The governor (Brown), State legislature, and voters in favor of Proposition 47 drafted largely by Micheal Romano, a Stanford law academic and criminal advocate.
.
The ACLU poured millions into duping the public.
.
Brown and the legislature put up a smoke screen that it was a cost-saving measure and cleared prisons of convicted “non-violent” offenders.
.
The public sure as heck didnt understand the consequences of doing so.

To those who blame Prop 47, how much are you willing to chip in to build more prisons and staff them?

Cautiously Informed February 3, 2024 - 7:48 AM - 7:48 AM

The demorat government liars pushed it as the ‘Safe Neighborhoods and Schools Act’. They are soulless con artists.

Politicians and naive voters. How many times do you have to get lied to before you realize the people promising Californians a better way of life aren’t actually delivering on their promises?

The ignorant, uninformed voters that approved Prop 47. The liberal soft on crime prosecutors and judges. California Attorney General, Rob Bonta, and former California Attorney General, Kamala Harris. Then we have the lightweight liberal police chiefs, mayors, city managers, and city councils. Top it all off with Gavin Newsom, who has been locked in his own liberal world for so long that he’s out of touch with reality.

I agree with DEEE I can’t count how many times I’ve witnessed trashy parents cussing out their kids with the most vulgar language imaginable or letting them run wild without giving any thought of discipline, responsibility or regard for the people around them. Combine that lousy parenting with a lack of any real punishment from authorities for laws broken by these minors and they just grow up to believe they can do whatever they want with impunity.

Just look at prop 47

As for your shopping excursion at Target, just another lie. Seriously, you are shopping at Target? Sorry, I am sure the employee would have noticed all your security …

It pretty much started with greaseball Newsom releasing 19,000 convicts from San Quentin prison.
Now he will hose the taxpayers again while trying to fulfills his fantasy of paying for educational opportunities for the remainder of those model prisoners. A club Fed if you will. It also didn’t help that many newcomers were drawn here due to California handouts, Sanctuary status and other socialist freebies…

Abe is exactly right. The voters voted for Prop 47 and I just can’t understand why they made the choice that they did. Having worked in the Criminal Justice system, it was so predictable. I recall speaking to my friends and relatives about it and pointing out that it amounted to a “get out of jail free” card, but the voters in their greater wisdom chose to create this legal chaos. It’s time to consider a repeal (how it is to be done, I do not know, but repeal we must).

Calif has the Prop 47 dollar limit of $950, where Texas dollar amount for a felony is $1,500. The big difference is Texas prosecutes.

Dawg February 3, 2024 - 2:03 AM - 2:03 AM

I watched a senate hearing on C-SPAN, and San Diego County DA, Summer Stephan, talked about Prop 47. She said that a thief can shoplift every day of the week, and as long as it’s under $950.00, even with prior shoplifting arrests, it will be a misdemeanor. She also said depending on what county they’re in, it will be up to the DA whether they do any jail time. She also said the only way the law can be changed is to put it on the ballot. One of the senators said he will look into putting on the ballot.

Cautiously Informed February 3, 2024 - 7:36 AM - 7:36 AM

Why did they do it? Because there are so many people who are easily duped and who are basically dumb. And, there must be many who think that enabling and encouraging criminals and promoting crime is a good thing.
Also, the demorat politicians have fought past efforts to repeal prop 47.

dude February 2, 2024 - 8:51 PM - 8:51 PM

Prop47, Prop57 and AB109 (yes, it’s all 3 of those), Thieves themselves, George Soros, Newsom (who prematurely released over 30,000 prisoners using covid as a reason), anyone who voted democrat, democrats in general, liberal prosecuters (Gascan, Becton, Price, etc) (not necessarily in that order!!)

It’s a mess. Wake Up California!

Our elected officials will tell you they aren’t pro-crime, they are “social contrarians”.
The results of each are the same: More crime, more violence.

Bill Cutting February 3, 2024 - 10:44 AM - 10:44 AM

Hart cellar act 1965… check out crime, statistics before that. Prop 187 (the will of the people in 1994) being overturned by a corrupt (foreign origin may I add) judge. The great society program and welfare garbage. Every democrat since the turn of the twentieth century. The lack of continuity and fraternity as a result of multiculturalism. The erosion of our culture being pushed by foreign elements in all forms of media. The creation of the federal reserve in 1913 guaranteeing We have no control over our currency. The erosion of the family unit thru academics and all forms of media pushing the modern narrative of multiple waves of feminism causing a rift between the sexes = divorce rates thru the roof = children are not being raised with their fathers and statistically this causes these kids to be undisciplined statistically more likely to commit vast crimes. There are more conservatives in this state than people would lead u to believe there’s something going on with the voting in this state. Add in the influx of more and more third worlders with a limited grasp/motivation on 1st world rules/customs and you’ve got a disaster of epic proportions. The lack of discipline in modern people shows in their appearances and manners. The dumbing down of the school system to accommodate the slow is a big issue. The colleges are not producing nothing. Could go all day on this. Corrupt evil in control for decades pushing degeneracy and decadence at every outlet. A lack of Christianity as well as our founding father‘s principles etc ..

All the pathetic comments saying “Newsom”.. When in reality theft is on the rise because everything is so damn expensive that the middle class is dissolving into the lower class.. We have so many people living below the poverty line that theft is their best option to survive.

Captain Bebops February 4, 2024 - 10:54 AM - 10:54 AM

Complex question requiring a complex answer. The idea of Prop 47 was to reduce the court load and of course as usual not well thought through by writers. Despite what the MSM says the economy is not better and many were hurt by the pandemic and the burden of O’Biden’s senseless war spending creating inflation. Let’s see some stats on retail theft before the pandemic as compared to now? Either that or the “leaders” want to turn the US into something like the Karl Urban starred “Dredd” movie.

rob February 4, 2024 - 2:41 PM - 2:41 PM

If there are no consequences, there will be no change.
