The Water Cooler – Police Using Military Equipment

by CLAYCORD.com
26 comments

The “Water Cooler” is a feature on Claycord.com where we ask you a question or provide a topic, and you talk about it.

The “Water Cooler” will be up Monday-Friday in the noon hour.

QUESTION: Do you think police should have access to all the equipment they can get their hands on to keep them and the public safe, or do you think they should stay away from using military equipment such as armored vehicles and specialized weapons?

Talk about it.

you’ve seen the stuff bad guys have… give the police what they need, not what you think they need

If police were hired from within the community that they worked, they wouldn’t need to equip themselves like an occupying army.

And where exactly do you think the candidates come from, Mars?

When fighting crime, the police should have the necessary equipment to achieve their objective.

You can’t bring a knife to a gun fight. Why should the bad guys have an advantage?

The police should have those resources available, but should use them prudently and when truly warranted.

Do I get to defend myself from the bad guys with military weaponry too? When seconds count, police are only minutes away (if they show up at all nowadays)

No military equipments should be used on civilians.

If the bud guy has an AK47 automatic, the police should just use a bow and arrow, ok Paul.

Police vs. an armed criminal should never be a “fair fight.”

So Paul, how do you define civilians?

Do we treat a criminal the same way as a law-abiding individual?

See, if you brandish a weapon at a law enforcement individual, that law enforcement individual should be allowed to brandish a BIGGER weapon at you. You do not get to plead, innocent until proven guilty in a court of law when you are pointing a gun at law enforcement. Once you do that, you are guilty.

I say we draw the line at MANPADS I don’t believe the police need to shoot down aircraft.
Grenades are OK but anti tank weapons…… those are kinda borderline……. but they sure would end a fight in a hurry.

Asking men and women to go out there and put themselves between us and evil with .38 SPC revolvers and patent leather shoes is a no-go.
But I also don’t want to see them dressed in full blown tactical with everything from the Mall Ninja store. Including throwing stars. ⭐️ 😝

Local communities are not battlefields and local police should not have the mindset of a military unit. Military force weapons are a lethal menace to neighborhoods. Police should have the equipment they need but not tanks and military equipment.
The comedy here is so many posters on Claycord complain about the government using the legal system against Trump but still believe the government would only have local police use military equipment on “criminals” and never be used as inappropriate force against a political opponent or dissenter. Good luck with that.

Hope…. if I understand you correctly (and I’m certain I don’t) you believe that we don’t believe that believing Police need military weapons that they’d never use on political opponents or dissenters is a mindset that Police would have and use inappropriately and it would be comical if so many posters on Claycord complained about it.
That about right?

Hope

I appreciate your optimistic view, but unfortunately our local communities are battlefields. Look at the drive by shooting that occur on the Bay Area freeways, or the shootouts at the local schools, … these are battlefields. I agree there should be a limit to what Police carry, no tanks great, but an Armored Personnel Carrier can be utilized to remove unarmed hostages from a scene or bring a tactical unit in closer to neutralize the target(s). Also, no vehicle mounted machine guns, but handing the police a Mk20, M24 or M39, absolutley because that can be used to neutralize a target(s) from a distance.

Personally I would like to see the local police acquire water cannons for their vehicles to help clean the street of protestors, but that is going way to far in this liberal area. They could die the water with something that will ‘mark’ the protestors for 24 hours, so that they can be more easily found.

Political persecution and violent criminal persecution are two different things.

Not sure what the “specialized” weapons are, and vehicles, I have seen the SWAT like vehicles, which probably get more use at parades and festivals. What I see mostly is military style body armor/uniform accessories. I am glad our local law enforcement agencies have these. We average American citizens should also be able to have these, in the event we have to use them (well, maybe not the armored vehicle, as fun as that would be).

American Citizen March 14, 2024 - 11:41 AM - 11:41 AM

Why can’t we get HK rifles or select fire rifles to defend ourselves? Criminals have them, PD has them but honest citizens who are trained don’t get them. We have to fight tooth and nail just for a concealed carry permit.

Angry American March 14, 2024 - 1:39 PM - 1:39 PM

Police should have the weapons and training to be superior to the bad guy period. They should not be at a disadvantage or they will lose and when they lose so do the citizens. I would love to live in a world of imagination where everyone is good and conflicts could be resolved with friendly words and a smile but that is not how it is. The citizens are prey for the monsters out there and the police are the only thing that stands in their way. Some of us will protect ourselves but would rather it not come to that so if we don’t want the crap to happen like you see over the border or in places like Haiti then arm our Police.
