Claycord Online Museum – John Jawad’s (And Chubby Humble’s) Pioneer Inn In Downtown Clayton

Here’s an old advertisement for John Jawad’s Pioneer Inn in downtown Clayton.

The restaurant changed hands throughout the years, and the building was a hotel in the late-1800s and early 1900s. It now houses a church.

Fun Fact: The picture below is a still shot from the movie “The Wild Ride,” starring Jack Nicholson. It was filed in Clayton, and throughout Contra Costa County. When the movie was filmed, the restaurant was known as Chubby Humble’s Pioneer Inn.

That screen shot from the movie is at 44 minutes, the whole movie shows what Concord used to look like in 1960…

Loved the movie link! What great shots of the old Speedway and the shots of the Pioneer Inn.
Had many “business” lunches there with other PG&E management buddies; on PG&E’s account.
