I suggest you re-read the bill. The author neglected to specify the funding source for the longer sentences. Along with nothing appropriated to build the additional rehab facilities needed,, or hire and train staff.
Personally, I did not vote for this bill simply due to the vague language around what would receive these longer sentences. That is never a good sign when it comes to legislation.

The job numbers weren’t bad, but they were announced before the tariffs were. If April’s job numbers aren’t a complete disaster, I will come back and eat crow. Businesses hate uncertainty and chaos, and don’t hire people in that environment.
So, back to your investments. How are THEY doing? Mine aren’t doing well. The money I saved during the 50 years I worked is disappearing. Just two days, and an 8% – 9% loss my of life savings. And for most people with 401ks or other investments, an 8-9% loss of their life savings as well. So just answer the question: how did your investments do, Thursday and Friday?
Trump is playing poker. A bunch of countries just reduced their tariffs or eliminated it. We’ll see how things go by June because it will take some time for this to sort out. But as I have been saying the standard of living in the US may drop to 1/3 of what it is now. So do you think lowering this even to 0% will flood the Vietnamese market with US made garments? So how would this bring these garment shop jobs back to the US?. If his goal truely was to bring these jobs back to the US he needs to charge high tariffs independent what tariff Vietnam charges. He also needs to show US manufactureres that these tariffs are here to stay so that they invest in US manufcaturing. Of course the net effect on the consumer will be that these garments now cost $25 instead of $10 but if the consumer is prepared to pay this tax that is fine.

Your teeth gnashing tantrum is the very similar to what the Dems said when Reagan was Pres and Greenspan ran the Fed. “The economy will crater. He’ll start WW3. The world will hate us.”
We had 20+ years of prosperity because of Reagan and his policies.
Maybe you want to revist Reagan’s views on free trade and tariffs. Because you cannot credit Reagan for US prosperity and at the same time think that Trump’s trade policies will bring future prosperity.
My point is not the specific mechanism that each used. It’s that the Sky is Falling crowd was very loud for Reagan, and they were very wrong. Their volume was at 11 (Spinal Tap reference) for Trump’s whole first term, and they were wrong. Now they’re (you’re) repeating the process.
Will it work? Maybe, maybe not. We will see. It took Greenspan 4+ years of pain to fix the mess that Johnson and Nixon made and that Carter made worse. Is Trump on the right path to reduce the tariff inequity and bring back jobs? I think so, although that chart that he pulled out of his sphincter last Wed was complete BS and surprised the world. Too much, too fast.
As far as your investments go, you have a few options. Leave everything alone and wait for it to come back. Reposition your investments into some things that have come down to more reasonable levels. Or you can back up your doom and gloom posts by shorting and making a boatload on the way down. I think the bottom was put in last Fri and I started buying back in yesterday.
