as of 06/02:

1,506 confirmed cases (CCC) with 37 deaths = 2.46% death rate.

chuckie the troll June 2, 2020 - 1:19 PM - 1:19 PM

You need to factor in the people who have/had the virus and were asymptomatic. Death rate is probably .2%, with a large majority over age 70.

Carpe June 2, 2020 - 1:27 PM - 1:27 PM

Just throwing that number out there with no context is done with a certain purpose in mind: to sow fear. Well not only is this abhorrent, it’s frankly pretty dumb.

Here’s some context: 60% of deaths in CCC are people over 80, 73% are people over 70, and I’m willing to bet a good number contracted the virus nosocomially…a key takeaway from this CONTEXT being we know who should be protected in a heightened manner, and not, say, sent back into a nursing home if they have the virus. Gosh, who would EVER do something so reckless and idiotic? I wonder…

Further in CCC, people under age 70 comprise 87% of cases with 6 deaths, which even ignoring any preexisting conditions these people may have had, meaning those under 70 who contract the virus have 99.93% survival rate. So another takeaway from these FACTS and CONTEXT is that people under 70 are at minimal risk.

And if we dig just a little more, people under 20 in CCC comprise just 9% of cases and ZERO POINT ZERO PERCENT of deaths, the takeaway being it is BEYOND RIDICULOUS we’re shutting down schools, sports, and other kid activities.

Don’t bother. Kauai Mike has an agenda from which he will not stray.

Me June 3, 2020 - 7:27 AM - 7:27 AM

Chuckie you forgot to factor in the people who have died that were never tested. Love when people just come up with numbers out of thin air.

kg of Concord June 2, 2020 - 12:01 PM - 12:01 PM

It is the people from Antifa creating the trouble during peaceful demonstrations, look them up on wikipedia.

Bad Nombre June 2, 2020 - 12:13 PM - 12:13 PM

Largest jump in 10 days. Protesting bad for your health?

The Observer June 2, 2020 - 12:14 PM - 12:14 PM

Concord sure took a big jump, up 16 cases. Of course, the County also reported a big jump in tests conducted.

WC Resident June 2, 2020 - 1:32 PM - 1:32 PM

It’s also possible there was more testing in specific cities. The overall jump for the county was 2.6% over yesterday’s total. Had testing been even across all cities, and the growth of COVID-19 also even, we would expect to see each city to increase by 2.6% compared to yesterday’s number for that city.

Concord increased by 11.3%

Richmond, though it increased by 9 cases which seems like a lot, increased by 2.9% which is close to the average for the county.

None of the other cities stood out.

Thus, either there was much more testing of Concord residents or there is an outbreak in that city. The health department will know which it is as they also know the number of tests by city per day.

The Fearless Spectator June 2, 2020 - 12:15 PM - 12:15 PM

Perhaps civil unrest has slowed down the quantity of daily testing.

CJRN June 2, 2020 - 12:19 PM - 12:19 PM

Will be interesting to see if we have a measurable spike in cases in two weeks.

Martinezmike June 2, 2020 - 12:27 PM - 12:27 PM

Even the slow are starting to realize that this pandemic is a worldwide false alarm. Now all that’s left is the true believers, and the power addicted. What the media does best is lie.

Aunt Barbara June 2, 2020 - 12:54 PM - 12:54 PM

at least the media has something else to focus on now to drives us all nuts with their fear mongering!

Hey, I thought today was the day Anna Roth and Dr. Frantano were to release the long overdue, and anticipated county guidelines to SIP. At least they should follow thru on their teaser of a few days ago.

BORbeliever June 2, 2020 - 1:54 PM - 1:54 PM

Yes, today they were supposed to give us “good news”…aka a treat for being good children. I wonder if recent events (masses of people out at protests) have made them realize everyone has moved on from SIP?

Rapidrate June 2, 2020 - 12:59 PM - 12:59 PM

If the clayton police department isn’t even stopping the looters, what is the point of the curfew?

Carpe June 2, 2020 - 1:35 PM - 1:35 PM

Hey, you can’t use logic and question authority, just shutup and OBEY. And don’t you DARE try to sit at that park picnic table, or bring a CHAIR to the beach! However, if you really want some new Jordans, or some Lululemon, perhaps an iPad, then by all means feel free to smash store windows and loot as much as you like, why, our local PD’s will actually give you an escort, and if you shame them enough they might even kneel for you!!!

chuckie the troll June 2, 2020 - 1:16 PM - 1:16 PM

Anna Roth and D. Frantano need to provide us with an honest accounting of the cost of fighting coronavirus. And by this I mean:

How many people have actually been diagnosed since SIP started? At least 1400 by my calculations.
How many people and what percent who have cancer have stopped their treatment during SIP?
How many people should have been diagnosed with high blood pressure, coronary heart disease, diabetes since SIP? How many were actually made?

This “cure” is worse than the disease and the public, for the most part, recognizes that fact. Protect people in nursing homes and assisted-care facilities from Gavin Newsom’s idea to pay $1,000/a day to house people infected with the virus in those facilities and give us back our freedom.

NativeEyes June 2, 2020 - 1:44 PM - 1:44 PM

The public health response is exactly what it should be, and it is saving lives, comments like your and thinking like yours would surely not only give us freedom but ASLO death. If you need a case study as to the dangers of not SIPing, just look at the 1918 flu and the effects of ignoring social distancing.

Concordjete June 2, 2020 - 2:02 PM - 2:02 PM

We are gonna see the spike from the looters/rioters/protestors
We will also see spike from the new order by the state between employers and residents at the homeCare.

San Luis O Bispo only two new cases still total of 234 cases just one dealth
Santa Barbara 1450 cases and 13 dealths

My SIPPING Routine.

What happened to the Easter and Mother’s Day spikes?

What is it that compels you to share your daily routine? Are you using Claycord as your diary?

Janus June 2, 2020 - 7:08 PM - 7:08 PM

@ Concordjete

Ahh thanks for sharing?!? I see you did not list a bowel movement. Eating enough roughage?

Mongoose June 2, 2020 - 2:18 PM - 2:18 PM

What happened over 100 years ago is irrelevant. No freedom is death, just at a slower pace. Unless you live in Nazi CA. The ‘Public Health Response’ has been a large dose of fear with few reliable facts. Six weeks ago wearing a mask was useless and unnecessary…now it is required and possibly a cause for arrest.

Bill Bob June 2, 2020 - 2:36 PM - 2:36 PM

Do you enjoy writing stuff like this

Snickerdad June 2, 2020 - 4:25 PM - 4:25 PM

I see we’ve had another person raise from the dead.
Yesterday we had 38 death today we only have 37.
This also happened last month.

Rollo Tomasi June 2, 2020 - 5:22 PM - 5:22 PM

Maybe they decided that some infected person hit by a bus wasn’t a COVID related death.

Snickerdad June 2, 2020 - 6:36 PM - 6:36 PM

Rollo, You got that right on target
We really don’t know how mean people have died of c19.

WC Resident June 3, 2020 - 10:22 AM - 10:22 AM

Here in CC county we know it’s 37 deaths from COVID-19. As the medical systems were never close to being overwhelmed in this area people have had time to test every person where the circumstances point to that COVID-19 may be the cause. The odds are very low that there is even a single death in Contra Costa county caused by COVID-19 that we do not know about.

The 38th death on 5/31/2020 that was then retracted looks like a data correction. I did not loose any sleep over it.
