The following is from the Walnut Creek Police Department:

On July 3, at 1:21 p.m., a 911 caller reported a vehicle collided with a pedestrian on Ygnacio Valley Road, east of the intersection at Lennon Lane. Officers arrived and found a male pedestrian conscious, but with significant injuries.

Preliminary details indicated the driver’s vehicle drifted to the right, hopped the curb, and struck the pedestrian who was doing maintenance work at that location.

The driver of the vehicle was uninjured.

Officers and AMR personnel provided medical aid to the pedestrian before he was transported to the hospital. Unfortunately, the pedestrian later succumbed to his injuries.

The driver remained on scene and cooperated with responding officers. The cause of this accident is under investigation.

Poor guy just doing his job. I don’t think there is any excuse good enough for letting your car drift into the curb and killing someone. We only get one life. RIP

Agreed! you have one job to do while driving and that is to keep your eyes on the prize and drive. Unfortunately two lives lost here, one died and the other will never forgive themself and die inside….sad

Police refuse to enforce: cell phone, Tinted Windshields or Expired registrations……which is why this is such a problem.

Anon, you are spot on! I’ll still never understand why ANY officer of the law would not ticket vehicles they can’t even see into. Every vehicle with illegal window tint should be pulled over and the driver instructed to exit that vehicle with hands behind their head. After clearing, instant $500.00 fine and fix it ticket, if not resolved within 30 days slap another $500.00 fine on ’em. You wouldn’t see any more illegal tint after about 6 months.

Don’t be so quick to judge wait to there’s more info. It sounds like it was the driver’s fault, but could be a medical emergency. I’m always uncomfortable accusing someone of wrong doing before we have all the facts.

Hanne, maybe. Vehicles don’t jump curbs. Strongest odds suggest another dumb-a$$ distracted driver that will claim a “medical emergency” no matter how uncomfortable one may feel.

You might be right
Certainly if the driver was at fault he needs to be prosecuted. However, l still stand by my opinion that I’m uncomfortable accusing someone before we have all the facts. Guessing is okay, but judging and calling for someone’s head is not.

This accident occurred westbound between Lennon and I’m assuming N Wiget on YVR based on the East Bay Times report. That area is popular to walk among workers in the surrounding business park. Whenever possible I walk in the adjoining grassy area or parking lot vs the sidewalk out of fear of this happening. Sadly, this individual was doing his job in the grassy area when this incident occurred. Bless you, Sir and condolences to your family.

So Arck Marquez Ramirez, who committed a fatal hit-and-run collision in WC on Oct. 1, 2022, killing Chung Thuy “Tammy” Lee, is still awaiting trial. He has been charged with Gross Vehicular Manslaughter and Felony Hit and Run with Injury or Death. Next up on the court calendar for him is a Felony Readiness Conference, which is essentially a plea bargain hearing. Let’s keep and eye on this one and see if Arck gets off with a slap on the wrist, which is my guess. By comparison, at least this driver on Ygnacio stopped and didn’t flee the scene.

It Seems to me very, very few people know what the correct and safe speed to conduct a vehicle in a construction zone. Or, when roadside repairs are being performed, a safe distance to keep away from curbsides.
