BART officials Friday morning reported major delays systemwide and no transbay service as crews work on track repairs in downtown Oakland.

Officials reported Friday at 5:43 a.m. there is currently no Red Line or Green Line BART service.

Earlier, officials reported BART was temporarily suspending transbay service due to the emergency track repairs.

Officials are recommending riders seek alternate transportation if they need to travel across the San Francisco Bay.

Officials said AC transit is providing bus service to San Francisco on bus NL from 19th Street and Broadway in Oakland.

Crews were working to repair a damaged section of the third rail of the track in an underground section in downtown Oakland.

BART has not released information on when the track repairs would be completed or when normal service would resume.

Despite Billions of additional funding BART still can’t do their job… we need to defund them starting with salary cuts and re-negotiate the lucrative contracts with their unions. Then put that $$ to other transportation projects.

.. to add… seems it was caused by their own incompetence – their own employee… should be suspended or fired – will they? doubt it…. also BART wouldn’t provide their own spokesperson on air to explain their screw-up …. typical

@domo Why do you want to hurt people and families financially.. cutting pay for workers who are just trying to support their families, that doesn’t seem right does it? I’d never wish for anyone’s pay to be cut especially when children depend on them to provide.

imho – they’re overpaid for the job they deliver – or…. you could hold them to a higher standard.. like the rest of us – I like that better – thanks.

@domo Everyone thinks everyone is over paid unless they make less than than them. If you have a shi*t job that’s your fault. If they have a good job, they succeeded. Maybe your pay should be cut? I vote yes. Tell your family Christmas gonna be a little different this year, and start driving Uber on weekends.

How much should each position at BART pay?

Here is a pay schedule. Cross reference position description and qualification requirements. Compare to private sector salaries. To me that is the only way to determine if someones pay is in alignment.

Cutting salaries will mean qualified and experienced employees will leave. I’m not interested in service degrading further because of institutional inexperience.

I think transportation problems we see (fix our roads) are due to aged infrastructure and end of useful service life. Bart is included with constant service delays and equipment downtime. Maybe some of the design and engineering choices are not keeping up.

Electrician wages are in line with what UNION industrial electricians earn.
Pay is due to limited employee pool having that specialized and unique skill set.
CA’s educational k-12 system doesn’t turn out a large number of graduates capable of logical thought process, ability to problem solve and tenacity to not give up.

This is not surprising for a system that has prioritized salary and benefits at the expense of capital improvements.
