The former Elephant Bar restaurant on Willow Pass Rd. in Concord is in the process of being demolished in order to make way for the construction of a 17,000-square-foot medical office building and dialysis center.

The project is expected to cost about $2.2-million.

This has been a blighted site for several years now. I’m not thrilled about the additional traffic congestion brought on by a 17,000-square-foot medical office building, but at least the area will look nicer.

Awww man I was hoping for hooters instead of medical office.

The difference between a bar and medical office that you see doctors walks into the bar for a drink lol

…I certainly hope, but don’t expect, that they will provide their patients with a view of the waterway, birds and a bit of nature out the back windows. (Can I hear a hallelujah for Nature?) 🙂

I was under the impression that the canal you are describing was filled with homeless tents and trash. It has been a while since I’ve been over there though, I could be wrong.

Do some research on Davita – not the best company and takes millions and millions of dollars from Americans.

Scott January 23, 2020 - 12:07 PM - 12:07 PM

What makes you think it’s going to be a Davita? There are other dialysis providers in the area.

Scott, take a look at the second picture. Pretty hard to miss the Davita signage.

Great news for the canal tweakers! When a patient arrives they’ll have at least 3 hours to break their windows and go through their car thoroughly.

It takes time to find and remove enough items to sell to purchase meth.

Can’t speak for Davila, but my son has had dialysis done by Fresensius for the last 7 years. If not for them, he would be dead, so I say thank God for the technology. I was hoping maybe they would be the ones moving into Elephant Bar building.

katie January 23, 2020 - 7:01 PM - 7:01 PM

Fresenius is a great company in my opinion. I had dialysis there back in 2007 for 9 months before I received a kidney.

Terrible driveway in and out of this parcel. It will definitely have a negative impact on traffic. City planners never should have allowed this to happen.

Yeah, I floated the suggestion to some councilpersons that the site be used to build a multi-story homeless shelter/first aid center. (I mean “location, location, location”, immediately next to the homeless congregation grounds, right ?)

james January 24, 2020 - 3:52 AM - 3:52 AM

Homeless people have no desire to live in a building. They wouldn’t get the pity of being pathetic like they crave, and within a few days the pace would be wrecked as anyplace they go is.ANDA it would do nothing but attract the homeless to Concord.Really great suggestion, are you a sadist or a masochist?

Old Fart January 24, 2020 - 12:11 PM - 12:11 PM

@ Joatmeal. As far as traffic concerns, I thought it was GOOD news that it was a dialysis center. I believe a dialysis session lasts a good deal longer than a typical restaurant visit, or retail store visit. For instance, an In n Out Burger or Chick Fil A would be the polar opposite of a dialysis center from a parking spot turnover stand point. The only establishment I can think of that has longer visits would be the DMV.

Can’t do it – there’s a creek in the way.
The last time I had to put a concrete bridge over a creek (2 lanes and a sidewalk) it was about $650,000 (about 10 years ago), and that was much narrower than this part of Walnut Creek, so let’s call it 1.5 mil.
Besides, why would the owners of the adjacent parcel (The Willows) allow access through their property? Extra traffic through their parking lots, more inconvenience for their tenants, more wear and tear on their road surfaces, more liability for various things. The new dialysis centre would have to drop some serious coin to make that happen. It would be a deal-killer.
However, as someone who drives through that intersection regularly, I completely agree with you about how bad the access is.
Now, if you’re talking about the dental office access on Diamond Blvd., they already have that access, and it’s still bad. It’s terrible!
As for the Elephant Bar – I loved the creme brulee in the early days. Then it went downhill and I bought a propane torch to make my own, and it was much better!

Gittyup January 23, 2020 - 9:58 PM - 9:58 PM

I don’t think it would hurt The Willows to have more traffic through their lots. In fact, it might help. I don’t think a lot of people know it’s there.

Jack Flash January 24, 2020 - 1:38 AM - 1:38 AM

The building in the bottom picture looks way bigger than the entire lot lol

Bill Bob January 24, 2020 - 7:29 AM - 7:29 AM

Why do they have to make it look like a fake “Spanish Mission”.

Kirkwood January 24, 2020 - 11:23 AM - 11:23 AM

To me, Spanish style architecture looks better than a glass box.

Sappy97 January 24, 2020 - 12:44 PM - 12:44 PM

Wow, it looks like a nice facility. They would have to clean up the homeless camp and build a higher fence-not that it would stop them from coming back. One of my friends had his car broken into when it was Elephant Bar, sad things that couldn’t be replaced.
