We are experiencing a flaring event at the Martinez Refining Company. We apologize for impacting some of our neighbors and thank our employees who are safely responding to resolve the equipment issue that is causing intermittent flaring.

Flares are an essential part of a refinery’s integrated, engineered safety systems.

Flares are designed to safely manage excess combustible gases, by burning them off efficiently and effectively.

As always, we have a community inquiry phone number you can call 925-313-3777 or 925-313-3601 during off work hours.

Thank you.

I’m not a photo buff. Price’s picture makes it look like a lot more than flaring…

Wondering what type of camera and if it was picking up the heat as well?

Neat pic,,,

I agree, coming from a refinery back ground it’s to broad to be a flair.

Second thought…two flairs together experiencing a massive discharge. The picture is just showing the broad flame up top. When the flairs rock and roll it meant $$$$ in our pockets as a refinery worker.

The Hydrogen plant inside the refinery that I worked at is under turnaround Maintenace. That could cause issues in other parts of the refinery. And yes, those are not normal flaring. Those are massive. Just hope nobody got hurt.

The reason the fire looks so big is because it’s the steam reflecting the orange from the flaring. The refinery is not on fire.

.
More claims and lawsuits are being prepared.
.
BAAQMD will now issue fines and initiate policies to shut down all petroleum refining within their jurisdiction.
