It would be nice if Con Fire restaffed station 12.
If station 4 can be staffed then so can 12.
It’s not like there is a refinery near Walnut Creek

Domo first? …anybody at the Costco when it was evacuated this afternoon? was it crazy or fairly orderly?

Costco Survivee April 26, 2024 - 8:02 PM - 8:02 PM

Fairly orderly. Only issue was all the cars trying to leave.

Dorothy April 26, 2024 - 8:41 PM - 8:41 PM

Book report: Lord of Thunder, Andre Norton, 1962. Enjoyable space opera. Earth is destroyed in a prior story (The Beast Master) I don’t have but other than a few reference this is more or less a stand alone story. Hero is a Beast Master with a large cat and a bird that are all more or less in mental touch with each other. There are human settlers and natives. Not quite a wild west type western but the flavor is there. Enjoy.

Well…. last night
Carnitas sauteed with onions & bellpeppers, two tortillas and just a small portion of creamy refried beans on the side.
Washing it all down with a Widmer Hefeweisen…. I had some Modello Especial in the fridge, but I’m not a purist. Giants game on tv was awesome.

I did a Caesar salad yesterday with carnitas in it and mushroom/onion pizza on the side. I got the carnitas last Monday and it was hard to stop nibbling on it. I put away portions for later.

Kentucky Derby April 27, 2024 - 9:31 AM - 9:31 AM

Last night… Chicken, Au Gratin potatoes and green salad. My husband cooked and I watched the A’s game. The A’s won 3-2 in 10 innings.

Roz April 27, 2024 - 2:38 PM - 2:38 PM

Saturday Gathering, dinner snacking on SRF Wagyu Beef Franks.
New for us to try, …hope it’s Yum.
With chili & cheese, on top or on the side.
Plus, Tillamook Mudslide Ice Cream to finish off the night.

Enquiring minds wanna know…
🙂

FYI April 26, 2024 - 9:45 PM - 9:45 PM

Can anyone recommend a good pool resurfacing company in the area? Also, any recommendations on local pool companies for upkeep/ maintenance as well would also be greatly appreciated. TIA!

Bay Area Checkbook is like Yelp for various services.

I can tell you who not to use, Elite.
They are the worst.

Original G April 26, 2024 - 10:05 PM - 10:05 PM

Urban downhill street race would be perfect event for Claycord,
any suggestions for possible course locations.

Close YVR from Cowell to Clayton Rd.
Park Highlands Blvd. is the finish line, that should leave plenty of road to slow to a stop.

Cowellian April 27, 2024 - 6:33 AM - 6:33 AM

Cowellian’s first.
It’s been a long week.

Ideas for creative uses for mason-type jars? We have a pretty good sized collection sitting around. Cheers to all.

Dorothy April 27, 2024 - 11:28 AM - 11:28 AM

If they still have lids use them to put fun or interesting things in and put a nice bow on it. Or put some homemade whatever and give to someone. One that was given to me had a small collection of pretty rocks.

Dr. Jellyfinger April 28, 2024 - 7:48 AM - 7:48 AM

Moonshine

Original G April 29, 2024 - 11:47 AM - 11:47 AM

Somethin’ about levees and slow water . . . . . . .
Hey lets start a rumor, licking pincers on a live river shrimp will get ya all excited.

Sorry – double post, there.
Mason jars are good for keeping dry foods (rice, beans, lentils) safely so the bugs don’t get into them.

S April 27, 2024 - 7:16 AM - 7:16 AM

Pick One:
.
A) Andouille
B) Hot Sausage
C) Yuck

Dorothy April 27, 2024 - 11:28 AM - 11:28 AM

B.

Captain Bebops April 27, 2024 - 11:58 AM - 11:58 AM

Seems a bit cross culture there since Andouille is French. Not sure where could claim hot sausage (Cajun?) but I would tend to prefer B but never had A. C I’ve had plenty of.

S April 28, 2024 - 7:19 AM - 7:19 AM

“B”
like a little more kick than the ‘A’

Dr. Jellyfinger April 27, 2024 - 9:50 AM - 9:50 AM

A – but it’s pretty spicy too

frank April 27, 2024 - 11:52 AM - 11:52 AM

Sorry Frank.

Itsme April 28, 2024 - 8:19 AM - 8:19 AM

There was not one parking spot in or around the post office in Clayton yesterday during the festival. Post Office parking should be off limits during such events. Who’s in charge?

Dr. Jellyfinger April 28, 2024 - 8:22 AM - 8:22 AM

So….. I got a letter from Mt. Diablo Resource Recovery (aka the garbage company) that sez their rates are going up 14.35% because of a new state law requiring MANDATORY organics collection (the green bin) be collected weekly, instead of bi-weekly.
I can’t manage to fill my green bin in 2 weeks, much less weekly!
And get this… “This means you will place food scraps and food soiled paper products into your green organics cart!” “You Will”? Is that an order?
They used to call it yard waste but now some woke pinheads have decided we must throw our wet garbage into the green bin (not bagged) No mention of maggots, flies and stench ?
I suppose that garbage will be ground up and be returned to Mother Earth as compost?
How very “Green” …. too bad about the smell and the bugs and the price increase.
How come we never heard anything about this new state law? (I didn’t).
This state is being run by fools.
I will not comply.

Original G April 28, 2024 - 10:14 AM - 10:14 AM

By what process do they completely render their “compost” safe.
My understanding is it’s trucked to Richmond facility.
Historically only stuff going in our green bin was heavily diseased plant matter.
NO WAY I’d ever use their “compost”, all it takes is a batch that didn’t get hot enough to infect your garden.

Used to teach summer interns who were students hired from Los Medanos junior college ETEC program, a few every year. Ran into one of them other day laid off from tesla, because of his skill set and experience he was unemployed for three days before getting another full time well paying job.
.
High school students in two years at LMC you can gain a skill set that will ALWAYS be in demand.

So what was the cause of that black fire off Clayton Rd? Arson, accidental, electrical, kids playing with matches?
Claycord readers want to know.

THE BLACK KNIGHT April 30, 2024 - 5:53 AM - 5:53 AM

All three stories of the old Giovanni’s Bar and Grill building were on fire last night. The building is bordered by Sunset Avenue, Clayton Road, and East Street in downtown Concord and has been undergoing a remodeling for the past few years.

Dr. Jellyfinger April 30, 2024 - 8:00 PM - 8:00 PM

Well……. I would be watching Arizona play LA right now but the game is delayed due to a massive swarm of bees on the field.
So if I make a few snarkier than usual comments while I’m waiting for the game to start you can blame the f*&ing bees.

They should just send the mascot down there with a shop vac and have him suck em all up… they can’t sting him thru that silly costume anyway.
8:12 pm and still waiting…….
