Paul. Which state do you live in, because the California I lived in until recently doesn’t have the resources to even handle the current load of students and homeless. What makes you think California can handle an “influx” of immigrants?

44
4
Chris May 6, 2023 - 12:31 PM - 12:31 PM

There is no argument from most people about a country that was founded on immigrants. Most were poor, little education, and were only seeking a better life through hard work and self-determination. We were averaging for the past 40 years about 1 million newly arrived legal immigrants to our country that seemed to be working fairly well. There have been periodic increases in some years due to famines, failed states and wars. The past several years have been devastating to our Border Patrol, border cities, and some large cities with the huge influx of illegal aliens. I find it almost humorous when Mayors of NYC, DC, and Chicago blame the Governor of Texas for sending a few thousand immigrants to their cities and blame it on racism and being inhumane when the border cities have been overwhelmed by the masses of people coming from abroad. Mayorkas is a Biden stooge who has no idea how to handle this crisis. Congress needs to act quickly on a comprehensive immigration policy that will be both productive and humane for the U.S. I have little faith this will occur anytime soon with such a divided House and Senate. It can be done and should be done soon.

12
17
Oh, please May 6, 2023 - 2:47 PM - 2:47 PM

Today’s “immigrants” are not the same as the immigrants of the past. These ones don’t want to belong or add to society. They want to take and this is NOT sustainable. The fix to immigration is to pause ALL immigration for now, both legal and illegal. We cannot afford to keep babying all these lazy, entitled fools with no marketable skills and no desire to learn anything. They come to take advantage of us and are ruining our country.

23
10
The Fearless Spectator May 5, 2023 - 8:19 PM - 8:19 PM

That’s not what President Biden thinks. He just did an interview with MSNBC host Stephanie Ruhle last Friday, where he had the opportunity to state that he believes Hunter has done nothing wrong, but should be punished, if he is found to have done something wrong, just like every other American, including himself. Instead, he just said “My son (Hunter) has done nothing wrong!”

Jeff (the other one) May 6, 2023 - 8:48 AM - 8:48 AM

On Thursday, Senator John Kennedy (Louisiana) was questioning biden Deputy Secretary of Energy David Turk about the cost we taxpayers (well, not even us, so much grift this will impact taxpayers not even born yet) will have for the United States of America to go “carbon neutral” (I would add, carbon is the building block of all things organic) by 2050. Apparently, some experts estimated about $50,000,000,000,000, and when Senator Kennedy asked this tool of corruption how much the global temperature would decrease with this $50T, turk could not (or would not) answer (because there is no decrease in temperature, aside from natural fluctuation based on so many variants within this planet’s atmosphere, and out of this planet’s atmosphere). Turk actually said “In my heart of hearts, there is no way the world gets its act together on climate change unless the U.S. leads.” This is how the green movement is, all heart felt, and only accepting the “science” that suits their narrative. That $50T, that will cost each person who actually paid taxes in 2020 ( According to the Tax Foundation, there were 157.5 million tax returns filed in 2020, which are the latest available data. However, not all paid federal income taxes. According to CNBC, 61% of all taxpayers paid no federal income taxes in 2020, which means that only 39% did. That’s about 61.4 million taxpayers.) about $815,000. Could start a whole diatribe on those tax data alone…
.
We in this country are being led by a lying, corrupt, dishonest buffoon, who appears to be being led himself by lying, corrupt, dishonest crooks. I’d rather take mean tweets and bombastic declarations of greatness than deliberate destruction of this Constitutional Republic.

Well said Jeff…. and reports that I’ve read suggested the “warming” started a few hundred years ago – before autos, a/c, freon use, unnatural methane release, etc. imho the amount of “greening” we do will be miniscule compared to what is needed – if it’s even possible to reverse warming – which I don’t think it is as it is probably a natural cycle. Just my 2 cents.

choice for what? For President, Trump, by far. I would hope he has learned to select better people to surround himself with. I like DeSantis mostly, of what I know. I am not keen on his using the power of the government against disney, but that opinion is based on media reports, and we know the media are not going to tell what the real story is. biden is about the worst thing that has happened to this country (President-wise), no other person has done as much damage to our country as he has, I hope we can recover from it. I have a rule when voting, I DON’T VOTE FOR LAWYERS, with the exception of District Attorney, Attorney General, and Judges, and if I have no other choice Vice President. You gave us four choices, Biden is a lawyer, Kennedy is a lawyer, and DeSantis is a lawyer. Lawyers in government, especially the pure number of lawyers that we have in government, is part of the problem!!!
.
I believe the last time the Republican Party nominated 2 non-lawyers for a presidential-vice presidential ticket was in 2008 with John McCain and Sarah Palin. I believe the last time the Democratic Party nominated 2 non-lawyers for a presidential-vice presidential ticket was in 1916 with Woodrow Wilson and Thomas Marshall.

Too much braying from the same Jackass;

Justice Sotomayor failed to recuse herself from cases involving her largest (by far) benefactor

Cat got the donkey’s tongue? For all Alexandria (jackass) Ocrazyo-Cortez’s asinine and angry braying about impeaching Supreme Court justices over “ethics” issues, she’s oddly silent over a recent revelation that screams of bad optics.

Less than a month ago, Ocrazyo-Cortez expressed her willingness to draft articles of impeachment against Justice Clarence Thomas over his friendship with Harlan Crow — as it turned out, the story was a nothingburger, and all nine justices agreed that the accusations of wrongdoing leveled against Thomas were baseless, and undeserving of outside investigation. Furthermore, in reference to Justices Gorsuch and Kavanaugh, AOC issued a statement which read:

I believe that not recusing from cases that one clearly has family members involved in with very deep violations of conflict of interest are also impeachable offenses.

Well, what about financiers? Would they be considered conflicts of interest? I’d say so.

Newly disclosed information details that Justice Sonia Sotomayor neglected to recuse herself from several cases involving her most generous benefactor, and the outcomes yielded “fortuitous” favor for friends of the justice.

From the Daily Wire:
Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor declined to recuse herself from multiple copyright infringement cases involving book publisher Penguin Random House despite having been paid millions by the firm for her books, making it by far her largest source of income, records show.
So how much money are we talking? Well, right around $3.6 million, an amount which “dwarfed” her salary as a justice on the highest court.

There is so much wrong with your posted comment. It’s more than likely this case will be refiled federal court.

The fact that this story won a Pulitzer Prize is largely meaningless, as the Pulitzer Prize has lost its luster, much like the Noble Peace Prize, because they are awarded largely based on biased political leanings, and not political neutrality.

When Zelensky has time to meet with the Vice Chairman of Blackrock Funds. They discussed the possible formation of a “Ukraine Reconstruction Investment Fund”.
Some people (Hucksters and Carnival Barkers) might refer to this as an “Emerging Market Fund.” Well not exactly, it’s more of a “Submerging Market Fund” destined to relieve suckers of their hard earned money. Like ESG, this is designed to swindle stupid, naive Americans.
Have you figured it out yet? They are convinced you are stupid, naive, and will invest in anything blessed by the holier than thou. They will never invest their own money in such a fund, and in the unlikely chance they did, it would be at NAV and you suckers would pay retail.

CHRIS,
.
We absolutely don’t need comprehensive immigration reform!!! The only reason to support and advocate for “comprehensive immigration reform” is to increase the number of legal aliens we allow into the country each year.
Currently, we usually allow just over 1,000,000 legal aliens each year, but we don’t really need more than 400,000 legal aliens. Our legal immigration system isn’t broken, it actually works rather well. Illegal immigration is not a sign of a “broken immigration system,” but rather, illegal immigration is a sign of a “broken land and water border security system,” a “broken visa system,” and a “broken asylum system.”
.
Polling has consistently shown that 2/3 to 3/4 of Americans either want less legal immigration and an end to illegal immigration or the same amount of legal immigration and an end to illegal immigration. The foreign-born population of the United States, made up of both legal aliens and illegal aliens, has NEVER exceeded 15% of our overall population. The highest our foreign-born population has ever been was 14.8% or 9.3 million out of a total population of 63 million in 1890. The lowest our foreign-born population has ever been was 4.7% or 10.03 million out of a population of 213.3 million in 1970. In 2020, our foreign-born population was 13.6% or 45.1 million out of a population of 331.5 million, with an estimated foreign-born undercount of 2 million, adjusting for the undercount our 2020 foreign-born population was 14.1% or 47.1 million out of an adjusted population of 333.5 million.

With the estimated 7 million illegal aliens that President Biden has welcomed into the United States since taking office, along with the estimated population increase of 6.3 million from births and legal immigration has us on a path to exceed that 15% threshold for the first time. The United States of America is on the precipice of changing like never before. Maintaing the historic foreign-born population norm of 15% or less shouldn’t be an issue, yet nobody elected to Congress is talking about this.
.
We hit a population of 100 million in 1915, we hit 200 million in 1967, and we hit 300 million in 2006. Immigration should be based on the needs of the United States! We should first ask if allowing more legal and illegal immigration is what is best for the country, what is best for our cities, what is best for our limited housing supply, what is best for our schools, what is best for our roads, what is best for our financial resources, and what is best for our natural resources?

I do not understand your assumption that we “need” a certain amount of immigration nor your historical averages as if that should point to some target somehow. That line of reasoning could just as easily point to how many wars we need to start in the next decade. The California government says per pupil cost to state taxpayers of each student each year is somewhere around $17,000 to $21,000 and the illegals are not the ones paying, we are. From a purely financial standpoint the first generation of immigrants is on average a big net loss to the country and socially they bring more crowding and, due to Democrat policies, more division.

THE BLACK KNIGHT May 9, 2023 - 2:50 PM - 2:50 PM

TO DO LIST,
.
I would like to see less legal immigration and an end to illegal immigration.
.
I said we normally allow in over 1 million legal aliens each year, but we really don’t need more than 400,000 per year. That need of about 400,000 legal aliens per year has to do with a falling birth rate that had been fairly stable at about 4 million births per year for many years, an expanding economy which has required more workers, and having enough workers to replace those leaving the workforce. The fact is our government will never implement a legal alien immigration rate of zero, so I went with the lower end of what immigration studies say we “need.” Due to further automation and artificial intelligence we should be at the lower end of how many aliens we allow into the country until we see how this will effect the workforce.
.
The historical numbers were just to show when and how much our foreign-born population levels were in our history. I didn’t say they were historically to low or to high. I was just trying to make the point that our foreign-born population has never exceeded 15% of our overall population, because that has historically been the point where the native-born population has pushed back against further immigration. The only “target” I pointed to was keeping our foreign-born population under 15% of our overallpopulation, which we are coming close to surpassing.
.
I’m well aware the vast majority of legal aliens and illegal aliens that we currently allow into the country are unskilled workers that cost the country far more financially than they ever pay into the system. I actually believe most of those that we allow to immigrate each year should actually be skilled workers.
.
The Immigration and Nationality Act of 1965, which went into effect on July 1, 1968, is the problem with our current immigration system, because it not only severly increased the number of legal immigrants we let into the country each year, but it also changed our immigration system from one of allowing in mostly skilled workers to one of mostly unskilled workers.
.
If you believe we “need” more immigration that’s fine. You’ll then be in agreement with most, if not all, Democrats and some Republicans in Congress and other elected offices.

Your response did not make any case for us needing any immigration. This is not 1890 and we are not filling up the Midwest farms or getting cheap labor for piecework garment factories in New York during the Industrial Revolution. You seem to believe in an economy we don’t have. In the Bay Area here since many are leaving you don’t see the problem but the massive overpopulation in LA is a huge problem.

THIS IS WHAT A KANGAROO COURT LOOKS LIKE –

In the leftist ultra-blue city of Manhattan a jury of blue-bellies found that E.Jean Carroll lied about being raped by Trump…….then held Trump accountable for “defamation” for saying E.Jean Carroll lied about being raped by Trump?

The Hon. Robert H. Jackson suggested in an address, eighty-three years ago, that the purpose of litigation might just be aimed at embarrassing the defendant:

It is in this realm in which the prosecutor picks some person whom he dislikes or desires to embarrass, or selects some group of unpopular persons and then looks for an offense, that the greatest danger of abuse of prosecuting power lies.

Could an intent to, at the very least, embarrass Mr. Trump explain Judge Lewis Kaplan’s ruling to admit into evidence the infamous Access Hollywood tape, which shows Mr. Trump resorting to locker room braggadocio — based on the belief that even if the finding against Trump is reversed, the embarrassment stands? The leap from the Access Hollywood tape to forcible acts is quantum indeed. Only a judge tolerant of using his courtroom to embarrass individuals he dislikes would have received the tape in evidence. Duh, really?

I guess the thinking in the Democratic Party jury’s deliberations was that the jury would look like a bunch of lying scumbags if they ruled him guilty of everything, so they only went 2/3 without considering the obvious contradiction in facts to do so. This from the Democratic Party that in history brought us the Jim Crow laws to suppress black votes, and if you could not vote you could not serve on a jury, so they created their own courtroom justice. History never repeats exactly but it does rhyme, as they say.

I’m not sure there are many people on Claycord knowledgeable about boxing. Jack Johnson was an unbeatable Black man in the ring beginning in 1908. He opened a desegregated restaurant in 1912 (! ) and worse yet, he dated white women and in fact married one. The Government did everything they could to thwart him, and a countless number of former boxers were brought out of retirement with the hope of giving him a comeuppance, to no avail. They finally nailed him on the Mann Act which only slowed him down a little.
Donald Trump (with encouragement from Stallone) pardoned Johnson in 2018.
Tonight Trump, not a young man, marched into enemy territory on CNN and mopped the floor. I’m not a Trump guy, and he says a lot of things I don’t care to hear. But you have to admit, the government has thrown every piece of junk they can at him and he keeps moving forward. Perhaps they better bring another former politician out of retirement because In a battle of wits, Biden is unarmed.

Back in July 2022, Rep. James Comer announced House Republicans were aware of at least 150 suspicious activity reports flagged on the Biden family bank accounts.

According to Rep. Comer, the Bush administration created a program that flagged banking suspicious activity reports. It was a way for banks to help the administration track foreign money laundering and dangerous terrorist activities.

Congress was always able to access the government reports from the Treasury Department.

But then Joe Biden immediately changed the law when he entered the White House. At that time, Congress could access the Biden family’s suspicious activity reports but then it was stopped.

Treasury Secretary Janet Yellin was covering for the Biden clan. The government is withholding this information from Congress.

It’s just more of the Democrat administrative state lawlessness.

“I come from a banking background and let me tell you, it is very uncommon for anyone in America to get one suspicious activity reports. To get 150! I’m going to go out on a limb, Jesse and say that’s more than anyone in the history of the United States. And I’d be willing to make a wager on that. And this was with multiple banks.”

Imagine that the President of the United States and his son and brothers are part of the most corrupt family in the US. That’s the accusation.

On Wednesday, House Judiciary Chairman Jim Jordan (R-OH) announced that GOP lawmakers have reviewed 170 suspicious activity reports linked to the Biden Crime Family.

Jordan made the announcement during the historic press conference by House GOP lawmakers revealing the expanding investigation into the Biden Crime Family’s massive international pay-for-play illegal influence peddling, and money laundering schemes.

TO DO LIST,
.
Sorry, but I just don’t know what response you’re looking for.
.
The FACT is that both houses of Congress will NEVER pass an immigration bill that would bring our legal immigration numbers down to zero. The FACT is that both houses of Congress will NEVER pass an immigration bill that would bring our legal immigration numbers down to a negative number. The FACT is for the last 20+ years and currently there are majorities of members in both houses of Congress, with 60+ votes in the Senate, that would pass a “comprehensive immigration bill” that would increase the number of legal aliens to 2 million or more per year, and a path to citizenship for almost all illegal aliens. The only thing that has prevented that immigration bill from passing has been Republican Speakers of the House invoking the “Hastert Rule” and the Democrat Speaker not bringing up the bill from 2009-2011 or 2019-2023.
.
If the economy didn’t exist the City of Concord wouldn’t have plans to develop thousands of homes in its jurisdiction on the former CNWS property, former USCG/USN and current Haddad-Maloof housing property, the ABAG/MTC/Concord plan for 22,000 people in downtown Concord apartment-style housing projects, North Concord/Martinez BART station parking lot, downtown Concord BART station parking lots, infill housing on large lots in old Concord, and ADU’s on single family housing properties.

To Do List May 12, 2023 - 9:15 AM - 9:15 AM

My issue comes down to the word “need.” This alleged need for immigration is assumed without much question, and when pressed the responses are changing and don’t really make any sense. We are a developed economy and do not need workers to fill farms or factories. Immigration does not keep average prices down and no number of additional immigrants will counteract Biden’s inflation. Politicians tell us we need all sorts of things, but they are not my thought leaders. Our Congressman is an ex-bar tender. Kamala, also an ex-bar tender, says we need immigration to pay for the past sins of our country in Latin America. That is not a need. It is her want and twisted political agenda.

I’m not sure your last point. The high price of housing in Concord is not an argument for more immigration, quite the opposite.

To Do List May 12, 2023 - 9:18 AM - 9:18 AM

Oops. Typo. I think it is AOC who is the bar tender. I think you showed me how to get a blank space in between paragraphs there with that single period. Thanks.

TO DO LIST,
.
No, Congressman Mark DeSaulnier was also a bartender. He owned TR’s in downtown Concord for several decades.
.
My comments about the housing plans for Concord, which I don’t agree with, was not about immigration, it was about the economy, which you brought up. If you look at the size of the economy of each state it almost mirrors the population of each state, with a few exceptions.
.
I didn’t go with the 400 000 number based on what politicians want. That was based on different immigration studies and I went with the lowest number compared to the number we currently allow in legally or any in betweem or greater. I would like to see an end to illegal immigration and less legal immigration. I would like to see the majority of legal immigration return to being skills based, no legal immigration during recessions, and less legal immigration in times of high unemployment. Congress will never pass a bill that has zero or negative immigration, so I don’t see a point in pushing it. If you don’t like the word “need” then I guess “want” or some other word will also work.
.
The entire reason I responded to Chris in the first place was because he advocated for “comprehensive immigration reform” which we don’t need because illegal immigration is not a sign of a “broken immigration system.” It is a sign of a broken border security system, a broken visa system, and a broken asylum system. Advocating for comprehensive immigration reform is used to create a pathway to citizenship or legalization for illegal aliens and to increase legal immigration numbers. I’d like to maintain the historical norm of our foreign-born population remaing under 15% of our overall population, whether that number is 0.1% or 14.9%.
