Two men are enlisted into the army, given guns, and are told to shoot anyone seen after the 6 o’clock curfew. Sitting on a roof they see someone. Raising his rifle, one of the soldiers shoots the man. “What have you done!?” says his mate “it’s only 5:45”. “I know where he lives” says the other “He never would have made it home by 6 o’clock”

I was “randomly selected” to fill out a mandatory online census questionnaire from Uncle Sam. When I went to the website, it gave me a password to access the questionnaire, and asked a security question. So far, so good. Then I opened the questionnaire, and it said this would take 40 minutes! Being short on time, I closed out of the website. The next day I thought I’d try again, but I didn’t write down the password they sent me, so now I can’t get in.

Oh well, their loss…

Pick One:
.
A) Corned Beef
B) Pastrami
C) YUCK !

Captain Bebops December 16, 2023 - 9:41 AM - 9:41 AM

I liked both A and B when I ate beef. But I’ve also eaten turkey pastrami. Back in the 70’s my brother was running a restaurant and the pastrami they got from the restaurant supplier was turkey. That was because tests showed customers didn’t like the stringiness of the beef. Another friend who managed a chain pizza parlor at that time said the pepperoni was turkey because pork pepperoni was too greasy according to customers. Which is probably why it’s easy to get turkey pepperoni at the supermarket.

S December 17, 2023 - 7:24 AM - 7:24 AM

makes sense for the pizza….
not so sure for the pastrami…. not a fan of the turkey or yardbird in general, will go with ‘C’ on that.
🙂

Dawg December 16, 2023 - 9:49 AM - 9:49 AM

B) Pastrami, on rye or sourdough, with all the fixins.

Atticus Thraxx December 16, 2023 - 6:51 PM - 6:51 PM

B) Pastrami. But from Brooklyn. Specifically Flatbush . Specifically the Flatbush Deli. Specifically on Flatbush Ave.

Roz December 16, 2023 - 7:15 PM - 7:15 PM

Again!! I cannot choose, … I like both.
But if you want an awesome corn beef, for St. Patrick day, head to Costco.
Snake River Farms sell it there, at a good price.: http://www.snakeriverfarms.com

S December 17, 2023 - 7:19 AM - 7:19 AM

Thanks for the tip.
My kids do Costco, so maybe I’ll tag along sometime and check it out. The SRF website made my mouth water…..
.
I’ve still been unable to find unsliced Irish Bacon for the past few years; that’s a st patty’s day fav also…
.

The Wizard December 17, 2023 - 3:02 AM - 3:02 AM

A, it’s my Irish.

S December 17, 2023 - 7:11 AM - 7:11 AM

“B”
Like them both very much.
I do make my own homemade. “B” is my fav process ’cause I get to ‘Q’ it….

Hanne Jeppesen December 17, 2023 - 9:08 PM - 9:08 PM

Having lived in New York City for 4 years, and next to an excellent Jewish deli, l like both, probably corned beef a little better on Jewish rye mayo, mustard and dill pickles on the side.

Another damn PG&E outage – right after announcing a rate increase and right after announcing ANOTHER rate increase.

Riiiiiiight -,”leading with love.”

You can bet that Patti Poppe isn’t getting hit with these outages.

domo December 16, 2023 - 7:59 AM - 7:59 AM

… and the canned responses from PG&E … “bird strike” or “tree branch” ….. which did we use last week?

Glen223 December 16, 2023 - 3:33 PM - 3:33 PM

Well, the power went on around 8 am; then it’s off again at noon until 8 pm. Two outages in the same area within. 5-6 hours?

Wtf???????

Guess it’s time for PG&E to request ANOTHER rate increase. I swear, they’re making caltrans, the HSR and the CA government look good.

Bill December 16, 2023 - 7:15 AM - 7:15 AM

Do you have things around the house that you just never get time to fix or say I’ll fix it another day?

11
S December 16, 2023 - 9:18 AM - 9:18 AM

too many things…..
#1 on my list:
a vintage tube multi-band radio with separate Bandwidth & Band Spread knobs.
The string for the Spread wore and broke. I want to fix it by the time the grandkids are old enough to be introduced to the concept…..
.
Excellent question, Bill !!!
🙂
So, it would fit into the ‘Another Day’ category.

California Toad December 16, 2023 - 1:55 PM - 1:55 PM

Bravo, Bill – good question. Can’t answer it because the “honey-do” list runs into several notepads. Larger items would be painting the house, repairing fences, gates, etc. My favorite would be to finally get my aunt’s ancient cast iron cook stove, which she doesn’t want anymore, and install it…..somewhere. She’d fire it up for Thanksgiving and Christmas and bake all sorts of goodies – and it has a warming space for biscuits and the like.

Atticus Thraxx December 16, 2023 - 6:55 PM - 6:55 PM

I can’t have those things Bill. It’s like a compulsion. It either works, or is about to work, or I’m waiting on parts. I can’t even imagine living that way.
Yes, I’m divorced, if you’re wondering. 😝

Original G December 16, 2023 - 7:21 PM - 7:21 PM

You always want to have a few things that need fixing so
when wife mentions in passing, you can take care of it.
After all she is in control.
Happy wife,
Happy life !

Roz December 16, 2023 - 7:23 PM - 7:23 PM

I am in the too many to list, but I have been working on a lot this year.
Next year I know I will get to more completed, since Hubby is retiring, and 4 hands are better than two.

Chip December 16, 2023 - 8:13 AM - 8:13 AM

As I drive down Concord boulevard and around the main Post Office in Concord I’ve yet to see all these bicycles that they built these bike lanes for taking away lanes for cars. I don’t understand why they paid all the money to stripe the streets and it’s hardly being used.

Dawg December 16, 2023 - 2:15 PM - 2:15 PM

The bicyclists I see are usually riding on the sidewalk.

16
THE BLACK KNIGHT December 16, 2023 - 9:58 PM - 9:58 PM

CHIP,
.
It’s required by state law.

The Fearless Spectator December 17, 2023 - 9:22 AM - 9:22 AM

Whenever I see a guy riding a bicycle in that area, they are always holding on to a second unmanned bicycle.

THE BLACK KNIGHT December 18, 2023 - 4:14 PM - 4:14 PM

CHIP,
.
The Concord Bike Lobby also shows up to Concord City Council meetings to makes their voices heard, and the Concord City Council definetly listens to them.
.
Just wait for the same to be done to the Monument Boulevard – Galindo Street – Concord Avenue strip, as well as Clayton Road. They just added bike lanes to Meadow Lane, which has really narrowed vehicle travel lanes. It’s a mess! The worst is yet to come!!!
.
You can place blame for the “California Complete Streets Act” on our Democrat controlled State Legislature and former Republican Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger. The CCSA requires cities and counties to make certain roadways available to other modes of travel, other than single occupancy vehicle travel, when they’re repaved by adding sidewalks, and/or bike lanes, and/or carpool lanes, and/or bus lanes, and/or light rail lines, and/or mass transit lines, and/or commuter rail lines, and/or passenger rail lines. The addition of bike lanes appears to be the cheapest option. .
Funny, China is becoming more like us with the explosion of vehicle ownership and travel, while our California state government wants us to become more like 1970s and 1980s China by pushing us to adopt bicycles as our preferred mode of travel.
.
There have been several failed attempts to pass a similar bill in Congress. So, we’ve been lucky that we haven’t had a “National Complete Streets Act” foisted upon us! Although, Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg has committed to using his regulatory authority to “enact” the “Complete Streets” philosophy as a workaround of Congress failing to pass the law. We need to repeal the “Administrative Procedures Act,” which allows the forth branch of government, the unelected and unaccountable “administrative branch” to write regulations and rules instead of Congress. Congress has ceded to much of their authority and power to the executive branch, which has empowered the “administrative branch.”

@DR. JELLYFINGER….Svenhard’s used to have a great fruit cake but they’re not in business any longer. Amazon has a bunch of different brands and I saw on the search page that Walmart has fruit cakes and ingredients too.

I thought the City of Concord made a mess of Concord Boulevard but I now think they’ve made a bigger mess of Meadow Lane.
