Contra Costa Fire will be conducting prescribed fire operations in the region of the Lafayette/ Walnut Creek Shaded Fuel Break Project area beginning May 1, 2024.

Smoke may be visible in the surrounding neighborhoods. Residents are advised to keep doors and windows closed during day-time hours to reduce possible smoke from entering homes.

If weather or air quality conditions are not favorable the project will be rescheduled to a later date.

If spring burns had been conducted the past thirty years through out the state we would not have the homeowners insurance disaster that is occurring today. Thanks Jerry Brown

Well there were prescribed burns 30 years ago , like on Mt Diablo .

Trump blamed the Paradise fire on the lack of “ raking the forest floor. Of course the Feds control 57% of the forests in the state. He forgot to mention that.

I’m sure you have an air purifier. If not, this one is worth a look.

Where’s lawsuits from tree huggers ? ? ? ?
.
Wallow Fire was one of largest wildfires in Arizona’s history yet it died off when getting to Fort Apache Indian Reservation and the Apache-Sitgreaves National Forests in eastern Arizona’s White Mountains. Due to Reservation not catering to tree huggers.

ALERTCalifornia’ new website came online last year.
San Diego State and a number of others have joined forces using cameras on mountain tops and radio towers to find possible wild fires. Nice thing about some of the new software is it’s teachable. Going to their public website you can see in real time what’s going on across the state.

Can use map on left side of page to zoom in on an area.
Most recent camera moves are displayed on right side of page

After very well deserved embarrassment at the hands of the media and 85+ dead, aerial attack resources have been beefed up. Remains to be seen what this summer holds.

Next fall, we can expect the media to vilify wood stove smoke as cold weather sets in. Heavy concentrated smoke is “our best tool” when the government does it, but is a horrible antisocial act when a private citizen burns an EPA certified stove that emits a small amount of barely visible smoke. What is the position of the spare-the-air group on controlled burns?
