Rains forecast in the San Francisco Bay Area this week will be lighter than what had been earlier projected, the National Weather Service said.
In an updated bulletin, the weather service said there will be a slight decrease in the expected rain totals at 1-3 inches for most areas, and a trend toward drier conditions will then be observed on Thursday.
But locally higher amounts of rain remain possible in the coastal ranges, and isolated thunderstorms are possible in the Bay Area and Central Coast Sunday and Monday, it said.
Today, rainfall will be experienced in the morning until early afternoon, and then later in the evening into Monday morning.
During the second window, the heaviest rain and strongest thunderstorms may be expected.
The light rain forecast for the Bay Area this Sunday is due to the outer rain bands associated with a gale force low pressure system that has stalled about 780 miles west-southwest of San Francisco, according to the weather service.
By Monday, gusty southerly winds are expected.
The weather service said nuisance roadway flooding remains the most likely impact during the rainy period.
Drier weather is forecast to return starting Friday.

But they’re absolutely, positively accurate about global warming/climate change – rising seas, temperature swings, melting glaciers, poor crop harvests, etc.

… oh I’m so surprised …. not weather forecasters can be wrong all the time and still keep their job … what other occupation can say that?

They can’t even get next week’s prediction right, but they expect us to believe climate change will destroy the world if we don’t go green.
At least we are getting more than a damping of the sidewalks.
We sure got a dose of it in the middle of the night with a lot of incredibly loud lightning and thunder that shook the house! It lasted about an hour with a heavy, HEAVY downpour of rain.
Rain was predicted. Rain arrived. Enjoy the rain.
Actually climate research learned a long time ago that clouds are impossible to predict what they will do. So until that is solved weather will be an educated guess.
