My husband was catching up on some back issues of The Military Times. He was discussing with me about an article regarding PREPARDNESS. The article cited a ship that had a crew of approximately 1,000 saikors in Norfork, Virginia that was in drydock ( upkeep and maintenance). About 40% of the crewmembers were unable to do their assigned duties. According to the article the reason they could not perform the duties they were trained for were as follows: Mental Health Issues, Pregnancies, various physical ailments and substance abuse issues. My husband told me that when he served in the U.S.Navy in the 1970s, he said their ship averaged about 2-5% total of those issues with zero pregnacies because there were no women serving on his ship during that time. This is going to be an interesting time in our American Navy.
