When two cars arrive at the same intersection at the same time….. who has the right of way?

A. Car on the right
B. Car on the left

Please don’t get this wrong.

@Dr. Jellyfinger
The correct answer is A; or is this a trick question?

Kentucky Derby November 11, 2022 - 7:42 PM - 7:42 PM

The better looking woman or the wealthier man? Just a guess.

Simonpure November 11, 2022 - 7:49 PM - 7:49 PM

That’s a good one Jelly but you already answered it.

Dr. Jellyfinger November 11, 2022 - 9:20 PM - 9:20 PM

I have to wonder because every time I arrive at a an intersection of stop signs, the other drivers seem to be either totally unaware of the basic rules of the road or insist on changing those rules to be something of their own invention! I don’t know if it is just them being painfully timid and forfeiting their right of way or a complete lack of understanding the rules of the road. In any case failing to take your right of way and obey the traffic laws only leads to problems so STOP DOING THAT!

I prefer the Tashbaan traffic rule (they have only one traffic rule): Everybody who is less important must get out of the way of everybody who is more important! Today it would depend on what kind of car you’re driving.

You nailed it! People in electric cars go first as they are obviously the most important. Although in Walnut Creek when a Tesla meets a Lamborghini or Aston Martin, the Tesla puts it’s tail between it’s legs and lets them go first. Survival of the fittest………..

nytemuvr November 11, 2022 - 10:22 PM - 10:22 PM

Whoever waves first?…The “wave of way” or the guy in the Porsche.

A better question, when three vehicles arrive at an intersection at the same time, one on your right, and one on your left, which vehicle goes through the intersection first, and which vehicle will go last?

Danged ineffectual November 12, 2022 - 1:38 PM - 1:38 PM

JWB November 12, 2022 - 8:07 AM - 8:07 AM

There are so many facts missing from this question:
1) Is it a four stop intersection?
2) does one road have a stop sign?
3) does one road have a no right of way signal?
4) are there traffic lights?
5) is one of the vehicles an emergency vehicle with emergency light on?

Bill November 12, 2022 - 8:59 AM - 8:59 AM

When a vehicle is stopped at the intersection and has dark tinted windows and you can’t see the driver then what? I always wave them on however you can’t see their response.

The Fearless Spectator November 18, 2022 - 9:10 AM - 9:10 AM

Then what? Get ready to duck down.

Captain Bebops November 12, 2022 - 10:36 AM - 10:36 AM

The car on the left. You have to see it from the perspective of the driver in the car on the right. That’s assuming the two streets the cars are entering from are perpendicular. And maybe that we assume you are just a bystander watch from the curb with no intention of crossing. As mentioned many variables to consider. Plus in Walnut Creek I noticed “he with the most expensive car has the right of way”. 😄

In reviewing my garbage bill, I thought of how much I paid when we first moved to Concord. I believe the bill was $12/month, and the workers came into the backyard to collect our garbage, lugging a huge container into which they dumped our garbage, then carried it out to the truck, or maybe next door, depending upon how full it was. In those days, there were 2 guys working, one on each side of the street. How times have changed.

Roz November 12, 2022 - 6:38 AM - 6:38 AM

@ The Old Goat ~
I remembered that too!
Now a days, since we live on a tiny court, and the trucks are so big, we the neighbors, line all our totes along one side of the street so the truck can come in, pick up, then back all the way out once. We go sick & tired of the noise of the truck coming in, beeping, and needing to go back & forth 10 times so to not hit cars & mailboxes. Plus, now the street isn’t getting torn up from the weight of the truck.

Well Folks November 14, 2022 - 8:43 AM - 8:43 AM

Oh Goat
Hate to break your heart but where I currently live I pay $54 a quarter for garbage pick-up that includes a 60 gal recycle tub and a 72 gal green waste can. All cans are picked up weekly and we are allowed 4 special pick ups for over sized items a year a long with a spring and fall pruning bundle pick-ups and 2 weeks to but a Christmas tree out.
Sadly the Concord City Council side and forever and ever contract with Garaventa and when I lived in the are the garbage rates were increased annually. I’ve just had my second rate increase in 5 years where I currently like and there is competitive bidding for service every 2 years by the city.
Curious, what are the current rates in Concord?

Pick One:

A) Alfredo
B) Marinara
C) Yuck

Captain Bebops November 12, 2022 - 10:38 AM - 10:38 AM

Depends on the dish or noodles it’s being served on. I like both A or B depending on the cuisine but definitely wouldn’t want C as the sauce. 😄

No Excuses November 12, 2022 - 10:50 AM - 10:50 AM

Alfredo YES, Marinara YES ~~ too different to compare. Yuck… that’s Wednesday night specialty.

Dawg November 12, 2022 - 10:58 AM - 10:58 AM

A) Alfredo. The secret is to use real Parmesan because it melts better than the Kraft powdered stuff that’s made of cellulose, which is a fancy word for sawdust. Then I’ll add Swiss and mozzarella cheese to the mix, with cream, butter, and lots of garlic.

nytemuvr November 13, 2022 - 1:44 AM - 1:44 AM

@DAWG….Once you grate and use real parmesan you’ll never go back to Kraft in a can. A whole different and better taste, not much difference in price because you use a lot less.

California Toad November 12, 2022 - 11:09 AM - 11:09 AM

A) Alfredo. Mmmmmm, big pasta dish with creamy, cheesy goodness on fettuccine noodles. Add a crackling fire inside, and a cold, windy evening outside in Claycord. Heaven.

S November 13, 2022 - 9:52 AM - 9:52 AM

“A”

Good Ol’ ‘B” has its place of commonality and is always enjoyed, but “A” is my FAV !

Anyone know what happened at the College Park playoff game against Windsor? Sounds like there are questions about the College Park team play.

Winsor 41 CP 15

S November 12, 2022 - 2:12 PM - 2:12 PM

AH ok now I know what you mean… go to the pressdemocrat.com

they have the story and the film. Windsor was far ahead and was just running out the clock. The Windsor QB took a knee and a CP player ran around the line and did a dirty hit…

CP’s AD and head coach need to be fired ! yet I know there will be some that defend this players action.

To Do List November 12, 2022 - 2:07 PM - 2:07 PM

At a WWII airplane show today in Texas yet another B-17 and another rare plane crashed. I wish they would just stop it. Just stop it. There are not very many of those planes left and every couple of years there is another story of another one crashed and lost. These are museum pieces. Fly them a bit for a show, fine. But if you look at the video they were just hot dogging around. What jerks. Reminds me of those morons who left a bunch of welding stuff on the Notre Dame roof in Paris and let it burn. Why are there so many idiots in charge of things that are valuable. Sheer stupidity strikes again.

@DR. JELLYFINGER….But will Hanne figure it out?

Dr. Jellyfinger November 18, 2022 - 7:48 AM - 7:48 AM

@Superstitious Aloysius ~ You asked: “Why no time stamps on stories now?”
The only reason I can think of is that it is so nobody can tell if you got scooped on a story that a different entity reported first…. but that would be kind of petty. I’m sure there’s a better reason.

The Fearless Spectator November 13, 2022 - 9:22 AM - 9:22 AM

I was sad to see this. A few years ago I was fortunate to take a ride on the Nine-O-Nine B-17 which as you know crashed a few years ago. I was sad for the people who perished but also for the people who will never experience a ride in a WWII bomber. The days of these exhibition flights and ride-alongs are likely over. Both these crashes were completely avoidable with better attention to safety. Obviously insurance companies will not likely continue to provide coverage for such events.

The internet is no substitute for the in-person thunder of a B-17, B-24, or the louder still B-25 Mitchell.

rk November 12, 2022 - 2:09 PM - 2:09 PM

what about the phenomenon of virtually everybody you see; walking, standing frozen, driving, riding bikes, scooters, or doing whatever, while having their pacifier stuffed in their face.

who also sees this as EXTREMELY BIZARRE behavior, even though strictly statistically speaking, it is the popular trait now.

I’ve read it takes less bandwidth to render an internet page with a black background than it does a white one.. My website has a white background, also, because, of the templates available, the colors were atrocious and the white was less offensive to me. The colors the templates offered were very “trendy” and must have been introduced by that group that decides which colors will be “hot” that season.

Sometimes, someone else decides what templates for websites will be available to use. They almost force you to go along with what everybody else is doing with their website. Like currently I’m seeing a lot of websites with text over blocks of different colors on the page. I think it’s too “busy” and unnecessary, but that’s just me.

I’ve had pretty much the same design on my website since I started it, but it hasn’t been easy keeping it simple. I’ve had to fight for it and avoid the templates they provide me which makes the whole process more difficult. I had decided on a restful gray background which avoided the problem of a black or white background, but they didn’t offer it the last time they upgraded the templates, so I had to go with white, too, because I didn’t think I was badass enough to have a black background on my website … although I think it looks impressive.

So, sometimes you just have to take what they give you to work with when it comes to website design, depending on the provider.

The thing that can really slow a website are videos especially YouTube videos. Loading just a picture of the thumbnail would be much better with the a link to the video when clicked on. Web design is an always changing thing. I’ve noticed some sites have moved away from “landing pages” to more of a blog look even if they are not blogs. There’s probably more developers refining blog templates than landing page templates.

Gittyup November 13, 2022 - 12:25 PM - 12:25 PM

I never really understood the necessity of the landing page, except as a polite formality. I figured you go to a website for the content , and the “About” page will pretty much answer any questions you have. I only had a landing page briefly because it seemed like everybody had one. I dropped it in an effort to pare the site down so it would load faster. It’s heavy on high resolution images, another thing that wasn’t especially in favor at the time.

Today’s websites are a sophisticated far cry from those early do-it-yourself models.
