Hundreds Still Without Power In Pleasant Hill, Walnut Creek Two Days After Wind, Rain Storm

Hundreds of people are still without power in Walnut Creek and Pleasant Hill, two days after the wind and rain took out several trees and power lines across Contra Costa County.

The two largest outages are between Oak Park Blvd. and Boyd Rd. in Pleasant Hill, and in Walnut Creek, along La Casa Via.

PG&E says most power should be restored by 11:59 tonight.

If PG&E can spare a few managers, who haven’t been out of the office in years, they should travel to each outage site looking for common failure modes. That way perhaps employees could be trained to spot problems before they cause outages.

Alphabet approach to maintenance, “P” for preventive instead of “C” for crisis.

I agree, but then you have PG&E, who wanted to cut a lot of trees down which could be problems in Walnut. Creek, vs. the Tree Huggers who didn’t want them cut down. I believe the Tree Huggers won. I sincerely hope they’re the ones still waiting for the power to come back on.

After sitting for hours in the dark with a run down cell phone battery, perhaps they’ll “see the light“.

I noticed around here that PG&E replaced some huge transformers on poles with smaller ones sometimes two to a pole. That probably helps with replacement. I believe they had to get the big ones out of China. We can blame globalism and outsourcing on this.

A friend in San Mateo says they’ve been told power should be back on by tomorrow evening.

.
PGE customers who have been without power for this extended time period can apply for an “inconvenience” credit on their bill.
.
They can also file a claim for spoiled food products.
.
Go for it.
