THIS EVENT IS TONIGHT
With several recent incidents occurring at the Martinez Refining Company (MRC) impacting the community and causing concern – the City of Martinez is hosting a Town Hall on Monday, Dec.19 at 6:00 p.m. to provide information about the incidents and take questions and comments from the community.
In addition to participation from Martinez Mayor Brianne Zorn and District 5 County Supervisor Federal Glover – several local government agencies and MRC will be attending.
There will be additional opportunities for the community to be heard over time, but the City wants to facilitate communication early in the investigatory process of recent events so that the interests of Martinez and our neighboring communities are well represented and protected.

All adoo about nothing IMHO! Nobody was injured or will suffer injury. Just a bunch of Grandstanding by local nobodys.
Transparency and public accountability is what keeps these problems from escalating and people getting hurt.

And every interaction I’ve had with the refinery has been positive because they are great & responsible neighbors.
Great and positive neighbors…that don’t alert anyone after a major incident?
In case you missed the meeting…due to heavy metal contaminants in the spent catalyst: water quality is in doubt, soil quality is in doubt and certain health issues may be exaberated.
Since the acquisition by MRC I’ve noticed there have been more incidents. I chalk this up to lack of documentation or lack of following the existing documentation. There are a number of contractors working there since the acquisition which may contribute to these recent incidents. Forced retirement of senior staff and hiring cheaper labor has consequences.
