Happy Friday! Last “whatever” of 2022. It’s hard to believe it’s almost 2023.

Anyone have any New Year’s Eve plans? Hope you all stay safe and have a nice weekend.

🙂

New Year’s Eve, staying home off the roads and away from the amateurs.

Hanne Jeppesen December 30, 2022 - 7:55 PM - 7:55 PM

Going to a friends house in Walnut Creek, it’s a small informal gathering about 20 or so, but it’s very nice, good food, champagne and good friends. Best of all can get there without getting on the highway, just 15 minutes from where I live.

Have a great weekend

It is so lovely to see the creeks full! I feel so bad for all the animals in the creeks who must be impacted by all the trash the homeless dump in there. Recently I was on Iron Horse and saw a duck somehow got stuck in an overturned shopping cart. I tipped it over and the little critter got out … anyway, sadly the rain is washing all the filth out to our poor ocean! Humans are awful

Looking for a family member of Hanavan, maybe 2 Ns. Lives in AZ, brother lives in N Concord a short hop from me. His number is not working. Could be anything but this is a reach for help. If a family member reads this, he’s kinda my Lil bro. We keep in touch

Ancient Mariner December 30, 2022 - 8:43 PM - 8:43 PM

Was in the newly-opened Ace Hardware on Contra Costa Blvd. today.
Overheard an employee telling another that a man had picked up two power tools and just walked out of the store with them. They’ve been open only a few weeks and this is already happening to them!

Will go to my brother’s family for some games, snacks, and bang on pots and pans at midnight.

When I was a child my parents and our neighbors rotated each year to host the new year’s party. Nobody had to srive. It was amusing hearing when my Father got drunk.

I’ll be watching the show the night before the Dead played their last show at Winterland. Newly posted, from what looks like Bill Graham’s Vault, hoping the sound is good. I had always heard this show was better than the NYE show the next night. Happy New Years everyone!

Thanks for the link, Nytemuvr!

Wow – thanks for that info. Saw the Dead at Winterland many times. I’ve seen Dead & Company in several different States. Best one: Blossom Music Center, Ohio. Worst one: Shoreline in CA. I’d love to go to the last show at Giants stadium next year but the tix $ are outrageous. It’s ok, I don’t think Bobby will really retire. He’ll be out with Wolf Bros again.

Cannot believe how fast this year flew by and all that has happened in this year.
Right now, with this rain, there is a bit of flooding in our backyard, …been 3 years since that happened.

The whole-body nerve damage I suffered from Shingles and Bell Palsy September 2021 is 90% gone.
Thank You, to my Lil Bro, Simonpure, who would check up on me here on Claycord to make sure I was getting better. Also, for encouraging me to quit smoking and I did, March 2020. What a true Friend you have become to me.

Also, want to say, I like reading many of my fellow Claycordian’s post, …. some make me laugh or cry.

And to you MAYOR, …. Thank You for Claycord. Really appreciate this site and all You do.

Hope for a Wonderful new start for All here.
Happy New Year!

Roz—Good for you to quit smoking, I know it’s not an easy task. I quit in 1974 when a pack went up to 45 cents. It wasn’t easy, but I was too cheap to spend 45 cents for a pack of Marlboro’s. Glad you’re feeling better. Happy New Year.

I commend anyone who can quit smoking. I quit when the Navy Exchange raised the price of a pack of Marlboros to 29¢.

I quit 33 years ago but I still smoke in my dreams…..really!
That’s kinda weird isn’t it?

Cowellian January 3, 2023 - 11:03 AM - 11:03 AM

It’s been decades since I dreamed about smoking, but yeah, I did it also. And it sort of makes sense. For years, I was smoking pretty much the entire time I was awake. It’s not too surprising that the smoke infiltrated my dreams.

Took me a while to get used to it, but it really looks impressive!

Dr. Jellyfinger December 31, 2022 - 4:56 PM - 4:56 PM

OK….. it’s obvious everyone is ignoring the rabid elephant in the room here, so I guess it’s up to me to start with the “New Years Resolutions” ….. sorry.

Anyhow, I resolve to be less snarky, act a bit more mature (“act” is the operative word there) and not drink anymore (or any less).

Three resolutions is tops for me…. more than enough.

Jeff (the other one) December 31, 2022 - 8:24 PM - 8:24 PM

Years ago, I made a resolution to give up New Year’s Resolutions. To date, that is the only one I have been able to follow.

Cowellian January 2, 2023 - 3:02 PM - 3:02 PM

Yesterday, I cleaned out my in-basket, so my New Year’s Resolutions are complete.

Broke my cardinal rule this year and went Christmas shopping in Concord. I hadn’t been Christmas shopping in Concord since the 1980s when a woman intentionally backed into me trying to get the parking space I was waiting for at Macy’s. So this year I’m in line to buy Christmas cookies and some woman skipped the line and barged in front of me. I refrained from giving her my spiel about how you could get kicked out of Disneyland for doing that and just said something like, “I think I was next.” She looked me straight in the face and said, “Shut up!” When I got to the parking lot she was waiting with her cellphone and started taking photos. Geeze! Last time I shop in Concord! I think that qualifies as psycho! Newsom must have released a bunch over here.

When snow really builds up on railroad around Donner Pass every decade or so, rotary snow plows are brought out. A few URLs on railroad snow clearing.

Thanks loads for these fabulous video clips. I’ve always been a train nut; but now just enjoying my HO train layout in my shop. Thanks again, OG!!

The Fearless Spectator January 1, 2023 - 6:01 PM - 6:01 PM

Good for you! There is something magic about trains. I have my Dad’s 1937 Lionel around the tree and will be taking it down tonight. I still have a little HO and N scale stuff packed away. Perhaps you have inspired me to revisit it. As I recall, the N scale stuff was a bit temperamental.

@DR. JELLYFINGER…At least Scuzz has some interesting videos, but don’t think he’ll make it on the Opry.

Dr. Jellyfinger January 5, 2023 - 7:38 PM - 7:38 PM

I like “Anita Beer” …. but you’re right about Twittly… he isn’t for everyone.

I have been getting a lot of scam calls since the beginning of the year. Starts at 5-6 in the morning and continues through out the day and evening. Calls from everywhere around the country. Around 12+. Anyone else been getting scam calls in large numbers lately?

Bill January 5, 2023 - 8:42 AM - 8:42 AM

Over 1000 scam calls last year, morning, noon and night. It’s pretty annoying.

doremi January 5, 2023 - 10:35 AM - 10:35 AM

All day long long. The call numbers start with a V(###)#######. The call out of numbers lets me know it is spam. I will dump the business line as soon as the contract is up.

Dr. Jellyfinger January 4, 2023 - 7:00 PM - 7:00 PM

I got a call from Shanghai last week, they left a message… really!
I couldn’t understand a word of it. Must’ve been a wrong number.

nytemuvr January 5, 2023 - 6:37 AM - 6:37 AM

@DR. JELLYFINGER….I got one from there last week too, but didn’t pick up. That was a first for me.
