I have to say I wasn’t happy with the 2024 GOP/RNC Presidential Debate format. First, these aren’t debates, they’re candidate forums. The Republican Party currently has 14 major party candidates running for the 2024 presidential nomination, this should’ve been a 2-night forum, with 6-candidates one night and 7-candidates the second night. Ryan Binkley, Larry Elder, Will Hurd, Perry Johnson, and Francis Suarez should’ve been able to participate.
Exposing the public to candidates, their ideas, and positions is a good thing for both parties and it’s a ratings winner for the networks that host these forums. The RNC requiring candidates to appear in polls with support, when all 14 candidates aren’t included in polling, isn’t a valid requirement, and requiring 40,000 donors, when wealthy candidates were sending donors gift cards ranging from $20.00 – $100.00 in value, in return for a donation of $1.00, is also not a valid requirement.
