problems that will increase in the future. Power and water being a bit critical at this point. Politicians are more interested in how they can remain in office.
why in the most powerful state on the coast, high tech, rich folks, etc. can we not have enough power??
