I try to obey all laws. I try not to riot. I try not to Protest, Resist Arrest, Grab an officer’s gun, Fight the authorities, Burn, Loot, Murder, Rape, Pillage, Attila-The-Hunning and jay-walking. That about sums it up.

Kathy England September 24, 2020 - 12:12 PM - 12:12 PM

Compliment someone

Antler September 25, 2020 - 3:00 PM - 3:00 PM

Mayor, this is one of the best questions EVER!

I enjoy first accomplishing two small projects on my “to do” list, and then making phone calls to make appointments for getting on with the big projects.

Next comes the joy of reading email correspondence from friends, and of replying to those and also to others’ posts on Facebook, Private Messenger, text message and voice mail….. then tending to landmail business, and (with the 10 members of our extended family…. many Back East now) watching and making Marco Polo videos. Claycord’s Whatever column also is a must and I do feel close to (and actually know) many of you who kindly and intelligently trade thoughts on that thread.

And then Pandora, our Brittany “Mohican”, and I go out to play in the dirt or to wield pruning shears. I do miss going out on road trips and/or antique and nursery outings with friends. But it’s a blessing to be surrounded by love and friendship…. and to be emotionally close to so many who enjoy wishing one another “Happy Day!” and also saying “I love you!” to one another.

To Do List September 24, 2020 - 12:14 PM - 12:14 PM

If it’s not already obvious from my name, almost every day I create a “To Do” list of things to get done. This is a good way to make progress toward short and long run goals. Its important to not get too ambitious with these lists cause if you put the unachievable on it then it will be of no real value. Keep them for a few days and look back at them and see, Wow, I really got a lot of tasks accomplished.

Roz September 24, 2020 - 1:01 PM - 1:01 PM

To Do List ~
Yep,….I do too!
Sometimes it’s a ton of little things, or one project which takes 3 days. But feels great either way after it’s done.

Irene September 24, 2020 - 12:18 PM - 12:18 PM

Meditate.

Noj September 24, 2020 - 12:23 PM - 12:23 PM

Get up and make the bed and think about how grateful I am to be in the world.

JJ September 24, 2020 - 12:23 PM - 12:23 PM

Smile at people.
😁

JJ September 24, 2020 - 1:57 PM - 1:57 PM

Okay, it’s kind of hard to see a smile with a mask on.

But I always say please and thank you.

And love leaving a twenty in the tip jar when picking up less than $40 dollars of take-out food.

Ricardoh September 24, 2020 - 12:38 PM - 12:38 PM

Wake up every morning.

Dawg September 24, 2020 - 2:26 PM - 2:26 PM

Be nice, cordial, and polite to people, even if I don’t like them. My mother taught me to always show respect and say, “thank you.”

ilovepopcorn September 24, 2020 - 6:28 PM - 6:28 PM

That was great advice. I will try to do that. Not easy in traffic or on Facebook.

Original G September 24, 2020 - 2:31 PM - 2:31 PM

Listen
Often simple act of listening, letting another know their ideas, concerns and thoughts are valued. At time could call it
de-orbiting of someone who’s stressed or agitated.

Tell my guys at work there are no bad ideas, there are some that won’t work but your idea might give another an idea they haven’t thought of yet. Be flexible, a plan could change 4 or more times before we’re done. Everyone’s input is valuable.

An nobody keeps score, it’s about keeping place running, keeping each other Safe and having fun. An remembering WORK is after all a four letter word, it shouldn’t be hard.
Keep reminding myself of that after a few days of running conduit and pulling new control wiring.

An there’s a few people ya just have to set aside at least a half hour, but they’re worth it and they need to vent.

I’ve been watching reruns of American Chopper lately which I consider positive and wholesome entertainment.

Anon September 24, 2020 - 9:21 PM - 9:21 PM

Something I always do daily, is pray. Our country and the planet need it!!!!!

Mimi (original) September 24, 2020 - 11:17 PM - 11:17 PM

I don’t have to try, I’m just pleasant, kind, positive, and friendly every morning and for the rest of the day. Acquaintances who I’ve encountered only every so often over the years continue to say, even as I age, “you still have the nicest smile!” That warms my heart.

FPN September 25, 2020 - 12:34 PM - 12:34 PM

Mary Fouts, That’s lovely.

My most positive thing I do everyday is not turn on the TV.
I always have a positive attitude because I don’t give a rat’s ass what’s going on around me or anywhere else in the world.

Recently subbed to The Great Courses Plus on the Roku. It’s nice to have a plethora of interesting topics for my brain to chew on. I think I have about 40+ classes on an array of topics watchlisted now. I’d forgotten what it was like to have tons of new information (to me, anyway) available.

The ancient history classes are top notch. So far, I’ve loved the classes on Meso and North American civilizations and Mesopotamia. Am currently watching series about the psychology of colors and South American ancient civilizations. It’s amazing how much the archaeological landscape has changed since I first became fascinated by the Mayans in an art history class I took in 1991.

Random fact: every human language develops words for colors in the same sequence. Black and white > red > yellow > green > blue.
