Aunt Barbara April 16, 2021 - 10:27 PM - 10:27 PM

ex security guard who ate too many Red Robin burgers and Mrs. Fields cookies on his breaks.

Bobo April 16, 2021 - 10:39 PM - 10:39 PM

Probably ran out of gas on his way back to Oakland.

K April 18, 2021 - 9:00 AM - 9:00 AM

Nope, he went to where he was familiar. Nice try though.

ClayDen April 16, 2021 - 11:00 PM - 11:00 PM

We were having dinner at Uncle Yu’s in Lafayette this evening when a Moraga Police car went flying by from 24 in that direction with his siren on. I guess I know why now.

What time did this happened? I worked at Macy’s from 11 a.m. to 7:45 P.M. never heard a thing.

LeisMommy April 17, 2021 - 12:55 PM - 12:55 PM

Between 6:50pm-7:15pm Roughly in the Breezeway/waiting area of Red Robin. Commotion began outside Macy’s. My family evacuated Red Robin through the kitchen at this time.

why is the gun “going off” part of the story? shouldn’t’ it just be a shoplifter was arrested, unless someone wants to point out the evil of guns (which isn’t true guns are inanimate objects, people kill people) plus passing more laws only hurts law abiding citizens abilities to protect themselves as criminals, by definition, don’t follow the law.

dbcoop April 17, 2021 - 9:36 AM - 9:36 AM

The ” gun going off ” is the reason they got arrested , Shoplifting is not a crime in CA as long as you keep it under $ 950

Janus April 17, 2021 - 10:57 AM - 10:57 AM

You are really incapable of seeing how being armed during the commission of a crime and then the firing of suspect’s gun is not newsworthy?!?

Should the news report murder as just a battery?

LeisMommy April 17, 2021 - 12:59 PM - 12:59 PM

The gun going off is significant because there were alot of innocent people around during this time including children. This includes my family, I have a 2 year old and a sister who is 15 weeks pregnant. Someone could have been seriously injured. The restaurant and areas of the mall near the incident were evacuated. The gun going off as you put it, is the whole reason the person was found and arrested.

The Masked (and gloved) Poster April 17, 2021 - 8:03 AM - 8:03 AM

The gun “went off” all by itself? No one pulled the trigger?

Plinko April 17, 2021 - 9:31 AM - 9:31 AM

Lol…I know, right? “Went off” could mean a lot of different things. My wife “went off” on me for coming home late. My car “went off” the road. Circling the sewer these days.

stoptheinsanity April 17, 2021 - 1:25 PM - 1:25 PM

A couple years ago an FBI agent was doing some wild dancing (back flips I believe) at a wedding and his gun went off, accidentally. I presume this perp was not doing back flips while shoplifting though.

HappyPappy April 17, 2021 - 8:31 AM - 8:31 AM

Who remembers the days when this NEVER HAPPENED at the mall? It was a safe and friendly conservative “family first” place then.
What changed? Anyone want to guess?

Badge1104 April 17, 2021 - 1:49 PM - 1:49 PM

Happy-Pappy: I remember! I miss those days dearly. And it hurts me very much to think that those days are forever gone replaced by a new ‘woke society’ (led by Joe Biden and Kamala Harris) who will forever change this country to an awful place.
Just two days ago a BLM mob spray painted kill police, BLM and death to America on 47 businesses in downtown Walnut Creek. What made me even matter was the next day there were a bunch of people that said they supported this because Walnut Creek needs to wake up. Friends I have very little hope that this country will stay intact. And what a future living under the tyrancy of mob rule or possibly that’s when Russia or China will come in and take over. Are you Democratic voters are to blame. You better wake up as to what your party really is doing.

K April 18, 2021 - 9:03 AM - 9:03 AM

This event has nothing to do with Biden, Harris or BLM. To say that you are reaching would be an understatement.

Bean Burner April 17, 2021 - 8:47 AM - 8:47 AM

too bad the gun wasnt pointed at his sack…

Alleycat April 17, 2021 - 4:03 PM - 4:03 PM

Hahahaha

PO'd April 17, 2021 - 8:58 AM - 8:58 AM

Picture yet? Becton probably won’t release.

Lottlebirdtweets April 17, 2021 - 9:01 AM - 9:01 AM

My kid was there and the gun portion going off was really frightening, he saw the fight first break out between two people and they decided to turn and walk away. Which is when the gun went off and then people were running after that.

Jeff April 18, 2021 - 8:32 AM - 8:32 AM

Glad your child was smart and walked away……….good parenting!!!!

WC April 17, 2021 - 9:28 AM - 9:28 AM

Probably a Glock-type pistol with a trigger safety that should be in a holster that protects the trigger. No holster and it went off in his pocket/waisband. At least he didn’t get “Glock Leg.”

Jeff April 18, 2021 - 8:30 AM - 8:30 AM

WC,

You have absolutely no idea what you are talking about. Some guns have safeties, some do not. Those that don’t usually have very strong trigger pulls, there is never an “accident” when one goes off.

Cellophane April 17, 2021 - 10:50 AM - 10:50 AM

“Gun goes off”.

Either the trigger was pulled on purpose or accidentally, or the gun was dropped/thrown in such a manner as a discharge was forced.

The gun itself did nothing, someone had to take specific action of force the discharge.

You can’t blame a hammer for falling on your toe.

You can’t blame a gun for firing.

redrazor April 17, 2021 - 11:03 AM - 11:03 AM

Yikes!?!? Actually; my gun went off about 50 times yesterday as well. I was at the shooting range breaking in my new anti-home invasion mechanism.

Bitterman April 17, 2021 - 1:54 PM - 1:54 PM

Seems fleeing from the police is very common these days…? One might think all these bloods getting shot while “running” from the police would be a wake up call, clearly stupid is as stupid does.

K April 18, 2021 - 9:06 AM - 9:06 AM

Who are the “bloods” that you speak of? Can you be more specific?

BOB April 17, 2021 - 4:44 PM - 4:44 PM

I guess I can put Sun Valley with Hilltop as places not to go.

Am glad online shopping is still somewhat safe.

Aunt Barbara April 17, 2021 - 6:29 PM - 6:29 PM

You will only get your life savings and identity stolen online.
]Then perhaps your packages left at the door. ISN’T LIFE GRAND?

chuckie the troll April 18, 2021 - 12:22 PM - 12:22 PM

If the perp didn’t intend to discharge the gun, then what?

If you carry a gun without a concealed carry permit you have broken the law. Pulling that weapon out in a crowded environment should net an additional charge. Discharging said weapon still another. There are plenty of laws on the books that can be used to put this idiot in prison. Too bad that the current D.A. is an even bigger idiot!
