Congressman DeSaulnier Introduces Bill To Develop Solutions To Gun Violence

by CLAYCORD.com

Congressman Mark DeSaulnier announced the introduction of the Gun Safety Board and Research Act, a bill that would help to combat gun violence through what he says is evidence-based, scientific solutions.

The bill would establish a board of experts housed at the Department of Health and Human Services responsible for conducting research, evaluating federal and state policy proposals, and recommending best practices for reducing firearm deaths.

“Gun violence is the leading cause of premature death in the United States. It is a public health crisis, and it deserves to be treated with the same scientific and evidence-based approach that we use to treat diseases and other threats to public health,” said Congressman Mark DeSaulnier. “As the son of someone who took their own life with a gun, I have worked throughout my career to put an end to the gun violence epidemic. The creation of the nonpartisan Gun Safety Board will allow us to focus on quality research and thoughtful solutions to the many causes and impacts of gun violence and deaths through the lens of protecting and improving the health of people and their communities.”

The Gun Safety Board would be comprised of people within the fields of law enforcement, public health, mental health care, gun violence prevention research, gun manufacturing, victim advocacy, and racial justice advocacy.

The Board would look at the way gun violence affects our lives, including through mass shootings, domestic violence, and suicides, and would:

  • Conduct original research into reducing gun violence;
  • Make policy and funding recommendations at the local, state, and federal level aimed at reducing gun violence;
  • Identify gaps in gun violence research that should be filled;
  • Evaluate existing federal and state laws and proposals aimed at reducing gun violence; and
  • Provide grants to educate the public about the causes and effects of gun violence and to conduct additional research.

You can’t address “gun violence” without addressing crime and the root causes of crime, which are tied to culture, single-motherhood and bad/no parenting.

But that would be racist since single-motherhood automatically means blacks to the left, so the elephant in the room will keep crapping on the rug and nothing will be done other than to further limit the rights of the law-abiding, who are the low-hanging fruit the gun grabbers always penalize because it’s easy and by definition, they obey the law.

The goal is to make gun control a public health issue so they can order the same draconian measures and edicts they used for COVID-19.

100% Correct

RANDOM TASK September 15, 2021 - 4:36 PM - 4:36 PM

woah now there de slacker

your governor is releasing all the gun violent offenders

conflict of interest while using our money to make a fake board

yes you dems do it routinely but now your just flaunting our money in our faces as you use it for your campaign and party propaganda

your words
The creation of the nonpartisan Gun Safety Board will allow us to focus on quality research and thoughtful solutions to the many causes and impacts of gun violence and deaths

focus on quality research so you as a worker for the people are not doing that right now or ever is that what your saying

as well as you say …solutions to the many causes and impacts of gun violence

well it would seem again your speaking out your dem agenda again
causes and impacts ….
errr we are all ready here and are witnessing the causes and impacts of dem policy to actually help the violence escalate

your releasing prisoners to commit violence
the same prisoners you want to vote dem so the problem is you ….directly

is that clear enough and did not need a board or panel or study group

over the last year we have seen all of the dems tricks and tactics and so called lack of transparency to the people over your actions to cause chaos by releasing felons by the thousands into communities un checked

or have you not heard of LA COUNTY

again check with governor before you abuse the free for all on our money

I’m going to save you guys some time. It is called stop and frisk and long jail sentences. Anything else and you are wasting time and money.

TGUNN September 15, 2021 - 4:50 PM - 4:50 PM

Really, another bill, more wasted tax money. They will just release the criminal or kamala will post bail. what a joke.

Tino September 15, 2021 - 4:51 PM - 4:51 PM

A board appointed by whom???? Sounds like a way to put political supporters on the government payroll.

Dr Jellyfinger September 15, 2021 - 4:58 PM - 4:58 PM

What the real health problem is, is all this smoke choking us out every summer… why doesn’t Mark worry about that and find out what happened to the $150 million that Newsom took from Cal Fire’s fire prevention program?

Maybe Mark could find out why Newsom claimed he got fire prevention work on 90,000 acres, but the state’s own data show the actual number is 11,399? You crooks are killing us!

If you want to solve the gun violence problem Mark, you need to solve the gang problem. Gang violence IS the gun violence problem.

You can leave legally owned guns and law abiding citizens out of it…. that isn’t the problem!

Sick of it September 15, 2021 - 5:02 PM - 5:02 PM

Want to curb it. Start informing the already existing gun laws. Use a gun go to jail kill some one life sentence then. As is you hear all to often of some one being arrested that already have felony charges with a gun and also has a history of weapon charges. But no let these idiots clear the jails and let them back on the streets and then put all the laws against us legal gun owners. This guy is a complete waste in solving any of our problems and the Democratic Party as a whole have made California a mess in all aspects of life and safety. Quit voting for these idiots

The Wizard September 15, 2021 - 5:07 PM - 5:07 PM

Sounds like a waste of money, to me. Just like Mark is a waste air and space.

WC September 15, 2021 - 5:10 PM - 5:10 PM

Try enforcing existing laws, quit letting violent felons out of jail. Problem solved, genius.

xj September 15, 2021 - 5:11 PM - 5:11 PM

More money with no results.

Start enforcing the current laws on the books. Stop pandering to the felons.

TC September 15, 2021 - 5:13 PM - 5:13 PM

Yep, done a bang up job so far. There has only been 1 regulation that has ever effected gun violence, the original 7 day cooling off period, extending it to 10 days did nothing, should be 5 max, IMO, but every other law that claims to be about gun violence is either a tax or just a penalty for being a gun owner in California. If politicians wanted to lower gun violence they would go after the actual causes. 60% of gun deaths are suicide, where is the public outcry, where is the senate discussion. Poverty, Lack of “Career” jobs, lack of quality education, all things found in high crime areas. If you lowered suicide by firearms just 10% you would be preventing approximately 4300 gun deaths a year. That is how you start lowering gun deaths

Cellophane September 15, 2021 - 5:21 PM - 5:21 PM

That’s easy.

Convict criminals, keep them in jail a long time.

Problem pretty much solved.

Let the Police police. They need to crack a few heads.

American Citizen September 15, 2021 - 5:47 PM - 5:47 PM

Let the police do their job. We hired them for a reason. We’ve basically tied their hands. It needs to go back to the same way it was in the ’60s. You rough up a few of these criminals, it’s going to send a message.

nytemuvr September 15, 2021 - 5:36 PM - 5:36 PM

Finally, a government entity to study gun violence, what a novel idea. I’m sure they’ll get to the bottom of this gun crisis.

BOOYAH! September 15, 2021 - 6:13 PM - 6:13 PM

Like Heels Up got to the bottom of the illegal immigrant problem.

American Citizen September 15, 2021 - 5:46 PM - 5:46 PM

How these people continue to be reelected is a source of amazement to me. That this guy would come up with something like this without addressing the root problem. You’re releasing convicted criminals into our community at alarming rates. That on itself is going to contribute to higher crime. We already have the most stringent gun laws in the country. What more do you want? The fact will always remain, criminals don’t buy guns from gun stores. They get them from other criminals.

Concord74 September 16, 2021 - 10:05 AM - 10:05 AM

These people get re-elected because this state is inundated with liberal Demos!! Need to get rid of Skinner(BKLY), Eshoo(SNJS), Lee(State),
Wiener(SF), Glazer(ORND), and DeSaulnier.
DeSaulnier reminds me of that worthless speech when Obiden indicated that he felt for the loss of Gold Star Moms since his experience of loss of “Beau” Binden. “Beau” died of cancer, NOT in combat!!

Badge1104 September 15, 2021 - 5:48 PM - 5:48 PM

The first and most obvious solution is to keep the criminals in jail. That’s your number one reason for all these shootings is that they’re all running loose.
Longer-term solution if you’ve got to start building families back! All these angry and violent young men usually had no father in their life but were born out of wedlock to single mom. But do the political correctness we’re not allowed to acknowledge this true fact.

Justifiable languor September 16, 2021 - 7:03 AM - 7:03 AM

Justifiable languor September 15, 2021 - 5:51 PM - 5:51 PM

The laws are fine. The problem is letting the morally or mentally unskilled out with no supervision is a guaranteed failure. The need a chance at reduced sentences for good behavior and then enroll in a halfway house type structure..

AnimalLover September 15, 2021 - 6:10 PM - 6:10 PM

Stop It!! This fool can’t be serious.
How about enforcing existing laws, supporting the police, making arrests, mandatory jail time, no parole and don’t let criminals out of jail early.
Sorry. I take that back. Behaving logically and wisely is clearly White Supremacy and of course the liberal alternative is best.
Convene a group of newscum supporters, and have newscum be the keynote speaker to discuss the matter at the French Laundry. Desanguinate can be the moderator.

caskydiver September 15, 2021 - 6:25 PM - 6:25 PM

1. enforce laws against criminals using guns. The problem is that these laws arent enforced just so they can perpetuate a “gun problem” narrative to promote further gun control laws.
2. destigmatize mental health treatment
3. enforce not just gun laws, but all laws (including those you may not like – like illegal immigration).
4. Hold everyone accountable – especially government officials.

Maybe you’re right I.L.Popcorn…. perhaps we’re too critical of Mark & Gavin.
Tell us some of the wonderful things they’ve done for California & it’s hard working taxpayers.
Give us something to cheer about… or are you just rooting for them because you’re a Democrat?

Amy September 15, 2021 - 10:50 PM - 10:50 PM

Board of Experts? Another committee? More laws? How original Mark. Here’s an idea-Why don’t we enforce the thousands of gun laws that we already have?

Dawg September 15, 2021 - 11:53 PM - 11:53 PM

Popcorn, didn’t you say that you have been thinking about leaving California because you don’t like the high cost of living, and the crime? California is a Democrat run state. Part of the reason housing is so expensive is because of the restrictions put in place by Democrats. And how can you deny that crime has gone up because your hero, Gavin Newsom, released thousands of felons from the prisons? By releasing these felons early, your hero is not only responsible for the rise in crime, he is also responsible for the rise in homelessness. Or did you think all the released felons have a nice, cozy home waiting for them?
What will happen if you move to another state? Will you hang on to your liberal ideals and continue to vote Democrat, thinking it will make a difference?
Once in a while you post comments, and I enjoy reading them. Sometimes I even agree with you, but I haven’t seen you engage in a conversation or debate. Why is that? I would love to hear your ideas on what good the Dems have done for California.

Firstly ensure reporting to federal authorities is taking place as it should, keeping firearms out of hands of unstable mental defectives.

Examples,
Virginia Tech shooter killed 32 and injured over a dozen more.
“Under federal law, the Virginia Tech shooter Seung-Hui Cho should have been prohibited from purchasing a gun after a Virginia court declared him to be a danger to himself in late 2005 and sent him for psychiatric treatment…”

An how about reviewing the “good” gun free zones have brought to our children in the years since becoming law ? ? ?

Gun free zones are little more than invitations to rabid mental defectives out for their 15 minutes of fame that their wretched pathetic lives would never have afford them. Each one trying to out do the last one by getting a higher body count.

Firearms are not the leading cause of premature death in the us. Four factors—poor diet, high blood pressure, obesity, and tobacco use—were identified as primary causes of early death (defined as occurring before age 86) in the United States. Stop saying science. Think mental health needs more services and stop letting violent criminals back out on our streets.

I no longer expect honesty, integrity or logic to come out of the mouth of a Liberal politician.
