A grass fire burned 105 acres between Pittsburg and Concord on Friday afternoon before firefighters stopped forward progress on the blaze, fire officials said.

The fire, reported at 12:15 p.m. along Kirker Pass Road, was 50 percent contained by 2 p.m., according to the Contra Costa County Fire Protection District.

No structures were threatened and no injuries were reported. The blaze was sparked by a malfunctioning vehicle, fire officials said.

I know most of you know and do this, but inspect and maintain your vehicles. Make sure the fluid levels are not low or empty and carry a fire extinguisher in your car. Also, check that your brake lights work and replace the bulbs if they don’t. I am sure you can find a u tube video to help you if you don’t know How to do any of these things. Should be required before purchasing a car or getting a license to know how to operate the darn thing and keep it going.

I agree, but with everything becoming so expensive maybe maintenance will slide.

Anyone who tows a trailer PLEASE check your trailer safety chain lengths before taking off.

Almost weekly/ bi-weekly I notice people sparking their dragging chains down the road – even company vehicles with drivers who probably tow daily.

Not saying that was the case here but a scenario that very easily could create roadside fires and completely avoidable.
