QUESTION: Do you think our local cities in Claycord should install red light cameras at all intersections to make people think twice before running a red light?

Talk about it….

No, because it would impact the people of color the most and Diane Becton would just throw out all of these cases in the sake of fairness.

Old Concordite April 30, 2021 - 2:17 PM - 2:17 PM

Wow! On so many levels.
Besides the DA would not be involved with traffic cases….

Reality May 2, 2021 - 6:00 AM - 6:00 AM

Chris, so true. And of course a WOKE reply was so quickly written.

Rollo Tomasi May 3, 2021 - 7:42 AM - 7:42 AM

“Besides the DA would not be involved with traffic cases….”

Typical leftist thinking that the use of such cameras would be restricted to traffic cases.

Original G April 30, 2021 - 12:10 PM - 12:10 PM

With all the altered license plates I’m seeing, those people would probably still run red lights. Cameras would probably be stolen. Catch n release CA is cultivating an entire generation of free range criminals. Who have little fear they’ll ever see inside of a Court room or be incarcerated.

remember April 30, 2021 - 12:14 PM - 12:14 PM

while i agree with @C, we should sadly have them as the police aren’t there, due to them retiring and the politicians turning a blind eye the “mad max” country we are becoming

Dawg April 30, 2021 - 12:31 PM - 12:31 PM

No. Red light cameras are not about public safety, they’re about generating more revenue, not only for the city, but for the corporation that operates the cameras. When cameras are installed, there will be more people slamming on their brakes to avoid a ticket with the potential of causing more accidents. There have been many studies done on the pros and cons of red light cameras. Some studies showed a 40% increase in traffic accidents involving injury.

Led April 30, 2021 - 5:43 PM - 5:43 PM

Ding ding ding, we have a winner. Correct!

Cautiously Informed April 30, 2021 - 10:21 PM - 10:21 PM

Sure, and traffic accidents are never ever caused by people running red lights and driving recklessly.

Wesley Mouch April 30, 2021 - 12:36 PM - 12:36 PM

I recall they don’t work wherever installed. Since the intent is profit for the camera company, there are constitutional issues, and cases have been argued. Maybe a Claycordian can shed light on this.

Often, the yellow light timing is reduced to increase revenue, which adds more risks to driving.

It is unfortunate people treat our roads as speedways, but putting Orwellian cameras to enrich foreign investors isn’t the solution, even if certain politicians may think so.

Chicken Little April 30, 2021 - 3:51 PM - 3:51 PM

I couldn’t have said it better myself.

Antler April 30, 2021 - 12:40 PM - 12:40 PM

Fine by me! I usually go ahead and stop when the light first turns yellow.
Wonder what CPD thinks of the idea?

HappyPappy April 30, 2021 - 7:14 PM - 7:14 PM

So…if it doesn’t affect you, you’re not concerned with how others are affected?

PogueMehone April 30, 2021 - 12:47 PM - 12:47 PM

No. They are a money-making scam primarily for the camera company and secondarily for the city. Also, it’s a safety issue as drivers are known to speed up excessively in order to avoid being in the intersection when the camera would be triggered.

Roz April 30, 2021 - 12:48 PM - 12:48 PM

Is it really worth the investment/cost?,….Think it would be a waste of money.
People are going to still run red lights, because it’s what they do.

BOB April 30, 2021 - 1:00 PM - 1:00 PM

NO. Only law abiding Joe Lunchbox will have to pay when they slip up. Those with connections or those without license, tags or insurance will never pay.

Just like all the dark limo windows, roller skate tires sticking out and other things we see everyday that people get away with. It just make everyone have less respect for the laws

Tired April 30, 2021 - 1:07 PM - 1:07 PM

No.

If you’re a crazy leftist you get off – cuz….equity
You live in Danville, you will get off – cuz…you know the judge or the County Supervisor

You are a general hardworking, contributing member of society. They will fine the absolute beejeesus out of you.

mayflower April 30, 2021 - 1:24 PM - 1:24 PM

That’s a hard question. I really think at each signal one should exercise their faculties .. as if at a stop sign. Look both ways.. then proceed when safe. We are getting more surveillance as the days get closer to “big brother”.On one hand, the city would take in a lot of money, as there are so many people going through red lights. But on the other hand…cameras everywhere…..hmmmm

Doh April 30, 2021 - 2:18 PM - 2:18 PM
RANDOM TASK April 30, 2021 - 2:23 PM - 2:23 PM

let the people rot in chaos

get what you voted for now like it
….by the way put your mask on and wait in line
and no more pudding
….how can you have more pudding if ya dawnt clean the streets

get what ya want and still complaining

cant have safe streets if you legalize crime …doh

YOU CANT HAVE LAW AND ORDER when you accept riots and burning of the flag and businesses

what do you think this is

Tired of Claycord Trolls April 30, 2021 - 3:02 PM - 3:02 PM

I hear Uhall has a one way out of state promotion.

Chicken Little April 30, 2021 - 3:49 PM - 3:49 PM

Actually, one-way rentals OUT of California are crazy expensive. You can rent a truck to come back to California for next to nothing, though. It’s a supply and demand thing.

ChuckStir April 30, 2021 - 5:54 PM - 5:54 PM

What for. There are a number of cities now now ewnforcing these infractions to help alleviate potential bad encounters. I was broadsided last Sunday by a person who ran a red light, no ticket issused. So what is the point.

Martinezmike April 30, 2021 - 6:01 PM - 6:01 PM

What we’ve got here is failure to communicate.

Cellophane April 30, 2021 - 6:52 PM - 6:52 PM

I would have to say no to red-light cameras.

Responsible and accountable people simply don’t run red lights.

It’s a matter of character and values.

A camera will not deter people with no character and poor values.

Irresponsible and unaccountable people just don’t care.

Ilovepopcorn April 30, 2021 - 7:59 PM - 7:59 PM

Why not? Anything to deter the devil!

Cautiously Informed April 30, 2021 - 10:31 PM - 10:31 PM

Red light cameras would infringe on the right of Californians to break laws. Also they would infringe on California citizens right to act in ways that are a threat to the safety of communities, and the right to behave like immature self centered children.

Caskydiver April 30, 2021 - 11:08 PM - 11:08 PM

Yes…I was recently hit by someone that ran a red light. When I pointed out that there were cameras at that intersection, the police said they likely don’t record. Would save time and effort trying to contact witnesses to accidents if it is on video and would help accurately determine fault.

Dr. Jellyfinger May 1, 2021 - 7:17 AM - 7:17 AM

See what happens?
Buy a dash cam today.
They are pretty inexpensive.

Randy May 1, 2021 - 7:28 AM - 7:28 AM

… no big brother

OverWhelmed May 1, 2021 - 11:29 AM - 11:29 AM

Yes. My sister was hit by a car in the middle of a crosswalk because the driver was trying to get through the light. She was walking her dog.
The driver says she did not see her.

jjshawk May 1, 2021 - 11:33 PM - 11:33 PM

Cameras are a lazy solution. How about having the Police write $4000 tickets to the arrogant a$$es who run red lights? When the front tires enter the intersection on a red light, that should cost the driver a mandatory minimum $4000, each offense, no exceptions.

Jeff (the other one?) May 2, 2021 - 8:16 AM - 8:16 AM

No. I oppose monitoring of the (once free) citizen, who dares to venture outside, by a government.

dee May 3, 2021 - 12:15 PM - 12:15 PM

YES I have never seen so many runners in my life. And one of these days someone is going to lose there life.

Martin May 3, 2021 - 8:16 PM - 8:16 PM

No, but we should stop tailgaters and aggressive drivers.
