Vaccinated state residents can now access their vaccine record digitally through a tool introduced last week by the state’s Department of Public Health and Department of Technology.
The digital record can be accessed at https://myvaccinerecord.cdph.ca.gov and requires residents to input their name, date of birth, phone number or email address and a four-digit PIN.
Users will then receive a link to their digital record, which has the same information as the physical Centers for Disease Control and Prevention vaccination record card given out when people receive their shots, as well as a QR code that can be scanned to show the same information.
Officials with the two departments stressed that the digital record would not be used as a so-called vaccine passport and is an alternative way for vaccinated residents to confirm their status when entering a business or event.
“More than 22 million Californians are now at least partially vaccinated, with nearly 20 million fully vaccinated,” state epidemiologist Dr. Erica Pan said Friday in a briefing on the tool.
“The odds are someone is going to misplace their paper CDC card and the digital COVID-19 vaccine record provides a convenient backup,” Pan said.
The CDT’s Office of Enterprise Technology designed the tool in-house, according to the office’s Deputy Director Rick Klau.
Klau also noted that QR code readers will only be able to see the information present on the digital vaccine card and will not be able to store that information.
“They will see as if they were looking at the CDC card but it does not permit the creation of a copy of that information for storage,” Klau said.
The state also has no plans to launch its own mobile app that would verify vaccine record QR codes, Klau said, although state officials are in talks about the possibility of a trusted QR code verification system that is compliant with the Payment Card Industry Security Standards Council, which oversees the security of credit and debit cards.
Vaccinated people who need to correct or update their vaccination record can do so at cdph.ca.gov/covidvaccinerecord or contact the state’s COVID-19 hotline at (833) 422-4255.

Just take a picture of your card with your phone, nobody ever misplaces their phone. Databases can and will be hacked.
I think that is a good idea, I will do that. However, phone do get lost, several times at Macy’s we have found phones customers left behind, although the owner soon returns to claim their phone. Last fall coming back from visiting my daughter in Pasadena, my phone died. I went to Metro PCS, and they said I needed a new phone, which I had wanted anyway. It was an Android, Metro PCS transferred phone number, pictures etc. to the new one. However, not everything transferred, fortunately my old phone came back to life, I couldn’t use it of course, but I could at least get the phone number that did not transfer.
Mines been on my phone since the say I got vaccine #2. And according to my former employer CC-HSD a phone picture a valid verification for any and all venues
I took a photo of my card, and the one for my mother who’s in assisted living. You’d think that this information would be in our medical records.
In fact, I have found a lot of errors and outdated information in my chart. I can only imagine the confusion and potential harm caused if I ever am transported to the emergency room and unable to answer questions.
Why does each state need something like this? Why can’t the CDC have it centralized so we can report out what’s going on consistently.

The more people willing give up their privacy, the more they get use to not having privacy.
I don’t think it is a big stretch of the imagination to see a time, if we continue down this patch of willingly giving up our privacy, when at birth babies will have a sample of their DNA take. The DNA will be placed into a national data base to be tested for aptitude and susceptibility to disease. The latter is already available and the former is coming. It is not science fiction; it is becoming science fact.
One step closer to a US National Identification Card. Not a big ACLU fan but I agree with them on National ID Cards, it a slippery slope of towards surveillance and monitoring of citizens.
If the information is available, the NSA will be gathered and the Government will use it. The road to hell is paved with good intentions.
I tried getting my record a few days ago and got an error message with a referral to a troubleshooting form.
Yesterday, I got the following email: “You are receiving this email because you submitted your name and information to our troubleshooting form. Thanks to your feedback we were able to make adjustments and obtain additional contact information from providers, which improves the ability for you to retrieve a Digital Vaccine Record.”
I still get the original error message, whether I submit my email address or my cell phone number. I’m giving up for now.
