California Power Grid Operator Urges Public To Conserve Energy

The state’s power grid operator issued a flex alert Tuesday asking the public to conserve energy because of tight power supplies and excessive heat.

The California Independent System Operator issued the request, called a flex alert, Tuesday evening asking the public to conserve energy from 4-9 p.m. Wednesday to avoid rotating power outages.

To conserve energy, residents can set their thermostat to 78 degrees or higher, avoid using major appliances, turn off lights they aren’t using, unplug unused items and use fans to cool their home.

Flex alerts are called when generation or transmission outages are stressing the electric grid or when hot temperatures persist.

Charge up your electric car and turn off the A/C in the house.

It’s only 102.

LOL

There’s not enough electricity so let’s create more all-electric cars, homes and every other appliance we can imagine.

PG&E’s gonna want huge rate increases.

earl September 8, 2021 - 5:34 PM - 5:34 PM

plus if gavin isn’t recalled:

25% mandatory cut in electricity
20% mandatory cut in water

People don’t know the Gavin Newsom has mandated a phase out of all our gas appliances too. So you’re going to have to convert your water heater, central heat system and gas stoves to electricity. How is that going to help the electrical shortages? Along with all the cars being electric as he is mandated. Yet he won’t build any new power plants.
Stupid! Vote yes to recall!

El D September 8, 2021 - 9:11 PM - 9:11 PM

@Badge1104, No, Newson has not mandated a phase out of all our gas appliances nor are you being required to convert your gas appliances to electric. The state building codes are being updated to require new construction to be electric-ready, meaning they must be constructed to allow for electric appliances. But builders can still install gas in new homes and the state is not forcing existing homes to convert to electric appliances.

WC September 8, 2021 - 4:46 PM - 4:46 PM

Recall Gavin. Get some power plants put in.

You guys hit the nail on the head. We need a governor who understands reality when it comes to the basics, like fire safety, water and electricity. The answer isn’t and never will be: “uh… the wall?” when asked where electricity comes from.

Elections have consequences!!! Don’t mess it up.

The Hyatt Power Plant at Lake Oroville isnt generating any power because there’s barely any water in the Reservoir.

Oh wait!
Build more Reservoirs!

That will surely solve the problem.
lol

Cellophane September 8, 2021 - 6:32 PM - 6:32 PM

Wait!

We can’t build any new reservoirs.

The weight of the water stored may cause an earthquake.

We certainly can’t have that.

So we’ll just have to put America’s food basket out of business, forbid people taking showers, forbid personal laundry, forbid watering lawns and blow the price of water to astronomical dollars per gallon.

Problem solved.

Newsom’s going to win the recall, it’s dominion doncha know.

jprcards September 8, 2021 - 8:02 PM - 8:02 PM

@Cellophane

Unfortunately I fear you are right about the recall…

When will California finally be recognized as a 3rd World Country? It meets all of the qualifications.

PESFG September 8, 2021 - 7:33 PM - 7:33 PM

Exactly!

Ricardoh September 8, 2021 - 6:56 PM - 6:56 PM

Would be nice if we had a power company that never ran out of power and didn’t burn down forests and towns. On the other hand look at the places popping up that use power and now electric cars.

DVC Student September 8, 2021 - 7:35 PM - 7:35 PM

No – We are going to run our A/Cs all day long at the thermostat we choose.

We no longer listen to the Government, nor their proxies doing their bidding.

Tell the 2.7 million illegals in this State to STOP using power first, then if conservation is still needed, I might cut back a little.

Historically natural gas pipeline companies don’t give “equally” to DEMs,
could that be enough of a reason for them to be against natural gas ? ? ?

I’ve already got a warehouse full of torches & pitchforks ready to sell, if you guys could just produce some rock solid evidence of who is cheating us & who is responsible for all this BS I could make a fortune!
Hurry up and figure it out before Amazon steals my idea.

Plentiful clean power generated with nuclear micro plants throughout the state. Leaders should grab that infrastructure handout from the Feds and build them. Ops, forgot we don’t have leaders.

Where are all the people that were criticizing the Texas power grid during a once in a century storm? This is an every year issue and all we hear is crickets from the left.

Anonymous September 10, 2021 - 1:41 PM - 1:41 PM

Texans were laughing when Enron screwed over California. Now Texas power companies “Enroned” their own rate payers.

You have to admit it was kinda’ funny.
