Some Counties, Including Contra Costa, Could Move Into More Restrictive Tiers Amid COVID-19 Increase

California’s rate of positive coronavirus tests has increased over the last three weeks, possibly portending the next wave of the pandemic, Gov. Gavin Newsom said Monday.

The state’s 14-day positivity rate has risen from 2.5 on Oct. 19 to 3.7 Monday, according to Newsom. Likewise, the number of coronavirus patients within the state’s hospital system has risen by nearly 29 percent over the last two weeks.

Those increases also come as the state continues to ramp up its testing capacity, as California is now averaging nearly 144,000 coronavirus tests per day.

While the state has fortified its stocks of personal protective equipment, ventilators and intensive care unit beds in anticipation of the pandemic’s next wave, Newsom said the recent case and hospitalization increases should be sobering for all residents of the state.

“We’re starting to see people take down their guard, take off their masks, begin to mix outside their households,” Newsom said. “We’ve seen some early indication related to Halloween. I’m very sober about that and
that’s what I was elected to focus on.”

The effects of the statewide increase in new cases are expected to trickle down to the county level and affect which businesses can reopen when the state modifies its pandemic reopening tier assignments on Tuesday.

A total of 10 counties are in the “purple tier,” the most restrictive section of the state’s four-tiered reopening system.

The next two tiers, red and orange, include 20 and 19 counties, respectively, including much of the greater Bay Area. The least-restrictive yellow tier includes only nine counties, including San Francisco County.

Newsom said he expected to see multiple counties move into more restrictive tiers this week.

“This is exactly why we designed the tier status the way we did,” Newsom said. “It was about being more and less restrictive, not based upon political whim, but based upon the data, based upon the epidemiology, based upon the facts on the ground… the tier system is working as it was designed.”

💥Coming out of the woodwork from all corners
SALEM, Ore. (AP) — Oregon’s elections director was abruptly fired in a text message by the secretary of state after he pointed out serious issues with the state’s aging and vulnerable technology for running elections.

Gavin Newsom can put his bs on hold until we have our votes counted in California. He was already told by a judge his emergency declaration was unconstitutional. He has a restraining order on him. If he moves to violate our rights against a judges orders he should be arrested.

Sam November 9, 2020 - 7:39 PM - 7:39 PM

💥Orange County has just announced that it will conduct a voluntary audit of its 2020 presidential election ballots to ensure the integrity of results (Los Angeles Times).

And it all comes tumbling down.

wipe November 10, 2020 - 7:49 AM - 7:49 AM

The emergency order was subsequently adopred by the legislative branch, so it really changed nothing. It is not like the Governor was told no new emergency orders. He was just told that emergency orders can’t change statutes which is true of all emergency and executive orders.

LL Cool J November 10, 2020 - 9:12 AM - 9:12 AM

@Sam, I would love to see an audit of all counties. I bet there would be some surprises. A LOT of folks have walked away from the Dems and I would be the numbers for Biden are MUCH lower than stated.

The Fearless Spectator November 9, 2020 - 7:01 PM - 7:01 PM

The tier system was designed to bankrupt as many hardworking business owners as possible. Therefore it’s working as planned. Destroy it, and build back for racial equity. Nobody cares about equality once they have equity.

Leoclown November 9, 2020 - 8:20 PM - 8:20 PM

Yep, my wife’s small business in concord may not survive thanks to the having to move outside. Between fighting off the homeless population who harass the clients (female) and the neighbors constantly threatening and disturbing the clients due to the “noise” from being forced outside, it’s looking more and more like we’re gonna shutter. Heartbreaking.

JazzMan November 9, 2020 - 7:10 PM - 7:10 PM

C’mon people! Do the right thing (mask up, social distancing, etc). You can’t let your guard down! It’s simple.

Sam November 9, 2020 - 8:00 PM - 8:00 PM

Chatbot much?

Dorothy November 9, 2020 - 8:11 PM - 8:11 PM

Don’t be so reasonable. It interferes with their right to be exposed to diseases and pass them on to others.

Sam November 9, 2020 - 8:39 PM - 8:39 PM

@Dorothy
If you can legally give me AIDS, I can legally give you a cold virus.

ZZ November 9, 2020 - 8:58 PM - 8:58 PM

Pull yourself together! Stop living in fear!

Chuq November 10, 2020 - 6:13 AM - 6:13 AM

Living in fear? Do you wear a seat belt ZZ?

wipe November 10, 2020 - 7:56 AM - 7:56 AM

@Sam ignotqnce is bliss. No one can give anyone AIDS, as it is a syndrome (clinucal presentation of 3 or more condtions commonly assoicated with the viral infection) caused by the virus HIV. Someone can transmit HIV to another and if done so knowingly and intentiinally it is a felcny. So no you cant knowingly and willfully infect others with a deadly virus.

LL Cool J November 10, 2020 - 9:17 AM - 9:17 AM

JazzMan,

Are you REALLY afraid of a virus that has a 99.3+\-% survival rate?

Or are you such a sheep you are willing to give up your rights because you think the Dictator will give them back to you if “we all just cooperate?”

Either way, you need to wake up and take the red pill. People with your kind of thinking are the reason America has become weak.

Did you know our Founding Fathers fought for the freedom of this country during a pandemic. They fought through the worst possible conditions. And you sit there hiding in fear from either a virus, a dictator, or both? Please move to China. Sounds like you’ll like it there.

Now Anthony Fauci is finally admitting to the inaccurate results from the PCR test when ran on too many “cycles”.

As reported by yours truly 4 months ago. So now Fraud Fauci wants to come clean on the PCR testing cycles..

“We’re starting to see people take down their guard, take off their masks, begin to mix outside their households,” Newsom said. “We’ve seen some early indication related to Halloween. I’m very sober about that and

Doesn’t this make it sound like he knew Covid-19 was coming when he was elected? Even though it was well prior. Sounds like a Freudian slip?

Simonpure November 10, 2020 - 7:45 AM - 7:45 AM

Oh my gosh Auntie…you made me spit out my coffee 🙂

The Fearless Spectator November 10, 2020 - 9:04 AM - 9:04 AM

Newsom performs a lot of jobs, but great isn’t one of them.

He puts his personal agenda and politics above all else. He is not especially concerned with destroying people’s finances; that’s just minor collateral damage. For Newsom, Covid has been the biggest political gift he could have wished for.

If there is a hell, it waits for this guy.

Chuq November 9, 2020 - 9:12 PM - 9:12 PM

That’s just silly, have you seen the map of California counties? We resoundingly voted for Biden.

I thought there was only 1.3 million people in the county so how are they doing 144000 tests per day?

It’s California that’s averaging that many tests per day, not just the this County.

Frustrated November 10, 2020 - 6:20 AM - 6:20 AM

For those protesting wearing masks or against Newsome, WHY would any government official want to shut down businesses, losing money for people and revenue for the states if they didn’t believe there virus has serious repercussions?

The rules are simple… Wear a mask, social distance, wash your hands! It’s not that complicated!!! The majority of those complaining are most likely making conscious choices to not follow the few things asked of us to do!

Law Abiding Citizen November 10, 2020 - 9:08 AM - 9:08 AM

To impoverish the people, create desperation, and drive the people toward radical ideas like socialism.

Every virus has repercussions. This one is being used as means to an end.

Cranky Taco November 10, 2020 - 11:47 AM - 11:47 AM

If you are scared, stay home. Just because we disagree with the dictator Gavin, doesn’t mean we don’t obey the mandates he has brought down that enable me to go to Macy’s or Safeway or the liquor store! Obey obey obey,

Sam November 10, 2020 - 12:10 PM - 12:10 PM

@Frustrated
It’s complicated for me. I lose depth perception when walking and I run into things. Masks make it difficult to breathe and I get a headache after about 5 minutes from the pressure on my ears or back of head. I do wish I could do what they are asking, however I never listen to anyone because I’m free.

Gittyup November 11, 2020 - 5:35 AM - 5:35 AM

When I went to put on a fresh mask the other day, a small printed sheet in both English and Chinese fell out of the package. I knew the masks were made in China, but I had not seen the little printed sheet before. I sat down today and read it.

I specifically sought out N95 masks because it was widely reported in the media months ago that they were more effective against Covid-19 than the 3M surgical masks I already had. At $30.00 for a package of 10 masks, I thought this was a little excessive, but I am in several high risk groups, so I decided it had to do it. It clearly states in the smallest printing ever on the sheet that fell out of the bag that the mask is “Not for medical use.” So what are we wearing them for? This mask, the N95, was supposed to be the best disposable mask available for use against Covid-19. What does it say about all the homemade varieties of masks out there if the N95 is “Not for medical use.”

As a one-time use, disposable mask, the cost if worn daily would be roughly somewhere in the range of $100 a month. Who can afford that? Especially if they are working fewer hours during the pandemic, or they are woking the drive-thru at the local fast food chain. Something is really haywire with the thinking of those in the medical profession advising us, and Newsom in backing them up, if they think masks are doing any good. They need to read the fine print, and consider the cost as a factor in noncompliance.

Honestly, I have come to believe that the billions Newsom spent on masks he bought from the Chinese are the same ones we are being forced to buy and wear on a daily basis making money for the State of California at $30 a pop for 10 crummy “Not for medical use” masks in some bizarre money-making scheme Newsom and his cronies dreamed up.. I can see them laughing and back skapping each other about what a perfect scam it is to be requiring the masks, and selling them, all at the same time.

Frustrated November 10, 2020 - 6:30 AM - 6:30 AM

@DB Daily testing is 144,000

Jacknife925 November 10, 2020 - 7:00 AM - 7:00 AM

Stop testing the number will go down!!!!!

Wipe November 10, 2020 - 8:00 AM - 8:00 AM

@chris. How about you get your proud boys and bugaloo boys to do the same. Have them pay for the funeral expenses for the guard they shot in Oakland.

Cranky Taco November 10, 2020 - 11:43 AM - 11:43 AM

Remember being able to back up his threats with “actual” #’s? Grewsome is a TYRANT! How can we possibly sit quietly and keep believing all of his self serving exaggerations? The masks don’t protect you and if you are living in fear, are you really alive?

The Fearless Spectator November 10, 2020 - 12:45 PM - 12:45 PM

Obviously Blue. As Bernie Sanders said, “Democrat is the party of the coastal elite”.

Original G November 10, 2020 - 1:09 PM - 1:09 PM

Have had to work all thru this, driving back from work have seen a steady increase in number of people out and about. Pass a park with large closed sign and locked access gates being well used on the weekends.

Big box hardware stores have no shortage of customers. Have four neighbors with pools, this summer there were extra cars, multiple families with children several times a week all day plus and BBQs into the night.

As time goes on expect edicts to be ignored with increasing frequency.

Kay November 10, 2020 - 11:18 PM - 11:18 PM

Show me body bags… then I may believe some one. Newsom is just a bull shister…. its all drama… im so done with the mind control. Masks are to silence the people. They do nothing unless you are sick.
