Study Finds Hesitancy Among Parents, Caregivers To Vaccinate Children Against COVID-19

Less than two-thirds of parents and caregivers would vaccinate their children against COVID-19 once the vaccine is approved for pediatric use, according to a study released last week.

The study, conducted by the family advocacy group ParentsTogether, found that 70 percent of parents said they would “probably or definitely” get the COVID-19 vaccine or have already been vaccinated.

However, just 58 percent of those same parents and caregivers said they would vaccinate their children once state and federal public health experts determine the vaccine is safe for children under age 16.

The study of 971 ParentsTogether members also found discrepancies in vaccine hesitancy by race and income level.

According to ParentsTogether, just over 20 percent of Native American and Indigenous parents, 15 percent of white parents, 13 percent of Hispanic parents and less than 10 percent of Asian American and Pacific Islander parents said they would not vaccinate their children.

Among Black parents, 26 percent of respondents said they would not vaccinate their children, the most of any racial demographic.

In addition, families and caregivers of color were 70 percent more likely than their white counterparts to say they’re “not sure” about their children getting vaccinated.

The study also found that 23 percent of families with an annual household income of less than $35,000 were hesitant about vaccinating their children while 8 percent of families with incomes over $75,000 said the same.

ParentsTogether co-founder and co-Director Bethany Robertson argued the results of the survey showed the need for informative community outreach about the benefits of the COVID-19 vaccine before the vaccines are approved for pediatric use, likely later this year.

“We have to make sure that the pandemic’s unequal impact on communities of color and low-income families doesn’t get repeated when it comes to vaccinating children against COVID-19,” Robertson said.

ParentsTogether’s study, released Wednesday, came the same week that the pharmaceutical company Pfizer announced that its two-dose vaccine was found to be safe and 100 percent effective among children ages 12 to 15.

The biotechnology company Moderna, which also developed a two-dose vaccine, is currently studying its efficacy among children younger than 16.

Pfizer officials hope to request emergency use authorization for the 12-15 age group in the coming weeks, with the goal of vaccinating the children in that group by the time school starts in the fall.

ParentsTogether’s study found that vaccine hesitancy was relatively soft among respondents, and due more to uncertainty and a lack of information than hardline opposition.

Responding parents and caregivers raised concerns about short- and long-term side effects as well as the speed of the COVID-19 vaccine’s development.

Moderna and Pfizer, who developed the first two vaccines available on the market, got them to the public in under a year due in part to advances in the use of genetic material called messenger RNA, or mRNA.

Vaccine hesitancy was also significantly weaker among respondents who knew someone who had already been vaccinated. Roughly 44 percent of responding parents and caregivers said they would vaccinate their children and knew someone who had already been vaccinated.

Comparatively, just 22 percent of parents who did not know anyone else who has been vaccinated said they would definitely vaccinate their children.

“We need to start the conversation with parents now, to build trust and understanding about how getting kids vaccinated against COVID-19 protects their health, their family’s health, and the health of our communities,” Robertson said.

Messenger RNA “vaccines” are wholly produced by lab workers and do not use any natural live virus in the formula
Do you trust large global pharma companies to make safe vaccines?
There is an “information campaign” ongoing by the Marxist regime to monitor social media and “provide accurate information” regarding vaccination
The campaign is called “We Can Do This”
They have not adequately explained why they are using an experimental mRNA formula over tried and true vaccine method of using live virus fragments
It is not far fetched to speculate that the mRNA technology could possibly be used to clandestinely produce results that are not advertised by their creators

This comment sounds like it was posted by a Russian bot. I’m sure the Russian Sputnik-5 vaccine is much better than anything developed in the west, since it uses, not one, but two adenoviruses to infect cells and carry in the vaccine. The Russians have been injecting millions with their vaccine, but reliable studies still haven’t been done. In any case, posts like this are like viruses themselves. Vladimir Putin would be proud.

“The study, conducted by the family advocacy group ParentsTogether . . .”
“The study of 971 ParentsTogether members . . . ”
They asked themselves what they thought. Groundbreaking methodology there.

Clearly not an ethical use of polling.

Everyone I know that has received the vaccine had bad reactions, got super sick, and two of them had strokes within a few days of receiving the vaccine. I will not vaccinate my family nor extended family with a vaccine that has a higher chance of getting them sick more than the actual virus. Everyone I know that had the virus recovered within 2 weeks. Local Doctors recommend drinking water, zinc, and lots of rest to recover from covid. Talk to your local Dr. The virus has a 97% + recovery rate. A reaction or stroke caused by the vaccine is not a risk we are willing to take. This vaccine is being sold so hard to the American people. Definitely a red flag. We’ll take our chances and just be smart about our daily activities. We’ll wait years until this vaccine and this virus has been fully researched. We don’t even know enough about the virus yet. Not everyone gets it. Let’s figure out which blood types get it the most instead of vaccinating everyone that may not ever even get the virus because they aren’t susceptible to it. REAL Science needs to step up! So far I don’t see truth in the science being sold to the American people. Common sense goes a long way! Research research research! Now they are saying the vaccine won’t cover the new strands of covid…. hmm! And the people I know that had the actual virus lived in big family households… Only 1 person in the household had it. The others didn’t even get it from that person living with them. Maybe a different blood type?? I don’t trust any of the research provided so far. We’ll wait! Thanks!

wow… I knew we thought alike! I completely agree with your statement – feel the same way. there’s no way I, or my family is going to get a vaccine that they just came out with! and I guess if its going to be a requirement for travel and concerts, like some speculate – we will save a lot of money!
but also, the name you used on here… I sell items under the name “Think Outside the Box” lol. great minds think alike!

Cool story, Bro!

Aunt Barbara April 6, 2021 - 12:15 PM - 12:15 PM

Dear Thinking outside the box,
Thank you for sharing. I agree with you and agree there is nothing safe about the vaccine and has not been proven to give decent immunity and lasts only 6 months and may have long term effects on he body.
Be aware that some folks that have already gotten it, will attack you out of fear.
Stand Strong!

WCreaker April 6, 2021 - 12:32 PM - 12:32 PM

Everyone I know that had the two doses of the vaccine had almost no symptoms, survived without even a headache, and are now enjoying a lifestyle with reduced stress and interacting with their family members who are also vaccinated.
I know people who died from the complications of the virus. They are not here to share time with family and friends. They were just normal people going about their daily lives, trying to be safe. They did not live in large households.
We each have our own views. But I look at the data from the Senior Living facilities – almost zero new cases in the past several weeks after there was a push to vaccinate those at risk from those living environments – both residents and staff. We also have not heard of deaths of health care workers exposed in hospital settings recently.
Those are my “red flags”.

The Observer April 6, 2021 - 12:49 PM - 12:49 PM

My wife and I are fully vaccinated. My wife got the Pfizer shot and I got Moderna. Neither of us had any significant side effects. My mother-in-law got the Pfizer shot the same day as my wife did. She didn’t have any significant side effects either.

I experienced a bit of warmth on my face the next day, but that went away after a few hours. We both had sore arms for about three days, just like comes with a flu shot. When my friends and I got together on Zoom, we all reported our post-vaccination experiences. We were rather surprised that none of us reported any significant side effects. I’ve read that people who’ve already been infected with Covid have had more severe side effects, but no one close to me fits into that category.

Captain Bebops April 6, 2021 - 12:58 PM - 12:58 PM

This is California which is well known for a larger than usual population who are into health and fitness. Just that would give them a better than usual immune system. Supposedly blood type O people have been shown to be less likely to test positive.

I believe that most of the population has been exposed and many did not experience one symptom and those that did and believed they had just caught a minor cold may have killed it off with whatever they usually do for a cold. Some friends that got the vaccine had a reaction after the first shot and not the second. They were told that a reaction after the first shot usually indicated they had Covid some time in the past.

Yves Harlowe April 6, 2021 - 3:03 PM - 3:03 PM

I don’t know anyone who got sick or had a bad reaction to the vaccine. I’ve had both Pfizer doses and had no problems. My sisters in law had the vaccine, they had no problems. My sisters were fine. My friends were fine.

There has been so much fear-mongering over bot the disease and the vaccine. I got the vaccine because I’m not young, and the risk of the vaccine is far less than the risk of getting Covid.

If you don’t want to get the vaccine, fine, it’s your decision and I won’t attack anyone for that. But I know many people who have gotten the vaccine, and had zero problems I just hate the fear mongering. And before someone brings this one up, no, it will not and can not alter your DNA.

RetailSlave April 6, 2021 - 9:16 PM - 9:16 PM

I agree! Half people that I know who have gotten the shot had very bad side effects, and the others none. I know lots of people who’ve had covid, and all of them compared it to a cold, at worst a flu. I’m not getting vaccinated, and I haven’t changed how I live my life this whole time. Time to move on.

RANDOM TASK April 6, 2021 - 9:45 AM - 9:45 AM

WOW
just cant stay in your own lane can you

why is it that everyone else knows how to better the lives of the so called equity class

you should be ashamed of labeling people instead of helping them help themselves
you automatically label them and place them on a program to indemnify them for life
to be beholden to your directions and thoughts and perceived direction

your whole notion of we know better than you do democrat agenda is infuriating and the most hypocritical theory ever brought about in the free world

dem voters are approving the direct interference of a society and culture to please themselves and allow politicians to profit off of them

you tear down the past and claim racism and harm
yet you revel in the ideals of camps and control over a populous

the dem agenda goes after the underclass and places them under their control daily

essentially placing them in welfare camps
and directing them to vote dem or lose the cash

stop abusing them and give them the means to be free and prosper without a democrat stigma on them

the health system singling them out as pariah should be shameful

yet everyone just allows it to happen

one nation ….not pawns as politicians see fit to separate and use for gain

lets be better people and lift people up all people instead of using them as political bait and nomenclature

My feeling on it is our children have decades of life ahead of them. In the event there is some side effect from these vaccines down the line (autoimmune disorders, infertility, cancer…) we have no idea. Also, these vaccines only have emergency use orders. There is a big difference between approval and an emergency use order. Getting them as an adult you have different considerations to take into account.

And that is just my feelings. As a parent you should do whatever YOU feel is best for your family and circumstances.

Chuq April 6, 2021 - 1:51 PM - 1:51 PM

Whereas the potential side effects of the virus you are totally comfortable with?

Charlie April 6, 2021 - 2:37 PM - 2:37 PM

@Chuq

Like I said in my comment, you should do whatever you feel the most comfortable for you and your and family. That is your right. No judgement from me. But I will not be pressured by others to do anything but what I feel is best for my family.

Chuq April 6, 2021 - 10:12 PM - 10:12 PM

I’m just interested to learn why the negative side effects of a vaccine are more likely to be worse than the disease.

Charlie April 7, 2021 - 12:31 AM - 12:31 AM

It is hard to know of any long-term side effects with just 90 days of clinical trials. Vaccines usually take 5-10 years and in some cases even longer to develop. Clinical trials for safety and efficacy alone usually take 2-4 years. Approval can take an additional 2-4 years.

These vaccines were created in a matter of months. They do not have an approval. They have an emergency use order which is not the same.

Since the start of the pandemic Scientists have observed that children infected with the virus tend to fare much better than adults. Their immune response is more effective against COVID-19.

Tomato Girl April 6, 2021 - 10:54 AM - 10:54 AM

Your not putting that experiment into my kid! None of us will …. I’m not getting a vaccine if your want to call it that for a virus with a 98% survival rate. It’s all fear porn

Thanks, but I’ll get my cholesterol from bacon, my sucrose from Dr Pepper, and my petroleum by-products at the gas station.

Cholesterol? Sodium chloride? Polyethylene glycol? Sucrose?

The Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 Vaccine includes the following ingredients: mRNA, lipids ((4-hydroxybutyl) azanediyl)bis(hexane-6,1-diyl)bis(2-hexyldecanoate), 2 [(polyethylene glycol)-2000]-N,N-ditetradecylacetamide, 1,2-Distearoyl-sn-glycero-3-phosphocholine, and cholesterol), potassium chloride, monobasic potassium phosphate, sodium chloride, dibasic sodium phosphate dihydrate, and sucrose.

Thank you Gittyup for posting this. I can’t imagine how a responsible vegetarian or any other “foody” could inject this in their veins. Also, those with pre existing conditions could have bizarre and extreme reactions. It is safer for most to expose yourself to herd immunity. Also, I would rather self Medicate with proven methods such as
hydroxychloroquine and azithromycin combination, if I actually become ill.

Frankly any regime that condones unfettered migration during a health crisis is more than suspect.

blood clots are the new side effect of the vaccine…. oh joy!
The same people that never read the ingredients or side effects of their medications are the sitting ducks on this one!

That would be the UK vaccine, Aunt Barbara.

What’s your opinion of people who never read past the headlines of articles?

Led April 6, 2021 - 4:57 PM - 4:57 PM

I’m vaccinated but I don’t even see how it is ethical to approve this for kids, given how tiny the risks of Covid are for them.

Charlie April 6, 2021 - 7:18 PM - 7:18 PM

I think the answer boils down to profit unfortunately. They are estimating each company will bring in 15 BILLION in 2021 alone from Covid vaccines. If they start giving it to children that estimate will dramatically increase.
