The National Weather Service wasn’t kidding when they said it was going to be cold today.

Temperatures around Contra Costa County, including parts of Claycord, were in the high 20s this morning.

It should warm up by tomorrow, when we have another chance of rain. Low temperatures are expected to be in the 40s.

Don’t think it got that cold here as the house in the morning was just showing the same temp as the rest of the week (with furnace off overnight). The Bay Area has microclimates but probably depends on what is on the geoengineering weekly menu.

Cold yes but the only thing here to prove it was front on the newspaper wrappers. (Yes, I still take real newspapers.) I was kind of hoping to see some frost on garage rooftops.

It’s unusual, but it does happen. We had a deep freeze sometime after we moved to Concord, back in the early `90s. It killed our Eucalyptus tree and several other plants.

No sympathy for the Eucalyptus. A tree that doesn’t belong in California. Fire hazard, toxic leaves, tip over problems, + giant killer branches that can fall spontaneously. Leave them to Australia

I absolutely agree! I always considered them to be giant weeds. Between the wooden shake roofs and all the eucalyptus trees, it is no wonder that the Oakland Hills fire was so deadly.

Mornings like this make me yearn for the tropics. 75 degrees, 80% humidity, and a steady breeze off the water. I don’t know how people live in places where it snows every winter, I can’t even stand the ten or twenty days a year it dips into the low 30s, high 20s here.

Time to book my next getaway…

I love Eucalyptus! They smell heavenly and they are natural insect repellants. I don’t believe there was anything quite as beautiful as the Eucalyptus grove that was once the defining feature of downtown Clayton. They are gone but not forgotten. The Oakland hills fire can be attributed to a very young and inexperienced Fire Chief, not fully qualified for the job, who did not take adequate measured to monitor the smaller, initial fire overnight.

If you are born in cold climate you don’t think about it, since it’s all you know. I was born in. Denmark, when l came to the US l lived in Connecticut and New York, both had cold winters, but hot summers, which we don’t always have in Denmark. I lived in New Orleans for a year and a half, hated winters there, it was 76 degrees Christmas Eve, not what l was use to. At least in California it’s somewhat cold at Christmas time.
