The Water Cooler – Going Out To Eat – How Much Has It Gone Up For You?

The “Water Cooler” is a feature on Claycord.com where we ask you a question or provide a topic, and you talk about it.

The “Water Cooler” will be up Monday-Friday in the noon hour.

If you go out to eat on a somewhat regular basis (at least once a week), you’ve probably noticed the price has gone WAY up.

QUESTION: Have you noticed an increase in the price of food when you go out to eat, and if so, how much has your favorite restaurant gone up in price compared to a few years ago?

Talk about it.

Have they? I feel like DoorDash prices have risen too high so I just drive and pick things up instead to save half the cost.

Three years ago, Taco Tuesday was $1/each. Now it is $1.75/each. In the same period, taco went from $3/each to $3.50/each

Two days ago stopped at Jack in the box on Clayton rd and bought a Bacon double cheeseburger (sandwich only) and it was $9….. ouch, won’t do that again.

…. Burger King on Clayton at YVR – $8.50 for fish sandwich only ….. no more

We just stopped going out. Smaller portions, more expensive, mediocre food, worse service. What’s the point?

I won’t even return to the fast food places that ask you for a tip at checkout. I went to the frozen yogurt place next to Rocco’s last year and after I filled my cup up, sprinkled on my selected toppings and arrived at the register, the ipad asked me if I’d like to leave a tip as the disinterested teen stared at me. FOR WHAT? Because you drew a few breaths while I was in the store?

Haven’t been back, won’t go back.

Don’t go out to eat any more. Feel bad for restaurant employees but California economy just blew up in everyone’s face. Even picking up to go food I get the pressure to leave a tip. Sorry again. Hate to say it but the economy could use some more stimulus payments to get it rolling.

Stimulus is why the prices spiked in the first place…..false economy.

If someone else is cooking, and I am hungry. My wallet doesn’t mind.
Cheesesteak anyone?

Two of us went out to lunch at a nice little restaurant near Todos Santos, and the tab was $75.00, the last time we went there it was about $30.00 for lunch for two. Good food, and lots of it, but after leaving a tip, ouch! A couple of months ago, six of us went out for lunch in Marin County and the tab was $180.00, which isn’t bad for a party of six, and since Marin is more affluent than Contra Costa, I was surprised.

Minimum wage mandates from His Hairness will continue to shut down fast food restaurants in CA.

For what it costs for dinner at most restaurants I could feed myself at home for half of a week. So I don’t dine out unless someone else is picking up the tab. Inflation and feel good mandatory wage increases will soon close most restaurants. I think it was the plan all along and then the government will feed you their mandated “food(?)”. 😲

I stopped paying attention to the costs. We limited going out to eat long ago, then, during the chinese bat flu pandemic, we started eating out (ordering in?) more, to help these places stay on an earning basis. I have to admit, I think paying anything for restaurant food is overpriced, but that is just me, and I have no idea what is now considered expensive. I mean, Ruth’s Chris, forget it, no chance. I think places like Jack’s in PH is expensive, but that is again, because I think all restaurants are expensive, but I guess I do not stress about the bill.

Just went to Ruth’s Chris. Enjoyed the food and service was excellent. I would say prices have doubled to eat out anywhere you go

Exit 12A February 5, 2024 - 4:44 PM - 4:44 PM

Yes. We limit take-out since prices have gone up at least 25 percent.

And Newsom’s $20 minimum wage hasnt kicked in yet.

Wait til robots take over some fast food jobs.

I’m with STOVE….. rarely go out anymore, and I flat out refuse to do fast food!
If they go out of biz too bad, but it isn’t my fault!

A $7 burrito has now gone up to $13

domo February 6, 2024 - 7:43 AM - 7:43 AM

Fast Food now within range of a medium priced restaurant – no more

garbear February 6, 2024 - 8:16 AM - 8:16 AM

Just wait until April, when the new $20 MINIMUM FAST FOOD WAGE GOES INTO EFFET… Which will also force others to raise their minimums to keep up. Of course, everything will have to go up in cost to offset the wage increase, hence more inflation.

I rarely eat fast food but have been hankering for an #2 at In and Out. I hadn’t had one for 4 or 5 years but was surprised it was just under $9 after hearing these horror stories. What bummed me out was the taste has diminished since my last visit. Maybe it’s just me but was pretty disappointed. Maybe should have had a couple of bong hits before I went. Back to my homemade burger and fries, they don’t disappoint.
