Minimum wage is a entry level wage, not a career wage, by giving $20 per hour those who work hard show up on time and show initiative, are penalized because employers can’t afford to incentives wages for those hard workers!

That’s a great comment but what does that have to do with the question asked?

For now higher prices will be a result, next will be automation replacing expensive human labor.
DEM’s grasp of economics is not that great. Goal appears to be increasing worker income to get them off the public assistance. Problem is, as was proven in Washington state, employees will demand fewer hours to retain those government benefits.

There are some companies established in California that will probably consider relocating to another state, while some other companies will look for alternatives, such as technology and automation. Out of state companies that may have been thinking about setting up shop in California, will most certainly rethink their decision.
Mandating a minimum wage can have serious consequences. Companies will be forced to increase their prices, and lay off employees, which could lead to higher unemployment, and result in a higher cost of living. It will negate any advantage gained by employees making $20.00 an hour, and actually put less money in their pocket and hurt the economy.

As long as there is profit, businesses will flock to CA. I don’t believe 20/hr min wage will force businesses out of ca. however, if CA doesn’t combat retail thief, businesses could move out because thief will reduce profit.

Tell that to Tesla, Oracle, Hewlett-Packard, Charles Schwab, Palantir Tech, etc.

Businesses aren’t flocking to CA… LOL. They have been fleeing CA.

If you can make your product seem valuable to the consumer for the price… but if the fast food labor costs causes the value of a fast food meal to decrease substantially to the consumer…..

…. absolutely…. Cali is way out of control and Newscum doesn’t care – he has eyes on the White House despite what he says publicly – can’t trust a word he says

Yes B/S ,that wage you received afforded your 30.00 PGE bill and your 100.00 monthly rent. Unfortunately in today’s world 20.00 hour leaves you poor.

It’s for fast food workers. Which fast food companies are in danger of not posting profits this year?

Doing a quick search shows that McDonalds, Burger King, Taco Bell and Wendy’s all made billions in profits in 2023.

Sure they did. And they better continue to do so to maximize shareholder value, which is their formal obligation. When shareholders are unhappy, they divest and when that happens the least profitable outlets close first. That means California; and $20 per hour doesn’t mean much to someone who now makes $0.

Very well could. At a minimum, it will lead to a reduction in the work force.

It’s going to hurt the business and consumers. Lay offs will start happening and now you have a bunch of people getting unemployment at roughly $11/hr.

Maybe not moving out but replacing workers where they can with automation. The $20 minimum wage is a one dimensional solution that doesn’t really do anything because the cost of things will just go up and minimum wage workers will still have a problem. Really I think the intent is to get rid of small businesses replaced by big corporate and a very bland civilization.

The only real winner is the Franchise Tax Board, they will get their cut. Everyone else will see much higher prices. Just in time for elections!

It is up to the establishment to set wages and benefits packages. If the business is turning a healthy profit, they can afford the situation. My understanding is a lot of union workers are constantly being undercut for various reasons. Nurses for instance have been unfairly underpaid, and with no contract or job security.

MAGA SAM March 8, 2024 - 8:51 PM - 8:51 PM

Don’t eat fast food. It’s not healthy. Who cares if they go out of business. I thought we had mexicans to pick healthy food for us. You democrats are confusing.

This is absurd, $20/ hr. Many teens already plan to just dropped out from school and many plans not to go to school since there is a career waiting for them .Minimum wages is supposed to be an entry-level or step stone job from one place to others, but Newscum make a fast food job as a career. So dumb, why people ha e to school now if they can work and make good money right off the school

bdml March 11, 2024 - 6:23 AM - 6:23 AM

Businesses will not hire these people more qualified workers that actually act professional will be those employed…

It’s just basically the democrat politicians promoting themselves themselves.
Anyone with a pittance of a brain knows that it all will be passed on to consumers.

whenwilltheylearn March 10, 2024 - 12:00 AM - 12:00 AM

Nobody in fast food will ever get a raise after this as prices go up all around them.

bdml March 11, 2024 - 6:17 AM - 6:17 AM

Without a doubt businesses will flee CA much like the citizens in the last 5 years which coincides with Newsum’s tenure go figure…
