BART is reporting major delays Tuesday morning on its Antioch line because of an equipment problem on the track near Pleasant Hill.

A BART spokesperson said around the equipment problem is affecting trains in both directions on the Antioch line, and that trains have been removed from service as a result.

Bus shuttles are taking riders between the Concord and Walnut Creek stations, according to the transit agency.

A stretch of BART track between its Pleasant Hill/Contra Costa Centre and Concord stations has had various problems in recent months, including a partial train derailment in June, and has been the site of several weekends of track upgrade work by the agency’s crews.

There is no estimate yet for when BART service will return to normal Tuesday.

DEspite the Billions & billions we’ve been taxed for this and very highly paid BART employees – they still can’t fix their “equipment problems” in the WC, PH, & concord areas…. this is where we need to “defund” incompetance

I live along that section of track and the train wheels have been noticeably louder the past few weeks. Maybe the cold and wet weather is to blame? There was a fire along the tracks just three houses down from me last summer. Kinda expect to wake up one morning with a derailment in my back yard!

Something I have been mulling over for the past few years is that things have become too complicated for the average person, or even rocket scientist, to understand. It used to be that the average high school graduate could perform most, if not all, daily tasks at home and work quite competently. If a gadget stopped working they were easy to take apart, understand what the various pieces did, locate the broken or worn piece, repair or replace the piece, and reassemble.

These days we have entire generations of people stumbling through life surrounded by things that rocket scientists, much less the average person, are unable to understand. I think we are also loosing basic tech, such as how to have trains run reliably. We had decent railways and trains starting in the mid 1700s but now are in a position where the king’s best men and women can’t figure out and fix a glitch on the tracks in the area of the Pleasant Hill BART station.

Despite billions of dollars in capital funding, BART is a pathetic and unreliable system.

Today I set up the 1937 Lionel Train set that was my Dad’s. I had a few glitches to work on and it’s now running smoothly.
Perhaps if more kids were given a train set as a child they would know how to do something other than type.

Enjoy the train. Wish I still had the old one we had when I was a kid.

Change the slogan under the Entrance sign to read “Abandon hope all ye who enter here.”

BART is certainly a train wreck these days. Pardon the pun.
