Cowellian March 3, 2023 - 7:03 PM - 7:03 PM

Cowellian’s First, and I am ready for a fresh start. We started the day with a severe thunderstorm that freaked out the dogs and turned our yard into a swamp. Then we spent a few hours under a tornado warning, exactly three years after the tornado that took out East Nashville. Then the wind really kicked in. We were relatively lucky, but we did lose our chimney cover. However, some of our friends and neighbors had it a lot worse. The folks across the street lost their first tree, which just landed in their driveway. Then, their second tree tore down their new fence and landed in their new swimming pool. The third tree just missed smashing their car, because the tree is being suspended by their neighbor’s electric wires. Meanwhile, there are downed trees and power lines and blocked roads all over Middle Tennessee.

Glad You & Yours weathered the crazy storm.
As for your neighbor(s) & friend(s), you’ll be able to lean a helping hand 🙂

Good luck and stay safe, to you and your neighbors. Cousins in Texas have had some crazy weather. Ours looks pretty tame in comparison.

Paranoid pablito March 3, 2023 - 8:02 PM - 8:02 PM

An easy harmless way to freak people out: Face the wrong way in an elevator. Never disappoints. Any others I’m missing?

Yes. Ask someone for directions. When they point in the direction, stare at their pointed finger. Works every time.

When standing outside on a sidewalk while other people are nearby, look up at the sky and point. Then check to see how many people are looking up.

Get a bunch of of garden gnomes and line them up in battle formation in your driveway. Neighbors will immediately stop speaking with you and will herd their children indoors.

Facing the wrong way on an escalator would be fun!

Hanne Jeppesen March 4, 2023 - 2:14 PM - 2:14 PM

Could also be a good way to get hurt. In the years working retail I have witness several accidents involving the escalator. Often elder people with a cane or walker try to navigate the escalator, not a good idea, take the elavator. There are signs on the escalator indicating, walkers, stroller and dogs should not go on the escalator. I once saw a little boy getting his hand caught in the escalator at Los Angeles airport, terrifying to see. Escalators are not for children to play on, not a good idea for anyone not steady on their feet. I also see teenager go on the escalator with their shoes untied, they don’t realize that the laces can get caught and cause an accident. Whenever I see someone wanted to get on the escalator with a stroller, cane etc. I politely interfere and let them know where the elevator is and that they will be much safer there.

Book report: Aftermath, Levar Burton, 1997. There is a updated author’s note added in 2021. Story unfolds in four sections and is mostly about 3 people who don’t know each other coming together to save the forth one. A young girl, an Lakota shaman, and ex-physicist, each coming from different parts of the country to save a woman. The first 3 parts are short but give snapshots of economic and social collapse from civil war. The sci-fi part comes in regarding an invention the woman has created, that is stolen, and she is kidnapped because of it. This is a read that gives some idea of what could happen if our country really fell into total lawlessness.

Woke movement is the new stupid.
Just heard Disney is taking out the song zippity Doo dah from all their parades and any rides that played it because it’s racist.

California Toad March 4, 2023 - 10:34 AM - 10:34 AM

A) French onion soup sounds pretty good right about now, with big, cheese-y croutons. Never tried French shallot soup.

Cyn March 4, 2023 - 12:17 PM - 12:17 PM

@S
A). The first time I ever had French onion soup (and the best) was in an alley in San Francisco…..I think the name of the restaurant was The Assay Office. Never heard of or tried French shallot soup.

Hanne Jeppesen March 4, 2023 - 2:17 PM - 2:17 PM

I remember the Assay Office, sure I have been there, cannot recall the location right now. Another place that was in an alley by Mission street, The Cadillac Bar and Grill, use to go there a lot with friends. Even met a guy I dated for and who became a life long friend.

Cyn March 4, 2023 - 7:37 PM - 7:37 PM

@Hanne
Haven’t been to The Cadillac Bar; however, I think there are a couple others we’ve both been to…..Harrington’s and/or The Royal Exchange. Maybe even MacArthur Park? Sounds like you also had some fun in the City in the late ’70s, early ’80s.

Hanne Jeppesen March 5, 2023 - 3:35 PM - 3:35 PM

I lived on the Peninsula. When l got divorced in 1984 l joined the Scandinavian Club members were from all over the Bay Area, some worked in the City, so Friday night we would meet, at the Royal Exchange, Liliy’s or Cadillac, sometimes we moved on to Perry’s on Union Street or went to North Beach to go dancing at Silhouettes. Also The Holding Company and Mulhern’s were favorites. From mid eighties to mid nineties, were the best, other than the late sixties. Been to Macarthur’s both when l was married and single. One member of the Scandinavian Club ( Erik Turjesen) played guitar with a band sometimes the played outside Royal Exchange, he was very talented ended up playing with Starship (formerly Jefferson Airplane). Sadly he died of cancer at only 34.
We probably ran into each other at one of those places.

Waverly Place – site of some particularly nasty violence during the Tong wars.

I tend to avoid allies…
🙂
“A” for me
.
I like both very much, but onions are usually cheaper…
The “B” is a less robust flavor, but still really good.

Ahhhhhhh day 2 of a break from snow. It’s a bit cloudy and more snow is suppose to come in overnight and into tomorrow. In the mean time it’s a fabulous day for the monthly wine walk and and evening watching a production of Gaslight at the community theater.

I’ve been watching whatever they’re building next to Taco Bell on Clayton road for at least 6 months I have never seen so many uneducated, untrained stupid construction workers in my life on this project.

Honestly I am really surprised nobody has gotten seriously hurt or killed on this construction site.

I don’t think either one of the buildings they’re putting up are ever going to get done.

Reading about Austin Texas being taken over by crime and gangs.
I was born and raised in Texas live there part of the year and it disgusts me Texas citizens do t stand up for protecting their city. C’mon now y’all got guns use em! The cops are useless now, so it’s time to protect your own city and shoot the bad guys.

Back in my days we would take matters in our own hands when the cops wouldn’t do much cause of bureaucratic garbage from their superiors the politicians or their City Councils.

Vigilantism, it’s time to rise up and straighten things up.

To Do List March 5, 2023 - 12:56 PM - 12:56 PM

The thing is, this is not the good old days. The justice system is extremely jealous and furious and vengeful toward those who do the job of crime suppression that they are not doing. I think you should be able to shoot a looter on sight, but if you do you will be in prison forever. However, in my opinion this is a discussion for the politics section and should not pollute “whatever.”

A. French Onion soup my favorite. As a child was terrified of escalators. Mom was terrified of elevators. Mom would put me into the elevator, run to the escalator and meet me back at the elevator. It worked no problems.

Dear Mayor of Claycord: I know how important ads are, but lately the actual content of this great site is kind of obscured in a sea of ads – I’m starting to feel like I’m paging through one of those endless slideshow-style clickbait ad formats. Otherwise, Claycord provides a welcome community forum.

Dr. Jellyfinger March 10, 2023 - 7:43 AM - 7:43 AM

Websites make money on advertisements.
If you don’t check out the ads it’s like sawing off the limb you’re sitting on.
Where’s the support?

From the news 3/5/2023

Illegal immigrant violently assaults and injures female border agent during arrest, CBP says

Why wasn’t the illegal criminal shot?
C’mon border patrol, you get physically assaulted and you don’t shoot?

We need agents with balls, not pansies that won’t shoot.

Anyone else see this?

The Fearless Spectator March 7, 2023 - 9:28 AM - 9:28 AM

Yes. Did anyone see the latest Walnut Creek Newsletter with a picture of their new Police Dog?
The article didn’t say anything about it however I suspect the dog has undergone proper sensitivity and diversity training.

‘Tesla that crashed into firetruck, killing the driver and critically injuring the passenger, was on autopilot at the time, investigation finds’

“The Tesla crashed into a firetruck in Walnut Creek, California on February 18”
dailymail https://tinyurl.com/43abb6wt

Exit 12A March 8, 2023 - 5:16 PM - 5:16 PM

.
At least 15 Teslas have crashed into emergency vehicles nationwide while using the autopilot feature. Countless other crashes have also been documented with autopilot engaged.
.
If it were one of the other vehicle manufacturers, a recall would have already been issued/mandated by NHTSA.
.
If NHTSA is a responsible agency, why haven’t they required Tesla to disable autopilot?
.
Stupidity reigns.

Original G March 8, 2023 - 9:23 PM - 9:23 PM

When writing control software person writing code expects standard set of conditions. It is least experienced user who finds flaws in programs.
.
A long ladder fire engine intentionally pulled across lanes at an angle as Safety blocker would be a very nonstandard condition.
.
Could in future have sensors on self driving vehicles to receive broadcasts from emergency vehicles, much like some traffic signals are set up to interrupt signals operation to give emergency vehicles a clear path by setting lights to green for vehicle and all others red.
.
Personally, over the years have seen how badly process control hardware and software can screw up. Self driving at present stage of development, aren’t taking me for a ride at freeway speeds.
