Benicia police said Sunday they arrested an intoxicated driver this weekend after he crashed his vehicle into a power pole and ended up rolling the vehicle before it caught on fire.

Police said officers responded at about 3 p.m. Saturday to a report of a vehicle collision in the 2000 block of Lake Herman Road.

Police said the suspect was driving at a high speed when he lost control of the vehicle and sideswiped another car, then took out a power pole. The suspect vehicle came to a rest upside down off the side of the road before catching fire.

Ya see ? ? ?
That’s what happens when there’s no fire hydrant protection for power poles.

They did a fail. Incredible the accidents people can live through relatively unharmed. Engineers rule.

I’m glad that no one was killed and there’s no grieving families right now. Alcohol is one of the worst drugs and destroyers of lives and families that we’ve seen. And it’s so plentiful really available for us all isn’t it?

if you injure/hit someone driving under the influence it should be mandatory 20 years minimum no matter how minor the injury.

.
Question: Who is billed for replacement of the power pole? If insured, the driver’s insurance company?

In mid-October a drunk man must have passed out while driving. A neighbor heard the crash and found a man asleep on the ground next to his running SUV still in gear, Luckily he only crushed my garbage can and not the fence. Unfortunately for him the neighbor called the police and he got arrested for drunk driving and property damage. I can’t understand how someone could attempt to drive that drunk. Why didn’t his friends or the bartender stop him?
