I could see the fire from my home off Port Chicago. I can see all of Concord from my living room. But was unsure of what area I was looking at. The flames were high. Was so relieved when I started hearing the Fire Trucks. Hope no one was hurt.

Is this the 2nd time for these to burn? If I remember right, these burned a few years back when construction first started….

The one that burned a few years back is on Willowpass & Galindo.
This is near City Hall which is by Hyde Paint on Willowpass.

VERRRRRRRRRY suspicious.

That looks like that could be that arsonist that set the other fires of condos/apartments in Concord and Oakland. I hope not. Good thing that know one was injured or killed. Hope they will soon find out the cause. Scary.

It probably was. I could have sworn they caught him a couple of years ago. Then again, he could have been one of the many dumped out on the streets because of COVID.

Krystle July 3, 2020 - 7:15 AM - 7:15 AM

Are these the same once that burned already?

It's A Me July 3, 2020 - 1:09 PM - 1:09 PM

They are not.
The ones prior were on Willow Pass & Galindo.
This is near City Hall.

Yes. As previously noted. Nearly every new construction of multiple dwellings gets set on fire in Concord. You would think by now the developers would hire security.

Sam July 3, 2020 - 7:20 AM - 7:20 AM

Somebody didn’t get the percentage they wanted. Dats what happens when you skimp on labor you get faulty wiring and what not.

Who is protecting these properties, because whatever security company these property builders are using should be fired and lose their licenses.

I really hope no one was injured.

The CCF folks did a great job putting this fire out.

The CPD folks did a great job keeping people safe.

All of our first responders are the very best.

Thank you to all of them for all the great things you all do.

Jay July 3, 2020 - 8:06 AM - 8:06 AM

So when are we gonna realize we have an arsonist on the loose in concord?

Bob Foo July 3, 2020 - 1:17 PM - 1:17 PM

I have serious doubts that it is a single individual committing these acts of arson.

Roz July 3, 2020 - 8:19 AM - 8:19 AM

No,…this is not the same building. These are the Townhomes, about a mile away on Willow Pass. The one that burned before are Condos closer to down down.

Hanne Jeppesen July 3, 2020 - 9:38 AM - 9:38 AM

Correct, not far from where I live, since I life off Willow Pass. The ones that burned before, which is closer to downtown Concord, by the Grocery Outlet where the ones that burned earlier, arson, and ever since they have a high wire security fence around them. Seems like it might be a good idea for all new construction in this area to have that.

Mutts July 3, 2020 - 11:32 AM - 11:32 AM

And less than 2 weeks ago the ones near Clayton and Farm Bureau burned, midway into construction.

Ricardoh July 3, 2020 - 9:37 AM - 9:37 AM

I thought they were going to have night watchmen at this type of construction site. Should have learned that lesson by now.

Didn’t this happen a few years ago in the same area ?

It's A Me July 3, 2020 - 1:10 PM - 1:10 PM

These are further down, near City Hall. The one you are thinking of is near the theater.

Tommy July 3, 2020 - 11:44 AM - 11:44 AM

There have been a lot of late night fireworks in the area of this fire, last night in particular. I wonder if one of those could have been the culprit. It’s only a matter of time before one of these lunatics sets the neighborhood on fire. Praise to the great men and women of the Fire Department for containing this one!

Bob Foo July 3, 2020 - 1:19 PM - 1:19 PM

Modern building materials don’t burn very well. I can’t imagine a firework having enough energy to start something there on fire with no accelerant…

Chris July 3, 2020 - 11:52 AM - 11:52 AM

There are many security cameras in that area. I’m sure the suspect was aware of this so we will likely see pictures in the very near future if it’s not considered racist of a male dressed in a hoodie and jeans, slender build riding a bike carrying a small pack pack.

Hanne Jeppesen July 3, 2020 - 1:05 PM - 1:05 PM

There were a video of someone, when the other condo’s by Grocery Outlet burned, it showed a white male looked to be middle age.

Lizzee July 3, 2020 - 5:37 PM - 5:37 PM

He was arrested a couple of months later. From what I remember, he installed flooring on new developments and was a pyromanic. None of the fires were set with any agenda.

I never heard anything about him after the arrest.

Debbie C July 3, 2020 - 1:44 PM - 1:44 PM

Where exactly was this fire? I saw nothing over there this morning on my walk

WC Resident July 3, 2020 - 5:09 PM - 5:09 PM

@Bob Foo – While modern building materials don’t burn very well construction sites sometimes have piles of leftover shipping material such as pallets and cardboard that ignite easily and burn very hot.

Two of the pictures show what looks like a thoroughly burned debris pile that burned the scaffolding that was above and with the fire getting into the interior of that part of the building.

There also appears to be a container in the debris pile. This could also be spontaneous combustion if there was sawdust plus leftover wood sticks in the container.

Original G July 3, 2020 - 5:13 PM - 5:13 PM

Curious, as to type of framing used in construction.
Anyone know are they using wood or steel studs ?

Aldridge Family July 3, 2020 - 9:05 PM - 9:05 PM

sounds like it labor unions or housing advocates at it again…an expose needs to be done on the other willow pass fire…

Wait a minute July 4, 2020 - 7:49 AM - 7:49 AM

Walking the BART trail and around north Concord, I’ve seen a suspicious number of lighter fluid bottles. Scary!
