Aren’t a scooter pie and a moon pie pretty much the same?

CLAYCORD.com January 6, 2023 - 7:28 PM - 7:28 PM

S – Gotta go with C, Yuk. Not a big fan of moon pies. Now give me an It’s-It any day!

Cowellian January 6, 2023 - 8:32 PM - 8:32 PM

I do like Moon Pies, but I would love being able to get an It’s-It!

Roz January 7, 2023 - 6:40 AM - 6:40 AM

@COWELLIAN ~
You can get It’s-It if you order them online from the company here in California.
A Friend had moved to Virgina and couldn’t find them.
I ordered a case, and it was sent to her on dry ice.
You can even get them in other flavors … 🙂

Thanks, Roz,
I’ll check it out.

Well Folks January 7, 2023 - 8:55 AM - 8:55 AM

Cowellian,
I found banana mini Moon Pies one day at Big Lots. Didn’t taste like they did when we were kids.

Private Snafu January 6, 2023 - 8:53 PM - 8:53 PM

Marshmallow filling, graham crackers & chocolate. Pretty much the same, just different brands. Loved them as a child but haven’t had one since. Are they still around?

Cyn January 6, 2023 - 8:17 PM - 8:17 PM

@S
I’ll take A, but agree with CLAYCORD.COM about the It’s-It. Congrats on being 1st for the first “Whatever” in 2023. (Sorry, Cowellian)

Back when, we were a ScooterPie family. I don’t know if that was because they were cheaper or if it was a regional thing.
.
But these days “C”; just not my thing.

Speaking of regional…. I know Scoot & Moon where diff companies…. but I always liked things such as: McCormick in the East & Schilling in the West. Here is a neat link:

Hello Claycord! I missed you. What’s the deal with all the expired registration stickers I see every time I’m stopped at a light? Am I the only chumperooni renewing my registration? Are cops allowed to stop based only on expired tags? Why pay registration of we don’t have to?? (I pay/ renew just because I’m law-abiding in general).

CLAYCORD.com January 6, 2023 - 8:09 PM - 8:09 PM

Hey Paranoid Pablito! Nice to hear from you. Agree – There are A LOT of expired registration stickers out there. That’s definitely something I’ve noticed, too.

Hope you’ve been well.

Mayor

anon January 7, 2023 - 2:17 PM - 2:17 PM

Sometimes the registration stickers are stolen from vehicles and it only looks like it’s expired when it’s not.

Roz January 6, 2023 - 8:30 PM - 8:30 PM

@ PARANOID PABLITO ~
Also, State of California law, a FRONT & back license plate for your vehicle, or you can be fined $200.
Here’s the kicker … about 70% of Tesla cars do not ‘wear’ one on the front.
I noticed this about 6 months ago since there are so many Tesla cars on the road now days.

Simonpure January 6, 2023 - 9:25 PM - 9:25 PM

I have coworkers that purchased Tesla’s and they actually had to pay for the front bracket to mount their plate. They do not even mounting holes and the fiberglass was weak. Not a fan. Seems a bit odd considering the laws of this Constraintafornia that they could even get away from that. Thumbs down!

Givengold January 6, 2023 - 10:00 PM - 10:00 PM

My Tesla came with the front mount in the frunk.

Givengold January 7, 2023 - 10:54 PM - 10:54 PM

They are now issuing Vinyl sticker license plates so the the front of the car doesn’t need to be drilled.

Exit 12A January 7, 2023 - 2:02 PM - 2:02 PM

My Porsche doesn’t have a front plate bracket nor is the bumper cover drilled for one from the manufacturer.

By law, a vehicle need not be modified by the owner in order for it to comply with the law… it should be fully compliant when driven off the lot.

However, I keep the front plate in the car and will just show it to the officer if stopped.

S January 7, 2023 - 2:23 PM - 2:23 PM

Can you cite that CA law? I’d like to be sure….
Thanks

jjshawk January 8, 2023 - 9:08 PM - 9:08 PM

Good thing there’s a sticker option; otherwise, I’d rather pay the fines. No way am I drilling holes in a perfectly clean front end. I’ve owned my car 24 years, never have I been pulled over for not having a front license plate.

Hanne Jeppesen January 6, 2023 - 10:50 PM - 10:50 PM

Just because someone drives with an expired sticker does not mean they have not been fined. I guess eventually their car will be impounded, but I think that takes awhile. Years ago when I had an older Honda it wouldn’t pass the smog test so I couldn’t renew my registration. It took me some time to buy a new car, and I got stopped a couple of times, and got fined, I was going to have the problem with the smog fixed, but then there were trouble with the transmission, so I decided to not put anymore money into that car.

jjshawk January 8, 2023 - 9:18 PM - 9:18 PM

Stolen “tags” and “plates” are (have been) a common problem. People are not going stop living their lives, they’ll get replacements when they have time. The book should be thrown at the A-holes who are caught in possession of stolen tags/plates.

@Martinezmike – Coming up next week. 🙂

Well Folks January 7, 2023 - 8:59 AM - 8:59 AM

Still digging out and not they are talking torrential rain Monday, Tues and Wed. Flooding will be the word in the Washoe and Carson Valleys.
And dang the monthly wine walk was cancelled due to sheets of ice on sidewalks downtown. Guess nobody wanted to see tipsy ice skating, But seriously , I agree with the DBA, better safe than sorry

Fed Up January 7, 2023 - 11:50 AM - 11:50 AM

I still resent that I have to show documents to get a REAL ID. Those are basically the same documents I had to show to get my First DL, except now the DMV gives License’s W/O those documents, so I have to show mine TWICE.
Why not Grandfather everyone who got a License before the DMV lowered the standards? Makes too much sense?

Doremi January 8, 2023 - 8:50 AM - 8:50 AM

I agree!

Original G January 7, 2023 - 11:57 AM - 11:57 AM

Went to big box orange store in Concord. Finally got a parking space, walked into 16 deep waiting for a human to scan their purchases and 10 deep waiting to expend their labor for free at self checkout.
.
Turned around and drove the extra distance to Lowes. Ample number of humans to scan purchases.
.
Have to wonder about direction from corporate HQ at the orange big box. Small parking lot to start with, so why would local management not want to facilitate quick checkout that would maximize rapid turn over of parking spots which would increase store profits ! ! !
.
Evidently corporate over sight of stores is little to nonexistent.

Toflas Kerr January 8, 2023 - 11:11 AM - 11:11 AM

That big box orange store in concord is the worst branch. I drive the extra miles to the martinez branch where it is better stocked, better employees, better parking, and a 2 min walk to Sam Walton’s ***mart store in case i need to get a burger at the golden arches located inside the store. Also, adjacent to a newer stripmall with a $Tree, P***Exprs, St**bux.

Original G January 8, 2023 - 2:26 PM - 2:26 PM

Toflas Kerr, … Thank You so much for suggestion. Few extra miles were well worth the time, leisurely drive over store not crowded was in and out in minutes. From now on won’t bother with Concord store.

Contra Costa Health asked the County DA to bring charges against Martinez Refining because of their flaring incident which contained traces of heavy metals.

Will anyone file charges against EBMUD who discharged millions of gallons of untreated sewage into SF Bay due to the recent storms?

Seems to me that untreated sewage is more detrimental to humans and the environment than the two flaring incidents.

Or is EBMUD untouchable because it is a quasi-public utility and special district?

Does anyone care? Will anyone be held accountable?

Are some agencies more equal than others?

This is your food for thought…

What happened to the Thumbs up / down feature?

2

Hanne Jeppesen January 8, 2023 - 10:24 AM - 10:24 AM

What happened to the thumbs up and thumps down? Not sure I liked it, sometimes it was nice to approve of a comment without having to write anything, especially if you agreed with everything written. However, it also seemed it was misused. I got thumbs down when I wrote I didn’t like pumpkin pie, or anything pumpkin, and I noticed others got thumbs down even when it didn’t make sense. Seemed like some people just clicked on thumbs down to be contrear. And of course when I got thumbs up on my comments I liked that, last sentences is somewhat tongue in cheeck. Anyone else have a comment on this?

Dr. Jellyfinger January 8, 2023 - 11:37 AM - 11:37 AM

@ Hanne ….. Sometimes a thumbs down just means you struck a nerve, maybe pointed out the faulty logic or downright stupidity of the post you responded to, so smile. As for your pumpkin comment, the pumpkin spice mania and all those assorted products are yuck & get a thumbs down…. but pumpkin pie is incredibly delicious and anyone who does not like it is either un-American or from a different planet (JMHO). If I get any thumbs down for this comment I will smile because I know I’m right and it only means more pie for me.

Hanne Jeppesen January 8, 2023 - 1:35 PM - 1:35 PM

No the thumbs up or down button is back. Earlier today it was nowhere in sight.

I assume your comment about not liking pumpkin pie is un American is tongue in cheek. My dad grew pumpkins, and my mother would pickle them, I just don’t care for the taste of anything pumpkin, no pumpkin bread or latte, etc. When I lived in Denmark pie was not really a thing, not the way American thinks of pies. However, I love pecan pie, apple pie, hamburgers and hot dogs. So don’t call me un American, (last sentence tongue in cheek). I make a great pecan pie, and eggnog mousse pie.

Gittyup January 8, 2023 - 8:01 PM - 8:01 PM

@Hanne Earlier, I also noticed the Thumbs Up and Thumbs Down icons were missing from the Comment Sections. I thought perhaps the Mayor had decided to drop them from the Comment Section altogether, but I see they are back. They are probably like other features of website construction. You can add them if you want them, or move things around to customize the site. I thought it looked like the Mayor had dropped them. Sometimes you can hit the wrong button and drop a feature you intended to keep. Then you have to backtrack to figure out what you did wrong in order to put it back the way you want it. Tricky!

Dr. Jellyfinger January 9, 2023 - 8:12 AM - 8:12 AM

Actually the origins of hamburgers and hotdogs (frankfurters) is Germany and apple pie was England. Pumpkin pie and pecan pie are USA creations. No, I don’t truly believe people who have dislikes for wonderful foods are really from other planets… but I’m not ruling it out…. pickled pumpkin?

Hanne Jeppesen January 9, 2023 - 10:21 AM - 10:21 AM

In Denmark we are big on pickled condiments, pickled beets, pickled cucumbers, all kinds and yes pickled pumpkins. All is eaten with a hot meal or add to our open faced sandwishces. Yes, of course hot dogs is from Germany. Hot dogs are big in Denmark, all over you find mobile carts selling hot dogs, but the taste much different than an American hot dogs, most is made with pork, we do add ketchup and mustard, Danish ketchup taste more of tomatoes than American, we also add remoulade and cold fried onions. When my exhusband was in Denmark with me he wanted to try to import the fried onions to the US, he thought they would be a big seller. My exhusband was from Madison Wisconsin and Bratwurst cooked in beer was his favorite meal, which I guess also have German origions.

Retail theft is NOT a victimless crime: prices go up, quality-of-life goes down, criminal acts beget other criminal acts, businesses leave, etc.

Right on que… a couple of duck hunters had to be rescued from Frank’s Tract about 9:00 this morning when they wound up in the water.
