A driver died in a crash near Briones Reservoir north of Lafayette on Tuesday afternoon, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Officers received a call at 3:23 p.m. about the solo-vehicle crash reported on Bear Creek Road just south of Happy Valley Road and arrived to find that a 2007 gray Toyota Prius had gone off the roadway, hit a tree and became engulfed in flames, CHP officials said.

The driver, the lone occupant of the vehicle, was pronounced dead at the scene and has not yet been identified by the Contra Costa County coroner’s office.

Anyone who may have witnessed the crash or the events leading up to it is asked to call the CHP’s Contra Costa-area office at (925) 646-4980.

That sucks for the family. I can’t imagine their suffering. May he/she find peace. 🙁 I’m not speculating on the cause, but I tell my daughter if a dog or cat runs out in front of you and the only thing you can do is violently swerve or hit the animal, then hit the animal. You life is worth more than any pet (or wild animal.)

Why speculate on the cause of the accident, there is nothing in the article that mention what happened. The person is dead, and it is sad. The kind of car he/she was driving is totally irrelevant. Of course if he/she was under the influence of drugs or alcohol, then of course that might have contributed to the accident, the same goes for texting. However, that does not take away from the loss for family and friends. Have a little compassion, texting while driving is stupid and reckless, but does warrant loosing ones life..

Solo vehicle accidents are either caused by driving too fast, distraction or impairment. I’m glad no other vehicles were involved.

My sympathies to the family of the deceased.
