San Francisco District Attorney Brooke Jenkins said 26 people who were arrested on Monday for shutting down the Golden Gate Bridge while protesting Israel’s war in Gaza will be released without charges while an investigation into potential charges continues.
The 26 were arrested by California Highway Patrol officers after blocking traffic for several hours starting at 8:30 a.m. Monday.
They were booked on multiple misdemeanors and a potential felony conspiracy charge, but Jenkins said she was not ready to make the final charging decision before the 24-hour deadline to charge or release expired at 4 p.m. Tuesday.
“That timeline has not given the CHP enough time to complete their investigation into the 26 individuals arrested at this one event and gather all of the evidence required for us to evaluate and make proper charging decisions for each person at this time,” Jenkins said.
The action was part of coordinated protests in multiple cities around the nation, including in Oakland, where protesters blocked Interstate Highway 880. Protesters said they were targeting the global economy in response to the ongoing war.
Jenkins said the protest was not covered by the First Amendment.
“While we must protest avenues for free speech, the exercise of free speech cannot compromise public safety,” she said.

J6 prosecutors had a rough time in front of SCOTUS yesterday.
J6 insurrectionists are in jail for good reason. They broke the law. They were tried and convicted. They are now paying their debt to society.
To bad they don’t do the same to all who break the law.
These people broke the law too. It is unlawful to obstruct a roadway. I’m sure prosecutors will have your full support in prosecuting these criminals, correct?

This attack on our local roadways was planned. It was coordinated. Could you not see that multiple roadways were blocked by these little domestic terrorists? For those of you that want to challenge the ‘deomestic terrorist’ reference, here is the definition used by all Law Enforcement Agencies in the United States, “Domestic terrorism: Violent, criminal acts committed by individuals and/or groups to further ideological goals stemming from domestic influences, such as those of a political, religious, social, racial, or environmental nature.”
Was this criminal? Yes, it was … even Jenkins said it was not protected by the 1st Amendment.
Did this attempt to further an idelogical goal? Yes, something to do with Gaza …
Will they be charged by the loser DA Jenkins, absolutley not.
Just release their names and mugshots and let the people who got stuck in traffic that day take care of the rest. People are fed up with this carp.
Make them pay for everything they caused – law enforcement deployments, employee time spent arresting, booking, and housing them, and the removal of everything they used to block traffic, at the very least.
The were not only caught in the act, but also themselves stated that they, “were targeting the global economy”. They even publicly coordinated the protests days before they happened.
Any claim that 24 hours (after the arrest) was not sufficient time to gather evidence is a bald faced lie.
Of course, I can’t really say that I’m surprised that this is how the government is handling this.
Go ahead and release them just give us the names. Thank you.
